  4. check this bad boy out!!! [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fiB9N2nTimE[/ame]
  5. there is that i suppose but if the hairspray keeps it running well and the spanners in the tool chest then so live the hairspray!! i know my hilux has been more reliable than any of the defenders i have owned
  6. hey the shiny chrome is better looking than rust, or white alloy corrosion around every bolt or rivet
  7. they tested that on mythbusters on the discovery channel, proved it wouldn't happen because of air bag position in the car, mind u i suppose every car manufacturer is different and there is always a possibility
  8. fuel wood have a 2nd hand japa pto driven processor for sale at moment. adevertised on plant trader website
  9. why do landy lovers also love chequer plate? is it to cover holes in bodywork?
  10. sell you a lovely little trailer for the back of the caterham!! 2 car seats bolted in and the kids can come to track days too
  11. alasdair, shop around for insurance as you can get some great deals, nfu were great to insure my defender but ridiculously expensive for my hilux even when it was standard. i looked around for insurance and got a really good commercial policy that included my trailer for £350. im only 24 so for my age its not that bad.
  12. there is that but when you find yourself spending evenings and weekends repairing the thing you ask yourself if its worth it. 2 years ago i brought a 2001 hilux with 100k miles on the clock and for £3200 since then done 30 odd thousand miles and spent nothing on it. either towing a 16ft ifor or the chipper round daily and not once has it failed mechanically. never ever had that reliability with land rovers. whilst travelling in australia i did 6 months working in a 4x4 centre preparing vehicles for overland trips thru the outback. the fitters always told me if you wanna go see the bush go buy a landie, if you wanna come home again buy a hilux, land cruiser or patrol
  13. perhaps its coz ur not repairing it on their driveway!
  14. i have owned a few defenders and my family has had nearly every model since the series 2 and found i spent more time keeping up with oil leaks and brake/ clutch seals on the landie than i did driving it. what with getting wet when it rains and everything being seized and rusty (except for the bits oil has leaked on). 3k will buy you a very poor defender. look for chassis and bulkhead rot. the first turbo engines were prone to the cylinder head cracking, later models had problems with the gearbox bearings failing. japanese trucks are much better value for the same money
  15. i looked into supplying chip for a domestic market as i was unsure my supply of timber would be sufficient to supply commercial or industrial applications but found even with woodfuel being pushed and pushed as an alternative fuel people ie domestic werent interested. courses are being run locally for people interested in supplying chip, selling the boilers and even members of public who potentailly gonna invest but found course numbers were small even when well advertised. more suppliers than clients
  16. fred dibnah would be so proud of you ed
  17. not that it will make u feel any better but i had enought timber to fill half a football field a meter high stolen. they hiabed the lot in entire lengths over the fence last christmas, 40 ft lengths of ash gone in one. nothing was cut as there was no saw dust and gate was still locked.
  18. sorry to hear that mate, how bloody unlucky, wish her a speedy recovery and all the best
  19. aint we all mate, nowt to do this time of year

  20. had a customer the other day trying to cut some fencing up with an electric jigsaw, after smelling smoke and lots of noise i turned round to see him using a metal hacksaw blade in it and he was burning his way through:scared1: lent him my cordless circular saw and he was thru in seconds!!
  21. kingswood training who advertise on here do the grant funded training for ex service men and they are based down in kent. click on their banner or advert and you will find all the relevant information on their website
  22. does it do it when your on the gas or free wheeling? most common fault would be worn selector fork behind the left hand crank case cover. where you heading in oz? i lived out there for a year and a half working my way round
