  2. You cant really get an arb specific one, you just need to do one for the substances you use. So if you use round-up then you need the data sheet for round up and compile a coshh statement based on that. So, petrol, diesel, red diesel, chain oil, two stroke oil and then whatever else you need. Coshh forms are avaialable on the AA website with a prefilled one for diesel to show how its done, then get the data sheets for the stuff you need and fill in the rest. Should only take a few days or so!

    Fuel Strike

    They only donate to the labour government/party dont they? I think the present government might end up having the last laugh here, everyone has bought fuel and continue to do so, if and when a strike happens no one will care cos everyone has plenty! If its true that the majority of people only put one third in their tanks at a time then then the other 2/3 are now full so everyone is ok. The strike will mean nothing and will probably be called off. Also, the drivers who threatened the strike are now having to work flat out (the very thing they were complaining about in the first place) to refill all the stations, ha, ha, serves em right, stop winging about the fact that you are employed!

It rarely need much real tension, a really good pull by a decent groundie would do it, then go back on itself and tie it off as a cow hitch (or part cow hitch without the better half hitch) and then no need to hold on so tight. Or an opposing half hitch, or whatever you fancy, no need to get clever with it.
  5. We all did that for a while, seemed like a good idea!! Not sure how old that video is, they might not still be doing it that way, but then again it is france so up to them really!
  6. Yes, thats my point, like srt when coming in off branch walks so 1m slack=1m movement, but then you still have the 2:1 available at any time, as long as the double pulley didnt get in the way of Ddrt method, which it probably would TBH !
  7. Dont think I have? (got any pics that is) Only ever done it in silly awkard places with small dropzones, most often its next to rivers were you just dont want stuff to bounce into the water. DId it once next to a busy traffic lighted intersection so constantly had cars stopping 6 feet away and couldnt risk anything getting that far from the trunk. (was all barriered off of course but the VSL was extra safety, as a bouncy log might knock over the barriers into the cars.

