  1. Thanks troll spiel. I have been treading on eggshells since I've been back on Arbtalk as I've had my ups and downs in the past. I love a straight talker and, to me, its good to have one around again in yourself. But there is a line mate, I guess only you can know where that is. It'll be fun finding it though aye:sneaky2:
  2. Two more for you Adam. My lot from Annapurna Conservation Project and me getting zapped. Taken at Dudh Pochari approx 5000 metres. No equipment whatsoever, I had to borrow the fleece and we had no tents. We slept with shepherds in their huts to the snow line then froze after that. How do I get myself into these situations:001_smile:
  3. Right chaps here's where I'm up to: This one just for you Adam:001_smile: - Select photo in iphoto - Copy and paste to desktop - Go advanced on arbtalk - Manage attachments - Choose file from 'desktop' in Finder and Upload - Preview post and there she is. I can live with this, quite straightforward really:001_cool: Sorry to harp on about this by the way:blushing:
  4. Well done Flaming Ace... Choice!!! Brilliant!!!
  5. I've found how to do it, which is what Rich said plus a bit. After its uploaded I have to click on the attachment staple again and it gives a drop down with the image jpeg number. If I click on that it then attaches to the post. Been bugging me all day this has. I still have to export the image from iPhoto to finder first to do this though so a further explanation of how to do it direct from iPhoto would be appreciated.
  6. Just did a test with this pic in my uploading pics thread. The reason I wanted to post it here is to make the point that I believe that making things is a journey to see what you have inside you. You won't find out what you have inside you unless you make things. I like where you are in your journey. This candlestick is part of mine
  7. No worries mate. I just tried a combination of Rich and Paul's advice and it ended up uploading the whole lot so I had to crash the whole thing. I am getting there though. I went to India in 99 it was, not 2001 , and started out looking at NGO's with the Schumacher institute in Lucknow, then moved to Nepal and got in with the Annapurna Conservation Area Project. Ended up with quite an adventure in the remote high Himalayas with the Gurcha tribes. Quite off any trekking routes then upwards to about 6000 metres I think on a hindu pilgrimage to Dudh Pockhari which is a glacial lake and quite high up. If I can get a bit more selective about finding pictures I want to post I'll stick a few more up at some point and that will remind me a bit of the story behind it. It was quite an epic adventure that one.
  8. Hi Adam Thanks. Yeah taken in Bhujung Nepal in about 2001. Since I got the macbook I've scanned in a lot of my old photos so this is a scanned in print. Going thru the big list in finder you get a little preview image so I knew which picture I was posting. Just don't want to go through 7000 little preview images every time.
  9. Cheers Rich...... BUT... If I go to Finder and click on pictures it appears as one long list of 7000 photos. If I go to iPhoto, everythings organised in 'events' and 'albums'. Thats why I initially tried to take a photo from iPhoto stick it in finder then upload it from there. This has worked but I had to go thru the 7000photo long list so its a bit random and It would take a long time to find the photo I want. It is however a start in the right direction
  10. Right while its not raining I'm going to go make some stakes for sorting out me mams rasberries so chainsaw on a sunny bank holiday weekend = not popular with neighbours. I'll just do about 4 for safety. Please feel free to resolve this mystery in my absence:thumbup1:
  11. Thanks for the tip but I'm trying to do it without storing stuff online. I have an aversion to all my stuff being somewhere like iCloud, flicker etc. I'm also not on Facebook so a bit of a dinosaur in this stuff as well as in tree work. Paul's post says it's possible straight from iPhoto so I'll bide me time till I can figure how to do that. Thanks anyway, unless I have misunderstood what Photobucket is which is always a possibility:001_smile:
  12. Oops didn't mean to stir it up again mate. I mean't I am that stereotype and was being lighthearted and mischievous
  13. Thanks for the advice Paul but I'm still a bit stuck. If I click on the image in iPhoto so its got the yellow surrounding box. Am I then clicking 'image attach' back in arbtalk or still in iPhoto. I can't find an 'image attach' in the menu bar of iPhoto and arbtalk isn't spotting the image I've highlighted from 'attachments' or from 'insert image' Can't quite follow the instructions mate, I'm sure its me being a bit thick:001_smile: Could you do a real dumb version please if you have the time:blushing:
  14. When I had a PC I could attach images from 'my documents' Now I have a macbook so I'm moving an image from iPhoto to Finder then trying to attach it. It isn't working. If I 'go advanced' and click on the attach image icon, it asks for the URL of the image. My pics are not out there online on Flicker or anything like that so they don't have a URL as far as I know. Any help on how to upload pics from a macbook appreciated.
  15. :thumbup1:I love happy endings....... Now.... about what was said about us yoghurt weaving, vegy hippies........
  16. Have a look at 'paving expert.com' Loads of good advice and specs of how to do stuff in hard landscaping. It is a fantastic resource for someone in your position.
  17. Skyhuck has given years of service to this forum, earning his place as a moderator through reasoned, mature informed and measured debate and opinion. I am mortified at the way he is being spoken to. Can we please give this a bit of thought. Never mind who's right and wrong here. This is not right!
  18. I know I kinda started this with my question about pesticide residues, but we are talking about Steves' vegy patch here aren't we?
  19. Fair enough mate. At least my asking and your answering will also clear that one up for anyone else who wondered the same thing. So all is kept nice and positive in your thread:thumbup1:
  20. Your link is interesting as it explains that the sterilising process can be done with steam 'pasteurised' so no chemicals added there. This is only part of the story though as sterilising only deals with killing the weed seed and bugs component. It doesn't remove pesticide residues which is my main concern. You are still correct in saying 'it depends where you get it from' as presumably you can ask them if they have used pesticides. So careful sourcing could be the answer.
  21. The paragraph below is cut and pasted from wickipedia. Interestingly the same google search turned up an article from the Royal Hort Soc where spent mushroom compost is recommended for growing veg with no mention of any concerns over pesticide residues. "Mushroom compost may also contain pesticide residues, particularly organochlorides used against the fungus gnat...... Chemicals may also have been used to treat the straw, and also to sterilize the compost. Therefore, the organic gardener must be careful regarding the sourcing of mushroom compost; if in doubt, samples can be analyzed for contamination – in the UK, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is able to advise regarding this issue".
  22. My dad has started using mushroom compost on the recommendation of a friend. I have been concerned that it may contain pesticide/herbicide residues and would make the veg grown in it bioaccumulate said residues. I would be interested in peoples views on this as it is a concern of mine based only on brief research on the internet so I am not sure if my concerns are justified or not
