  5. Hey Tommy!...Big fan of ya work....i,m a climbing arborist.have been for about 14 years now...that,s my 9 to 5,but my free time is spent photographing arboricultural works, interesting trees etc...my reason for this message other than admiring your fine work is that after 3 years working in London i am now back in my hometown of Durham City, and noticed you are in co. durham...i am also a woodcarver..but only in Yew and with a single chisel...just curious to know what part of Durham are you based and if you have a workshop.....all the best Paul.

  6. i used one a while back and i have to agree with chrisb, they are difficult to manouvere.so best towed with a 7.5...however we were taking down a load of big willows and it pulled whole leaders in no problem and we filled a large Marston trailer time and time again very quickly!
  7. I have always found Arbtalk very informative and very entertaining..you couldn,t ask for a better Arb site!...although ther are members from around the globe on her,it has a Very British feel to it.....quality!...i have just posted a message regarding the Jersey job,but after hearing Brodie,s tale i,m going to look closer to home...My work here in London ended after a two year stint and i would be grateful on any adviceor leads as a well qualified climbing arborist, but looking to team lead?groundie for the summer....all the best Mr C!....Paul
  8. regarding the position of lead arborist..my name is paul and i gained my n.p.t.c "blue book"in 1997 having achieved all my relevant c.s units climbing, ariel rescue, chainsaw use from a rope and harness, felling, crosscutting etc..since then i have worked in all areas of arboriculture throughout the country and for a while in Holland. In 2006 i did a refresher course on all of my climbing and chainsaw tickets..for the last two years i have been a climbing arborist in London. In the last six months i have been looking for a chance to work in the team management, team leader side of arboriculture..i have been involved in every aspect of arb since college and now feel i would like to furthur my skills.
  9. quality tutorial as usual......cool as a cucumber.....you are a legend!
  10. i,m from Durham City!...still get there every once in a while.i went to houghal college in 1995...and been a climbing arborist ever since......i was in reading for a year....yorkshire dales before that and i,ve been here in central london for nearly two years....i love it!!..where do you work sonia(is that your name?........).....i,m paul.

  11. only one option.....top it.......done!
  12. great film Gord!..cliff felling was superb viewing this easter holiday morning!...and the suspense, waiting for the tree with the cavity to fall set me up perfectly for my full english breakfast!...i spend most of my tme up big plane trees in London city so it,s great to see forest work and the awsome scenery around you..
  13. anchord in you,ll be stuck to that tree like glue
  14. weaver mate...it,s a big man,s saddle...second skin....you aint going nowhere!
  15. pollards...you either love em,or you hate em....we are required to carry out re pollards on london planes in and around central london...these photos show a block of about sixty planes in chiswick..we have about 300 left to do...we call them bread and butter trees...our lead climber has been pollading planes for about ten years and can produce a clean pollard in about 40 minutes(longer for a very big one.london planes are already some of londons biggest street trees and we re pollard every three years...an arb officer attends site often to ensure growth is removed down to the knuckles and never further,,,this creates a neat crown away from houses and allow light to the street.....love em or hate em they are a way of maintaining this kind of street tree.....imo
  16. informative as usual reg
  17. albert coudn,t wait to try the top handled version
  18. a long time....it was a rotten stump i found whilst walking in weardale by a quarry in stanhope..wobbled it out of the ground..took it home, jammed it between my feet took a chisel and carved it...........about ten hours to complete over a week.then fine sanded it and just beeswax..
  19. we had been deadwooding in "nonsuch park" near kingston-upon thames all week..last job, this old piece of deadwood....although it had slight growth in it,s crown, asked to bring it down to a safe height. hollow from tip to toe and next to a woodland walk. full of intersting swirls and cavities.it must have been a fine tree during it,s life. left a tall trunk for insects, birds etc... and kept a branch for carving.