I dont think they made it that way (i,e, complicated) I think that is how climbing has evolved in france, its standard parctice in a lot of areas and maybe its only down to the internet and forums etc that they are moving towards the same systems as us. I went to the Euro Comp in Nantes in 2006 and they had the french nationals on the day before at the same venue (different trees) 90% of the climbers used this system and it was great to watch. I believe I am right in saying though that the top 3 climbers who then went on to the ETCC the next day were using normal Ddrt, so that suggests the latter is better although it just might be that those better climbers have been exposed to other methods and chosen Ddrt?
  10. I phoned honey brother today to order some, and when they realised it was me they said "size large?" Cheeky!!! In fact I take a medium but would need large in hyflex in order to fit my massively powerful thighs in! So yes, they must be a looser fit in the legs at least.
  11. I wonder if you could have a double pulley under then to slack tend both at the same time for coming in off a branch walk.
  12. Yes definatly!! Once you have worked one of the prussiks to the end of the rope you can then carry on Ddrt as normal with only one tail but to start with the are in the middle of the rope with two tail ends and you can then use either the left or right handed prussiks, its genuis and madness but both of my psychiatrists say they are the same thing!
  13. I love the way you guys do it in france, with two prussiks on an extendable bridge, and then just set off working with one of the prussiks and shorter bridge, genius!
  14. In my old local pub chugging was something you did want to see! It involved beer and agricultural students with their pants down! Anyway, how can you practice rigging without actually rigging? If your new to rigging and just want to practice then any old bit of climbing rope will do, doesnt need to be a bull rope or specific rigging line. Just use it well within its limits, 100kgs is actually quite alot for practing, thats a whole 15stone person! Keep it much smaller.
  15. I was having a cheeky fun poke at the sueing you bit, and it was for endangering my life by allowing me to climb in the first place without the need for an actual accident. My point being that non CE stuff is clearly extremely dangerous!!!! But if we have all signed the waiver agreeing to not hold you liable then it doesnt matter about CE anyway, if its all legit we cant sue you and if its not CE (but is lolered) then we cant sue you either? Not much point in it being lolered then either? I am not trying to make it hard for you, and you know I support the 3ATC comps, but my rope is perfectly suitable for use in your comps and everyone has enjoyed the video, so its a bit late to be suggesting its not suitable, and probably too late to be telling honey brothers and others that the rope they have been selling for a couple of years now is not CE rated. Can we all have our money back please! My actual opinion, and point, is that pre climb inspection by a loler qualified person should suffice, and non CE kit that has been bought in the states or down under (there isnt anylikely hood of it coming from anywhere else) which is recognised by at least one of the inspectors as being fit for purpose and then passed fit in terms of wear and tear, for that indiviudal to use on that day at a non work climbing comp, would seem better than CE everything and loler certificates for those who dont work in the tree industry in this country. (especially as they sign waivers aswell) In fact my actual point and first question was about having to produce a CS38, but you side tracked me!
  16. Nick, Do you really think I went to the states to buy a rope? From Honey Brothers website............ Yale Cordage have redesigned the Poison Ivy/Poison Hi-vy rope so that it meets the CE type A standard for ropes. The redesign was very specific and in the end, had very little effect on the outstanding performance of these ropes. The Poison Ivy/Poison Hi-vy ropes we stock are specifically for CE markets. They are not availalbe for sale in the US. The yellow tracer in our Poison Ivy and Poison Hi-vy ropes is unique to the CE Type A approved version of this rope. The yellow tracer is clearly visible in our pictures. The Poison Ivy and Poison Hi-vy sold in the US does not have this tracer nor does it meet the CE Type A standard. Climbers familiar with the Poison Ivy/Poison Hi-vy rope might wonder about this yellow tracer. End. My rope also passed inspection from your appointed inspectors so it was obviously ok, or else I would have had to sue you for allowing me to climb on something that is clealry lethal cos it hasnt got a CE thingy and therefore could have snapped at any minute. I think its all gone a bit silly, we should be welcoming our foreign visitors and just checking their gear prior to the events for wear and tear, not looking to see if its suitable for sale in Europe which is the only difference a CE mark makes, it doesnt make my poison Ivy any safer than an american Poison Ivy. What about Armor prus cord? Also, I'm climbing on Sherrils Yellow jacket at the moment, hows that going to go down?
  17. If CS38 is a pre requisite for 39, then having 39 proves you have 38, but yes it could be a problem at some point if someone doesnt use that common sense approach.
  18. At the start you said "employed forestry worker" and then you say self employed. later on you say your "employer"? You cant be employed by A company but be self employed! But if you are doing it that way then charge them whatever you like for your vehicle, add £50 to £100 a day to your invoices depending on what actual work the vehicle is doing, if its a landy then its likely to be doing work and not just miles so its part of your equipment, same as saws and any other kit, and its all part of the job being done.

  21. Yes ,you can claim the costs of the vehicle/fuel/ppe etc which means you dont pay tax on those costs. It does not mean that someone gives you the money back. So if you earn 10,000 a year and spend 2000 on work stuff then you pay tax on the difference which is 8000. SO you pay tax on 8000 instead of on 10,000, so happy days, but dont ever be fooled into thinking that someone will give you back what you have spent on PPE or fuel etc.
  22. Nick (radio star!!) can you confirm that NPTC certs are required for entry (not including students) cheers!! (yes I have got mine, did them last week!!)
  23. I think your in a muddle You cant "claim" any money! No one is going to give you 45p a mile, or any money back for PPE boots etc. As said above (sorry only just read it fully) you just dont have to pay tax on these things, so you pay less tax at the end of the year if you claim that you have spent money on fuel and PPE etc. I am more concerned about this "opportunity"? Have you been offered a job but as a self employed person?

    Its interesting that the last strikes (or blockade) happened when the price went over 70p/L. That was not that long ago really and its double now.
