  1. I would say on more traditional hitches 8mm cord on 13mm rope would probably be too grippy.
  2. Remember there are a huge amount of combos of cord/rope/climbing style/climbers weight etc. Well worth having a play in your own time and getting it set right. Like Matty, I leave mine on my rope once I'm happy with it.
  3. Great find Martyn. I thought I was the nuts 'cos I can do a roly-poly after a few beers.
  4. Cracking area. Are the midges bad yet?
  5. Awesome book. One weird thing, he keeps on about Steve Sillet suffering from vertigo. This is the bloke who free-climbed a 70-footer, leapt across to the lower limb of a Redwood, then free-climbed to 300 feet plus. If that is vertigo, where can I get some?
  6. You'd be better off sticking this up in the employment forum mate. Good luck with it.
  7. Mmmmmmm. I was thinking exactly the same.....
  8. Cheers Moz. That's pretty much what I had in mind. With an 88 running a 4 footer in each hand and a couple of days growth on my chin, I should easily be able to strip 10 foot off with each pass.
  9. Will do. Bloke is keen. He was on at 7.45 this morning asking if I could do it or not. I told him I had come up with some great ideas! Mesterh, I intend setting the ivy on fire just before abseiling. I always work better under pressure.
  10. Thanks for all your input fellas. I'll let you know how it goes.
  11. Like that one as well mate. Cheers lads. Now I'll probably lose out to someone who will 'do it for the ivy'!
  12. Robert is looking favourite to earn a pint at the minute! Stevie, the top garden has no trees and no vehicle access, so ground anchor it must be. Mind you, I could get Plippy to stand in the middle of the lawn for a day.....
  13. Tommy, normal double rope off a saver on a VT. Like the saver on the work side of the wall idea Rich. May suspend the saver on a wire cable that runs over the wall? Problem is the cliff extends about 60 feet horizontally, so whatever is protecting my rope needs to be fairly mobile. This will (hopefully) be a one-off, so I can't be spending loads on specialist rope access gear that will end up in my shed with my gravity boots, EZ-curl bar, vibrating ab-belt, Sinclair C5 etc....
  14. Need your help here fellas. Been asked to de-ivy a (small) cliff face, which I can do using a ground anchor in the garden at the top and abseiling down the face. Problem is, my rope would be routed over a double skin brick wall. What can I do to get round the problem? MEWP access is not feasible here due to a variety of reasons. Thanks
  15. Same dilemma here. Love my old 440 for everyday (ab)use, but it's not going to last forever. Going for the 441, but unsure about the new self-tuning model. (CM?) Has anyone used one yet?
  16. Feelin' ya pain bro. Hit internal wire ringing up the first butt with mine. Must be the law, I reckon. I find my 660 tip-heavy running a 36", so have switched to a 25", with the big bar kept in the truck for the odd beast.
  17. Old Snake is the man to talk to mate. I know Rich Rule had some issues with splices in AP, so his input would help you as well. They charge £350 each to respond to a PM, I believe.
  18. Big stick that, mate. Nice one.
  19. 2 Ibuki 390's strapped diagonally across my back Ninja style. I get some funny looks in the Post Office, mind. Although thinking about it, that may be the hood...
  20. You can't fool me Johnny Boy. That's your new house, isn't it? Nice try!
  21. Jeepster, you would be better off spending the money on some kind of sickness benefit cover, as long as it is one that would actually cough up if you couldn't work for a while. It's not all milk and honey out there mate. There will be plenty of days, in the winter especially, when you earn nothing. Is it not worth having a chat with your current company about a pay rise before you take the plunge? Good luck with it, anyway.
  22. Total waste of money for you to have your own insurance IMO Rich, the companies you freelance for have EL, job done.
  23. I have mentioned to a couple of pubs that they have hazardous trees in their beer gardens. Heave in one, ustilinia in another. They have just looked at me like I am trying to get them to give me their cash. Which I am, I suppose.
