  1. The Stones have got to be one of the best, truly authentic Rock and Rollers. But I agree, they should quit when they're ahead. Interesting appraisals of their latest album. I admit I'd written it off until now, but it sounds like it's worth seeking out.

    Jokes???

I'll see your 22/7 and raise you 355//113
  3. Interesting stuff, thanks. Yes, it goes on to talk about the Devon Shovel in this book. Echoes what you said pretty much. It's my weapon of choice for most kinds of digging/shoveling work, been using one for years. I've got a square ended one as well actually, that's better for some things like moving loose material. Sorry for hijacking this thread somewhat!
  4. By way of a follow up, just in case anyone was waiting with bated breath! I received the new license on Saturday, so under a week from when I applied for it. Everything is present and correct. I'm well impressed. Still got the old one too, though I'll probably just cut it up and bin it now.
  5. This is a funny coincidence, I've just been reading about how they used to repair a Devon Turf Hedge. This looks slightly different to what you've described, maybe just a question of timing. This guy is talking about working in the 1930s, and specifically in the South Hams, South Devon.
  6. And dead sticks. They make up about half of what I see planted on new developments.
  7. Too right. Moby - Go is up there with the best of them.
  8. Gaucho, in Birmingham was pretty damn good. It was a few years back that my missus treated me to a birthday dinner there, the details escape me now, but I remember being blown away. It was mouth wateringly good. What I do remember was the size of the steaks. I've got a healthy appetite so was very reluctant to take the waitresses advice and only order a medium and not a large. She was right, I could barely finish it! And melt in the mouth tender. The fresh sausage for starter was excellent too.
  9. Time to mix it up a bit. The Chemical Brothers. They've never done it for me, not even close. Not exactly sure why. Other dance/electronic outfits from the same epoch like Leftfield, The Orb, The Prodigy and Massive Attack were far better.
  10. Great work. I was doing sourdough for a while, I kept it going for a year or so. It's a nice little project and makes tasty bread. Mine were not as good as your loaves though. I didn't have the stamina in the end, to keep up with the nurturing that the starter needs every couple of days. Also, it doesn't work that well in a bread maker. I've been making my own bread for years, but with a machine for expediency. I just stick to making Kefir a couple times a week and Saurkraut occasionally. Seeing those pictures tempts me back to sourdough though..... ...

    Mince pies

The culinary merits of different insects probably deserves a whole new topic of its own. Not something I've had much experience of, apart from the odd thing here and there out of interest or for a dare.

    Mince pies

Greggs are certainly best for fresh doughnuts. Got to be jam though. Non of that Krispy Kreme muck.
  13. With all due respect to your Sweep; I'm certain that he's wrong! Mineral wool will never burn, if indeed it is mineral wool, as it's essentially just glass fibre. I'm interested in the wider question as I have the same set-up. I've never thought about the issue of heat escaping via the closure plate, but my hunch is that it can't be a lot.

    Mince pies

Just don't buy any stuffing from Tesco's. Unless you're partial to essence of moth. Tesco recalls Christmas stuffing mix because it may contain moths WWW.BBC.CO.UK The UK's largest retailer says a batch of Christmas stuffing may be "unfit for human consumption",

    Cord wood

He was only trying to splash a few squid on some cod wood, and instead he's found himself in an aquarium surrounded by clown fish.

    Mince pies

Yes to the single, double or clotted cream. That's all that's needed and cuts through the sweetness of the mince pies perfectly.

    Mince pies

This might be controversial but we always have a couple of large chickens rather than turkey, (the thighs are ok, but the rest of the vast amount of turkey meat is invariably a bit dry).

    Mince pies

Never really thought much about mince pies, but I can vouch for Aldi's Stollen. An essential element of our Christmas fare, along with a gammon joint for boxing day.
  19. Seems like common sense to me; if an ingredient doesn't sound like food then you probably shouldn't be eating it. It's probably been put in to make or save the food producer money. Fair enough if people want to be veggie/vegan, each to their own, but they'd be far better to eat all natural food, and avoid anything ultra processed, (like whatever Heather Mills' was trying to flog). And accept that it's not going to taste like meat. Because it isn't meat! There's hundreds of different beans and pulses and other protein rich plant stuff to choose from. Heaven forbid it might require some extra time and culinary skills to prepare a meal.
  20. Always stunning to watch them do that. It's all about keeping track of the seven neighbours around you in the flock apparently. Never thought to look it up before. Collectively, however, they transform into something...
