  1. Good job John. I bet you have smelt Pine Fresh all week. Can you tell Mark Knopfler he still owes me the royalties for 'Romeo and Juliet' which I kindly penned for him back in the '70's? The TW may not have liked the heat. We had a 150 play up like mad a few years ago working hard in an orchard in massive heat. Possible? Cool fell buddy.
  2. I received a call from someone last week, totally out the blue. He was interested in a link I put up about a recent forestry death (don't know how he got my number?). Had a good chat with him, and ultimately came to the conclusion that every fatal/very serious incident is basically news-blocked until after an inquest/HSE report, which is invariably months later and unreported. I am not a ghoul, but the real facts should be made available to other forestry/arb folks as soon as possible IMO. If we can save one life or injury through swift passage of correct info, not gossip, it would be worth it. Stay safe fellas.
  3. How do you kill a circus? Go for the juggler......
  4. Great work lads. Leaving nesting birds is a PITA, but it separates the pro teams from the knuckledraggers. And it is a legal requirement. I'm sure your client is more than happy Simon, and will probably talk about/recommend you and your lads more because of halting at this point, even if they pre-empted the decision. Joe, you need a haircut. Stop spending all your wages on Budweiser, pizza and johnnies!....
  5. Prussik is the same with everyone. VT needs a bit more tuning. 3 and 2 works for me, 4 and 3 is Franks choice. You need to play about a bit with your rope/hitchcord/weight/climbing style/over-under wraps till you sort it, which is why quite a few try it, have a scary moment, then bin it. Personally I wouldn't go back to a Prussik, but that's because I was prepared to put a bit of effort into sussing out the VT. I firmly believe that all new climbers should start on a Prussik, because it is so bulletproof and you can get yourself down in almost any situation using a Prussik (made of your bootlace if need be).
  6. Great vid Brendon, and great pics Mario. Keep 'em coming boys, or I'll post some pics of us Brits topping conifers with our t-shirt tans and white legs....
  7. Ady, I did see it. I just thought that was how you rolled.....
  8. Where is the felling point in relation to the last shot Simon? That is a big tree! Hope the log wood is finding a good home. I can PM you the postcode for my yard if you like.....?
  9. Great pics mate. What's the plan?
  10. Great shape Q. Was the initial shape due to storm damage? Henley way?
  11. Thanks for putting up Arbtalks most honest thread, mate. I'll have a think and try and remember if I have ever done anything wrong....
  12. Firm have admitted I may have been given back a different set of blades (not their fault, other depot may have accidentally mixed them up). They are arguing the toss as how to compensate me. They were sharpened well, mind. 36 minutes to fill the Transit yesterday, and I mean stupidly fill. No road involved, tipping on the other side of a paddock. Would asking for Cheryl Coles mobile number be claiming too much for compensation?
  13. Thanks lads. I reckon the depot that did the sharpening sent the wrong set back to my local depot. Will call in and see them today.
  14. Great thread and pics Steve. As already said, Cedar wood is renowned for repelling moths. I have a few Cedar wood coat hangers. Can you spare a few chips for Frank to keep in his wallet?
  15. Rupes work was spot on, and the tree looks great. In a year or two it will look how it did before he got there. My 'pointless' comment was from a trees/customers point of view, not an arbs with a mortgage to pay. At least half my work is 'pointless'. I still do it, but I think recognising the fact that trees don't ask us to reduce them deserves some thought.
  16. That would fly, surely. Need a mid saw this year, will be between these two or a 361. Good to have an unbiased opinion Tom. Cheers for putting that up.
  17. No BA, they both clearly have complete chains.....
  18. £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
  19. Take a picture from the same point in exactly a year from now and post it, Rupe. I fully appreciate that the tree had been worked on before, which is exactly why it was so dense. Nice work, but that Birch would be less prone to any type of failure if it had never been touched.
  20. Pic is of two blades (different sets) I received with my new TW125 last year. Whilst chipping was still OK with the first set, the chip quality began to suffer, so I rotated the blades at around 13hours. I have just had the first set re-ground (hollow) by a local well respected firm, who were initially going to flat grind them. The re-ground blade is on the right. They were no more worn than the second set I have just taken out, on the left. Have I got grounds to ask them for a new set of blades? They seem to have taken off about 6 sharpens worth in one hit! Both blades are the same, and neither was excessively damaged or worn, as I am pretty anal about running sharp blades to lessen stress on my cracking little machine. Any comments appreciated.
  21. Big tree Steve, and looks like a righteous call judging by those wounds. As said, gave the O2O a rest! Shame, mind. Is there a replant in the pipeline?
  22. The hinge doesn't bother me Ady. The salopettes, however......
  23. Utterly pointless. No offence Rupe.
