  2. Real meat today.
  3. Good bump. I must dig this out for my lad again, it's a lovely little book.
  4. I'm no expert on global energy supply but that doesn't seem to be a prerequisite in this discussion. I'd suggest that the reason that our electric is so expensive in the UK is because we're so reliant on natural gas, mainly from Russia. More expensive than France and Germay, as mentioned in the initial article. In the case of the former because they've had lots of nuclear for ages and in the later because they rapidly developed alternative energy sources when Putin kicked off in Ukraine. We were much less proactive for whatever reason. So, UK electric isn't actually the most expensive in the world because of net zero targets. Quite the opposite I believe in fact. The sooner we move away from NG, and other fossil fuels, and build an energy infrastructure based on domestic renewable sources the better. For all the obvious reasons. If we could even start building some of that infrastructure, rather than letting China sell it all to us, it would do wonders for our flagging manufacturing industry as well. Win win win situation. Oh yeah, not forgetting trying to reduce energy consumption in addition to cleaner sources. Relatively easy things like insulating houses, and reducing unnecessary car journeys. Simples. And absolutely nothing to do with 'fighting age', whatever the hell that's about.

  7. Happy now dude?
  8. Bang on. The advances in medicine over the years have largely been a positive, in terms of length and quality of life obviously. It feels to me though that the flip side is that sometimes now people are being kept alive just for the sake of not being allowed to die. Almost as though as a society we're trying to shy away from death, we're starting to forget that it's an inevitability. (We medicalise death too much these days, that's a phrase I've heard a few times, not sure if that's the same thing.) If the individual wants to keep going for as long as is humanly/medically practical then that's their call. The issue is that that is too often not the case, depending on perceived quality of life mainly I guess. It's all about agency as you say. That and dignity. It's no coincidence that the place in Switzerland is called Dignitas I suppose. It didn't happen thankfully but I think we could easily have slid into a situation where this would have become a very pertinent issue with my Dad. He died of an undiagnosed, and incurable, neurological disease, some kind of autoimmune thing probably. I'll never know for sure but I'm pretty confident that he would have wanted to have choose the time and place where he declared that enough was enough, if it had dragged on too long.

  10. It's hard to put a price on good neighbourly relations, but I'm pretty sure they are worth more than the price of even a decent sized replacement tree. Saying that, it seems that ship has already sailed, given this outrageous, shitty thing that the neighbour has done to your tree, on your property. To say nothing of the butcherery involved. Nasty, angry little man. I'd be seething. What did he say in the way of justification for what he did, out of interest? I can't imagine there's anything that would make sense to most people. I suspect there was some history around this issue of a few leaves from a beautiful tree.
  11. This is a tough one. What are people's thoughts? I feel it's the right thing to do, though it makes me uneasy. Assisted dying bill: This is about shortening death, not ending life, says MP proposing assisted dying bill WWW.BBC.CO.UK The proposed law would allow terminally ill adults in England and Wales to end their own life - but opponents say it could...

  15. That looks good. Does the process actually need much heat I wonder? Traditionally it would've been done outside in the air, so maybe 40 degrees max. I don't have an air fryer, but I do have a dehydrator, goes up about 60Β° I think.
  16. Thought so. Phew, I'm clean then. Very sensible point Gareth. Woe betide anyone with six or whatever it is Though I think lifestyle choices and consumption patterns matter more than the number of offspring.
  17. Exactly what my mum said. Savoy I reckon.
  18. 'Zero kids and even if I were it would be a zero sum ie 1-2." What's that bit about?
  19. Anyone interested in River Basins? I wasn't particularly, until I saw these rather cool pictures.

  21. Where's these pictures then? I've been looking forward to drooling over them all day. I'm inspired to give it a go as there's an air dryer up in the loft that barely ever gets used.
  22. My offering this evening. Bolognese or Ragu type of thing. Don't shoot me for using Quorn rather than real mince!
  23. Nice. I saw on some TV programme once that Chilli was traditionally made with chunks rather than mince.
  24. That looks like a serious bit of kit. Love the eBay description.
  25. Bloody hell, steal. What was the deal, out of date?
