  1. Nah, not really, Kier Starmer isn't great is he? Obviously better than the previous three incumbents, but that's not exactly difficult. Ken Dodd's dad's dead dog could've done a better job than that trio. Don't think it matters what pictures he hangs on the wall though, that's doesn't bother me. As long as he doesn't spend hundreds of thousands of pounds of our tax money on flat refurbishments, fancy wall paper or some such nonsense. Bringing it back to POTUS anyway. At least our political system is not as fcked as the American version, that's something to be thankful for at least. It's not quite all about money here.
  2. Maybe they do Halloween better there over in Ireland. It looks and sounds more community spirited than what we get here. Kids roaming round the streets begging/threatening for sweets, clad head-to-toe in plastic crap doesn't have the same feel as the old bonfire parties I remember as a child. And I'm not even going into the pumpkin aspect! The Grinch is early this year!
  3. Loving that contraption!
  4. Down to the 6th this evening. Wordle 1,231 6/6 ⬜⬜⬜🟨⬜ ⬜🟩⬜🟨🟨 🟨🟩⬜🟨⬜ ⬜🟩⬜🟩🟩 ⬜🟩⬜🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  5. What does everyone do these days then? How many bother? We always try and do something. I'm just out to buy a large cake type jobby from Aldi. To take to a mates house next weekend. I can't be arsed with a selection box where you're fiddling around for hours individually lighting piddly little crappy things. Organised public displays don't seem that good these days. Impressive fireworks but they're generally far too locked down and sanitised by H&S. On the small chance that they actually have a fire, you probably can't get within a 100 yards of it, certainly not close enough to feel any heat. Plenty of fireworks kicking off round here this evening already. They could equally be for Diwali or the yankee abomination that is Halloween though. The latter seems to be overshadowing Guy Fawkes night more and more every year. It's shite!
  6. The Trumpian System? Maybe, pending the outcome of the big day next week.
  7. Me too. I can apply more torque with it than a standard drill driver, and in a more controlled fashion than an impact driver. Tool of choice for tapping Birch trees for sap wine too, due to lighter weight. (Followiing in my grandfather's footsteps many years ago).
  8. They should've got a real bike, E-bikes are for Pussies!
  9. Not pottering as this was very much planned, but my turn for some clockwork. A children's, (or maybe Dad's more likely), clock kit. It's a triumph of plywood engineering, all laser cut. Amazingly intricate. I guess it's Birch ply. It's even got an adjustable pendulum, made up from lots of little constituent parts. It's challenging with a mega impatient 5 year old but we're making good steady progress.
  10. Yes! Wordle 1,230 3/6 ⬜⬜🟨🟨⬜ ⬜🟨🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Speed Wordle again too, been a while since I've done one of them.
  11. They're having a rough time of it in Spain. Cars strewn around like Dinky Toys Spain floods: Nation mourns as death toll soars past 150 WWW.BBC.CO.UK At least 158 people have died in Spain's worst flooding disaster in decades as rescuers race to find victims.

  15. Dunno, he didn't mention that. I guess he'd of said that'd be a good exception too.

  17. That, plus never borrow money, except for a mortgage.
  18. To WD, or not to WD, that is the question.
  19. I wasn't paying much attention to the old budget earlier but I did catch a couple of points that sounded sensible. Something about trying to claw back some of the millions of pounds of our money stolen by the Boris cronies during the "covid farce cash bonanza". (That was more taking advantage of PPE procument and Track and Testing though, rather than pharmaceuticals). Also, an increase on private jet tax.
  20. I'll stick my neck out and say that the government shouldn't be handing out anti-fat drugs at all, except for severe medical cases. I don't imagine they're cheap, certainly not on the scale proposed. Much better to hand out free education courses on cookery and nutrition. (maybe a condition of benefit receipt?), for those afflicted. Paid for by taxing the hell out of ultra processed food type stuff. Don't suppose it'll happen though, most politicians are far too removed from reality.
  21. I think it's not so much the metals that are the problem, it's more the plastics and composite materials that are difficult/impossible to recycle. Same is the case with wind turbines blades.

  23. Well, that's an interesting little insight into the world of Bonsai. Who knew that they were so mollycoddled? Trips out to get Restyled and trips out to get Groomed! Whatever next. I remember seeing that guy on Gardener's World a few weeks back.

Someone's been to a Japanese vending machine.
  25. Yes, and yes sadly. It'd be a good idea to bring the supposed 1 million empty homes back into use as well. This lot;- Action on Empty Homes WWW.ACTIONONEMPTYHOMES.ORG A much better idea, for a few reasons, than keep throwing up crappy, useless new builds on precious green land. Can't see that happening either though, on account of there being less profit in it.
