  1. That reminds me of this discussion, you never did respond in detail. Ok, so I think all that can be summarised as: Hamas are villains who can't be trusted. I don't disagree. I'd answer both your questions by: yes, I'm aware of what they're up to. They're terrorists. "All I will say for now is the casualty figures for Gaza all come from Hamas so I certainly don’t believe them." - So what would you estimate to be the true figure? For the sake of argument, let's say they've exaggerated the death toll by 100%, (which I'd say is next to impossible given the international scrutiny of the situation). But still, that gives a ratio of ~23:1. That's not proportional. Not to mention the wide scale destruction of buildings and infrastructure. I see the IDF has demolished 1500 more since the ceasefire even. Accepting of the fact that Hamas have provided dodgy evidence of war crimes and genocide. What then about all the other stuff in that report by the UN Commission? Most of it hasn't come from Hamas. As a side thought, consider the resources that are available to Israel when it comes to generating propaganda. They're world leaders in IT, with huge wealth to fund it as well. They've probably got 1000s of people and AI working on propaganda. Compare that with the capabilities of their adversary.
  2. On closer inspection, I think you're right actually. The blocks do look more like coarse chipboard, without the shiny surface of melted lignin. That's a shame. Do you mean smell the formaldehyde before putting on the fire, or during burning? I can't in either case. Though I'm not surprised at the latter as it's in a closed wood burner. What are the products of combustion? Its simple chemical structure suggests not much, but it's been too many years since I've thought about chemistry. One of my jobs as a teenager was to go up on to the roof of a barn that my parents used as a large workshop, multi vehicle garage and general storage place, to clean the numerous sky lights. I had to scrub them with a formaldehyde solution to get rid of the moss and algae that built up. Don't think I'll ever forget the smell. I can smell/taste/feel it now when I think about it. Oh, and the roof was composed of asbestos cement sheets. Nice.

  4. Real wood briquettes are stuck together solely with the inherent Lignin I think, which melts under the high pressures and temperatures involved in the manufacturing process. So there shouldn't be any glue in them at least. I've been burning some of those little cubic pallet separator blocks recently. Hopefully they're made the same way as the briquettes, as I normally use the ash from the wood burner around the garden.
  5. It was a pissed up joy ride by the sounds of it, so I doubt much forethought went into it at all.

  7. I bet this guy had fun. Not much the police could do to stop him other than wait until he got bored, or ran out of diesel. Beware - Hysterical yam yam commentary. 9. Define Leftard please. Is it just Neo-ATLism? The definition seems to be getting wider by the day, it transcends the Left/Right divide now.
  10. As if we need more plastic in our oceans. Same old, same old. Profit before Planet. Profit before People. How do we fix it though? Easy enough to call out the fckups, harder to suggest solutions.
  11. Come on now, be honest. You'd never even heard of the Partition of India until a couple of days ago.
  12. That's ok then, we have nothing to worry about.

  19. Yes a reboil, but only for 30 mins or so, plus a bit more sugar and lemon juice. The dark colour is probably a consequence of me cooking it so long. Also, I had a few Quinces mixed in with the Meddlars. It's tastes nice, that's the main thing.

  22. I'm 49 and I've had a bit of a dodgy back for at least 30 years! I don't remember what year, I was round about 16, but I remember exactly what did it. Helping a bloke I was working for lift a big wood burner out the back of a van. It's never been the same since. Fine most of the time but if I do much prolonged lifting it kicks in with the familiar twinge. I fancy the idea of playing with one of those stones, (a smaller one), but the reality might be somewhat different. No, not seen the hench 14 year old. Got a video to stick up?
  23. Ahh, our old favourite. Love it.
  24. It's becoming apparent that physical strength is as important as cardiovascular fitness, when it comes to ageing well. I'm on the look for a nice lifting stone.
