  1. yeah, i do agree with saving mature trees, but this one was too far gone to save for long-double wire braced, large branches hanging on tears, car park, high volume of pedestrians, listed wall. . . personally i would have pollarded it.

start again, think of future generations :)

  7. yeah its the root balls thats best for gun makers-and a few feet above ground, as the grain in the rootballs swirls about and looks pretty:001_tongue: wish i had a walnut gun stock! split woods about that down here too, but the couple of wood turners i know, i give wood to for a favour in return basis, including buttering up the girlfriends old man:001_smile:
  8. when we cut down 2 large burr elms, the wood merchant wouldnt even take 3 trunks, 2 inc root balls of 10ftx2-3ftdia of walnut for free something to do with the russians flooding the market (this was 18month ago) wood turners would be best bet
  9. practice! i wouldnt worry about redirects for now, just keep your weight in your rope, lean far foward(in direction of branch) have one hand releasing your rope, the other infront of you, grabbing branches, the branch for stability. if you get to a point where youre nerves are going, just think whats the worst that could happen? - a slip? a swing into the tree with a little bump? oh and use a friction saver-nothing worse than having a tight rope! just takes time really, soon you'll be running along!
  10. i know that tree dont i?! its about time that came down after it was well and truely hacked!

  20. having replaced a 395 husky + 25inch bar, for a MS660+30inch bar, i find that the stihl is much much better, even with a bigger bar than the husky, fantastic to use, feels alot comfier than the husky did, somehow more user friendly. diddnt order it with heated handles, which would have been nice at the mo!

  22. theyre alright, alot better than hiflex so far (5months old atm) alot tougher wearing, i too found them a bit tight for the size, but after a few weeks they loosen up nicely. prefer them to hiflex, but will look at what else theres around when its time for new ones
  23. yeah i know i only need one hitch cord, but seeing as theres alot of diffrent opinions as to which is best, im going to try a few of the most popular (OP liros, AP, roblion ect(sp)) see what works best for me! at not much coin each, figure its worth it
  24. cheers matt, think im going to go for the scorch, based on what your experiences are, sounds simmilar to what i like, feels nice, and the fact i dont like the look of arbormaster! (looks ARE everything!) and just get half dozen diffrent hitch cordage, and see what i like best
