  1. £2k +£2 per cubic meter produced over the lifetime of the machine
  2. Not pretty, but cheap and looks quite effective for yard handling on softer ground. Loader/Forklift on eBay (end time 10-Jan-11 21:29:09 GMT)
  3. Hakki Pilke 1X-37 Tractor PTO Firewood Processor on eBay (end time 21-Jan-11 10:01:06 GMT) Eight and a half grand, or you can wait until next season and get a good second hand one locally..........
  4. Thanks Michael C formerly know as Sitemaster, Raffle Sponsor 2008
  5. I was thinking of converting one of our Transit tipper to a mini-skip loader to load and unload 1m3 bags of logs. Truck could carry two and unload one at a time. (can anyone make this youtube video work?) <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6SD38dlnKA?fs=1&hl=nb_NO"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6SD38dlnKA?fs=1&hl=nb_NO" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  6. Castration over Coppicing - hmmmm an interesting concept.
  7. I note MrAngry doesn't agree, he has felt more heat from a packet of Victory V's.....:lol:
  8. but this isn't (150 cubic centimeters?)
  9. Well, they are the ones doing the hard graft......... Perhaps if you divulge which area you are from, Greengrafter, you may get more responses, depending on who your local competition is, of course... I would say to you guys that there is no point in you starting to produce logs, the guys who have already invested time, money and energy into their firewood enterprises can take up any demand you identify. This forum would be a great place to let them know of any tips or enquiries you may have.
  10. Arran roads are particularly rough on our vehicles, that's why I am interested in the stronger chassis of the Iveco. We have to change road springs regularly on all our vehicles anyway...................
  11. I am seeing a few of these for sale just now, 2007 models, must be some council somwhere changing-out their fleet. Does anyone have any experience of the IVECO 35C12 2.3 HPI? Are they a worth-while alternative to the Transit and are there any particular known faults with the model? We are looking to change-out our Transit tippers and are considering a couple of these Ivecos as replacements. Crew Cabs & normal cabs seem to be going for £7k to £7.5k + VAT.
  12. Stevie, Give Duncan a phone and he'll tell you his experiences of log customers consumptions on Arran.
  13. We ( Arran Woodfuels :: Supplying Wood Biomass fuel from Arran’s sustainable forests, woodfuel, scotland, woodfuels, arran, woodfuel cluster, wood, chips, pellets, alternative energy, Energy Services Company, ESCo, biomass cluster, biomass, brash sm can supply bulker loads of seasoned split logs (under 30% MC), or even seasoned timber in 5m lengths from the Island of Arran. If this is of interest let me know and I'll work out the price.
  14. I really miss the Newcastle ferry to my home in Stavanger. I now have to take the fast ferry from Kristiansand to Hirtsals (Denmark), then drive down to Esbjerg to catch the ferry from there to Harwich. Or you just take a plane and pay the excess baggage.......
  15. Can thoroughly recommend the Hakki Pilke 1X37. Our machine works solidly and spares are quickly obtained.
  16. Neither does a £1,000 Transit for that matter £10,000 telehander? What's wrong with a £3,500 David Brown 990 with loader. If you are serious about starting on a tight budget, forget about image and cool machinery, that comes later......
  17. I would process your logs in batches, deliver the immediate orders and bag the rest of the days production in vented bags. I would consider getting an old transit tipper for the same money as an Ifor, which will safely carry 2 m3 fairly flat and stable. Put a divider across the center of the load if you want to tip off individual 1 m3 loads at a time. Transit is nippy and easy to reverse into tight driveways. I would buy one years supply of timber in advance and have it stacked in your yard. After the first year, it is cyclic and you'll always have seasoned roundwood available to process. Don't worry if you have too much timber, you can adjust next years advance order according to current stocks. Don't don't don't don't don't ever deliver wet logs. Your business depends on your reputation and quality of product.
  18. It's a no-brainer in my opinion, especially in the firewood business, get yourself VAT registered. You can claim back 17.5% on your purchases, but only have to add 5% on to your sales. And as mentioned above, the public are used to paying VAT on everything. A bit different for the guys selling services, then they have to charge 17.5%, but again, you will still be better off VAT registered.
  19. Did I forget to mention the 9p per kWh of heat produced? Let me put it another way: say 25 kW burner = 25*24*365* 9p = £19,710.00, then say it only operates at full capacity at 20% of the time (averaged over the year) = £4,000. You are paid this to heat your own home. You can install it this year and start claiming next year when the scheme starts. Are you still sure you really, really want a log boiler now????
  20. You might want to consider dropping the idea of claiming for a grant to install a wood burner. Why? Because in April 2011 the Government will (hopefully) launch the new Renewable Energy Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme. Under this scheme you get nothing towards the initial capital expenditure, but you will get 9p for every kWh of heat produced, for the next 15 years!! However, watch out, as log boilers might not qualify. You might need to consider a woodchip boiler instead.
  21. Why don't you go back there today without your harness & spikes?
  22. I just knew you couldn't pass Ardkinglas without stopping and visiting the old girl, Stevie...... :laugh1:
