  1. Pole Saws are the future. Why faff around with ropes and stuff when you can just do everything from the comfort of the ground with a Pole Saw? (As long as the requisite work wear of muscle top, jeans and trainers is worn.)
  2. An opinion is just an onion without π
  3. Yes, I was surprised about the effect of adding the rye. It was only a quarter of the total flour and yet turned it into a brick, almost completely surpressed the rise. Tastes good, just very dense. I'll try adding more yeast next time, don't know if that'll help. Edit. More yeast probably won't help much. I just looked it up and it's far more complicated than that. Rye flour has less glutenin, more pentosan carbs, and more amylase enzymes. I'm not pretending to understand the ramifications of any of that!
  4. On the other hand it knocks out a fifth of the contender letters in one fell swoop. There's always a bright side. 😉

  6. Ummm, interesting. I'd not considered my old nemesis, Grey Tree Rats. They would fit with what I've seen; isolated branches, Sycamores. I need to stop sometime and have a proper, closer look.
  7. So. Driving around recently I've been noticing lots of trees with brown, dead looking leaves. A certain bright brown/orange colour, they look crispy, almost like they've been burnt. Not complete trees, just portions of trees, at the top or thereabouts. Maybe just a few branches affected. It seems to be only small to medium sized trees, not seen any big ones like it. I've not had a chance to stop and investigate yet, as I've always been driving and only been seeing it the last couple of weeks. I'm not even sure which trees it is but some have definitely been Sycamore, plus others with bigger leaves. Anyone else observed anything similar? Any ideas what's going on? In other years I would've guessed heat or drought stress, but that doesn't seem likely this year.
  8. Mornings. It's feeling worryingly autumnal here already this morning.
  9. No idea as to the answer, but I think the Co-op suffers particularly badly from shoplifting. Don't know why. They're normally specifically mentioned in news reports on this issue.
  10. The moral consensus? Common sense would indicate that any ideology that promotes hatred of another group of people is harmful. For example hatred of Women, hatred of Women's right to chose, hatred of Non-Muslims, hatred of Muslims, hatred of Non-Whites, hatred of Immigrants, hatred of Christians, hatred of Transsexuals, hatred of Jews, hatred of Roma.....you get the idea.
  11. Translation of above. "I wouldn't dig it up again, and certainly don't prune the roots. That generally does more harm than good, especially in the wet summer we're having this year. Keep an eye on it, but trust that the tree itself knows pretty well what it's doing. As long as you don't see anything strange in the above-ground parts, I would just leave the underground parts alone."
  12. That was a tall order. Wordle 1,156 6/6 🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜⬜🟨⬜🟩 ⬜🟩⬜⬜🟩 ⬜🟩⬜⬜🟩 ⬜🟩🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  13. Kedgeree dinner. Plus garden greens and beans.
  14. And an inadvertent flat bread. Too much Rye.
  15. No bread made this morning so had to knock up some cheeky flat breads / crumpets for lunch. Kefir for moistness, Dill and Onion seeds for flavour.

  19. Thank goodness for that!

    Jokes???

Or I ate all ("the sum of") the pies.
  21. But she's not wearing Chainsaw Trousers. Outrageous.
  22. If you're planning on moving to NZ soon it'd be easier hold off on buying a saw now, and just get one there instead. (Unless theres a big price differential obvs). It was a good few years ago now, but I did two chainsaw courses, (cs30/31 and cs38/39), at different companies and they both provided decent saws for all attendees. It wasn't even a question. I assumed that was the norm for such courses until now. On the downside, they also provided all PPE I think, including atrocious hot, heavy, cowboy style Chaps! (for the first course) Can you find another training provider who will include the use of their saws?
