  2. Squid in Spanish kind of stew.
  3. What flu epidemic was that?
  4. Solomon Browne - BBC Sounds WWW.BBC.CO.UK Forty years on, the dramatic story of the Penlee lifeboat disaster. That was also on the same day. Very moving. It'll obviously resonate more with those who come from the West Country, or other coastal communities. I'm always happy to contribute to the RNLI. They go above and beyond in their sacrifices to others, this story is a tragic example.
  5. Picky! You're right though. I did consider it quite carefully, my first thought was holes and knots as you suggested. That would be a more aesthetically pleasing solution. I discounted it for a couple of reasons;- 1 - Couldn't be bothered. 2 - I was concerned about losing too much weight as the blocks are only just heavy enough as they are. I stuck some of that grippy foam underneath to add friction to help.
  6. Door stops. Sycamore and Spruce, (I think, it looked like an escaped Christmas Tree. Completely dead.)
  7. Yeah, I've heard that story a few times too. Grim.
  8. Agreed, it is relaxing to listen to. There's a whole host of people out there who listen to it to go to sleep apparently. Regards lighthouses. I've also been fascinated by them and their keepers. It's the romantic idea of it though, the grim reality would be just that I think, grim. I don't mind my own company but I wouldn't be able to handle the loneliness of it for long. They changed it from having just one lone guy to three blokes at some stage. That would raise a whole new set of issues though obviously.
  9. Any fans of the Shipping Forecast out there? This is an interesting listen. One of a whole day of programs about it on Radio 4 on Wednesday. The Shipping Forecast: A Beginner's Guide - BBC Sounds WWW.BBC.CO.UK Paddy O'Connell guides us through the history and meaning of 'The Ships'.

    Jokes???

Sorry Doug, I can't believe I was so thoughtless, should have been more aware of your trauma! I'll try to avoid all tape measure jokes in future as well.

  13. Sound proofing is about the shape, topology of the surfaces as well as materials used as far as I've seen. For instance, Richer Sounds listening rooms are lined with a layer of foam, the surface of which is formed into pyramid shapes, a couple of inches big. Also, I've seen or heard, (the irony!) somewhere that egg boxes in large quantities can be used to similar effect.
  14. What was in that trail mix exactly? Think I can see peanuts and wasabi peas. What were those little fishies, dried/salted?
  15. I would, as would anyone surely. Not wishing to get into a wanky philosophy debate but I think this might be a case of "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence". Especially in the case of an intelligent animal that doesn't want to be found so will be naturally elusive. I'm not 100% in the believer camp, as I've never seen anything irrefutable with my own eyes, but I'm certainly closer than I used to be after one experience. I hesitate to mention this as it's nowhere near hard evidence, but two of us once saw two large shapes in the dusk in a wood that were (unmistakably??) feline and large. But, the mind is a funny thing. I think deep down I want it to be true so my perception might have been tailored to fit that. What was your story?
  16. I can't claim any credit, I nicked it from Squaredy, (who disclosed it towards the start of this thread I think). I used to use AMINE, that's not quite as good though.
  17. In alignment with the consensus, they're buggered, might as well cut them down now while it's still easy to do so and they've still got some firewood value to the timber. As an alternative to stump grinding and replanting straight away, you could just leave things alone after removing the trees. Birch are prodigious self seeders, (weed tree status sometimes), and self sown plants and trees normally grow stronger and faster in my experience. You'd probably have enough seedlings to chose from so that at least a few popped up in a suitable location.
  18. I do, AUDIO. As much as I love VULVA, it's not as efficient! Maybe it's just because my brain cells are being jammed up with numbers; I've started doing Sudoku as well recently. Or maybe I'm just shit at the moment.
  19. Me too. For a month or six or even 12 maybe. After that though I'd want some other stuff like history/culture, soft green landscapes, heat, etc etc. (That said I have next to no knowledge of Greenland).

    Jokes???

Anyone would think you've got a thing about 73" mate! Better stuck in your mind than stuck somewhere else though I guess.
  21. Wordle 1,293 X/6 ⬜⬜⬜⬜🟨 ⬜🟨⬜🟨⬜ 🟨🟨⬜🟨⬜ ⬜🟩🟩⬜🟩 🟨🟩🟩⬜🟩 ⬜🟩🟩🟩🟩 Chose the wrong one. Don't think I've ever had such a shit run of results as this last couple of weeks.
