  1. The nearest I can see in the UK is the Posch Packfix palleting system. Jas P Wilson have an ex-demo machine for sale. However I have seen elsewhere in this forum a great idea using a pallet and some ryloc net fencing. Just as effective and a good deal cheaper. Can any clever forumers find the link?
  2. It's not "win-win all round" for those poor souls who have to listen to your base guitar playing.
  3. This is how the Norwegian farmers store and dry their logs. Note they also say in Norway that seasoned wood means less than 20% MC. Remember, during the winter these stacks are covered in a few feet of snow.......
  4. I measured almost 20cm snow today.......
  5. I spend 75% of my time in Stavanger and 25% in Scotland (island of Arran). http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=stavanger+map&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=uk&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&resnum=1&ct=image
  6. Here in Norway, there is just usually one serious fall of snow every year. Comes usually during December and melts around end of March Everyone has studded tyres and the schools don't close........
  7. Yeah.... that new Megane has loads of useful extras......
  8. Here is a 65E on E-Bay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/bandit-65E-6-chipper-diesel-lombardini-motor_W0QQitemZ370145896840QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_BOI_FarmingEquipment_RL?hash=item370145896840&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A3%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
  9. Not for you Carver, that's for sassanaichs. Teuchters should go here: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Rural/SRDP/RuralPriorities/HowItWorks
  10. Reading through this thread, Marko, I think the message from some is that this is not a popular concept. It might be a better idea for you to consider developing a "Firewood Sellers Guide". This could contain all the information you obtain on moisture content, best practices, customer engagement, etc. and offer a set of guidlines for firewood producers. This might help reduce the number of "rouge traders" who are apparently mis-selling small loads of wet wood, and avoid confusing new customers who, basically, just want to heat their homes.
  11. A lot of what you ask about would depend where you are abroad (Norway or Namibia?) To plant trees now for firewood harvesting, no problem if you have 20 years to wait. Doubt if you could clear £8,000 pa (in the UK) with even 12 acres of dense, mature woodland. Have you thought about rearing pigs instead?
  12. Well, you know, we are working with Sitka Spruce roundwood, and I assume that seasons quicker than the hardwoods others here are handling. But, on the other hand, the West Coast of Scotland does have a higher average rainfall than most parts of the UK.......
  13. Most of our customers don't have space to store large piles of wood for long periods. They prefer to get delivery of a product today, that can be used on the fire tonight. This is a legacy of the society we live in today. We tell our customers that we will take care of the 18 month seasoning and stacking and they just need to order when they are ready, just the same as coal, oil, lpg, etc. We guarantee to have supplies of seasoned wood ready for immediate delivery. This service seperates us from the local competition, and I believe is the way firewood should be sold nowadays. But as I mentioned earlier, this is the situation in our area, and not neccessarily the situation in other areas around the country.
  14. We work with a cheap-and-cheerfull set-up. Inexpensive 6.cyl 100hp MF, Farma 3-pt linkage crane and standard twin-axle farm tipping trailer. We can also mount the chipper onto the crane/tractor. Very flexible, and most importantly - low investment and "fit for purpose". (costs a fraction of a roofmounted Botex )
  15. Quite, and probably a small fortune to buy one in the first place
  16. Since my guys saw this they haven't stopped pestering me for one similar (and they want the Mog)...... Do they think money grows on trees? (on second thoughts, that's a dumb question on this particular forum )
  17. With Cranes, Be quick, only 50 left.......... http://army-uk.com/equip.php?ID=412
  18. Sorry to sound a bit negative here, Marko... But I find this a bit depressing and sounding like "beware all firewood suppliers are out to cheat you". I would rather speak to any new potential customers and present our products in a positive and encouraging mode. Explain how logs will save them money and save the planet. Show them how big our loads are and let them have a couple of logs to try out. No need to frighten them off with worries over moisture content and short loads. And as for comparing prices with other areas, well I would definately not go there. But then we are in a rural area and customers tend to know us already and our reputation, so I'm in no way talking for everyone here.....
  19. Starting to collect a few for the cracker (at the far end of the pile).
  20. Here is a forest for sale near Fort William, 365 acres @ £175,000 = £480 per acre. http://www.westcoastpropertyguide.co.uk/index.php?post_id=1096 Not quite the same type of woodland, but illustrates the point that the value of property varies considerably,,,,,,,,,
  21. Aye, he's a bit of a blether, but a sound chap all the same. (I've been inspired by Burns this weekend)
  22. My team and I had a pleasant (albeit cold) visit to Shreks yard and were well impressed with his demonstration of the woodcracker. Great machine with lots of potential, we are looking out a pile of trunks and hopefully will get the cracker across soon to sort it out. Thanks again, Stevie.......
  23. Haven't got a shed on wheels, how about stables on wheels?
  24. Steve,

I am suffering a problem when I try to access the forum.

I type in the usual http://www.arbtalk.co.uk to my browser, see the first page briefly before the browser flicks onto page " http://www.arbtalk.co.uk/profile.php?do=dst " and an error message saying this page cannot be found.

After about 10 attempts the browser stops at the first page and everything is fine.
