  1. They may well be on the fringes of tree work but they are the world leader in industrial access equipment, unless I'm forgetting someone else? And DMM only make a fraction of their income from arb gear, same as ISC they make their money from those bolts that hold cars onto car transporters, and the screw in towing eyes for cars. So both of those companies could be said to be on the fringes. Tree work has always taken bits of kit from other industries and bolted them altogether to make a system that works. I like the fact that ISC,DMM and Petzl are now making arb specific equipment but before they did make specific gear for arb I bet you owned generic petzl products? A fixe at least?
  2. Were they already working on mk2 ? Or have they just started last week? Who knows for sure, but I would think if there were no issues they would not be working on mk2. Its not their style to bring out new models of the same thing that quickly. I'm guessing they are devasted (maybe not the right word as it implies emotion) about this failure as they genuinly would not have concieved it was possible. They are way too big a company to allow mistakes like this to happen. I wonder how high up the sackings have gone!

    Hi-viz

You can get hi viz kilts as well, ideal for roadside epicormic removal jobs without chainsaws. Just dont be the one holding the ladder.
  4. Did you just blow all the chips under the hedge? Cant really see from pictures, but I would guess you did! I have a similar job tomorrow but chippings all going from site, but easy access so no worries. Do like the idea of a little chipper still though.
  5. So its sounds like you need to get writing your policy statements pretty quick!
  6. Chas or Safe are not courses, they are simply assessments of your H&S stuff. If this client is asking for these documents then clearly you dont need chas or safe (otherwise the client would be hiring a company with either of those things). So all you need to do is send them your risk assesment paperwork and company health and safety policy. You should ideally have these, as your insurance is pretty much worthless without them, if your hiring in self employed people then you need to be covering their H&S needs and your employers liability helps should this go wrong.

    Hi-viz

FTR we use Orange, just to match the chipper and saws etc. Lots of orange on site looks ok, and I dont want to look like we are tarmacing!

    Hi-viz

I followed up with some sense as well!

    Hi-viz

As a basic rule, construction industry favour yellow, Railways favour Orange (I think thye would say orange only on railways)

    Hi-viz

Ones orange and the other is yellow???
  11. Whole bikes are usually a lot cheaper than the sum of their parts.
  12. Well anything will do, as I said before its not about the bikes its about riding a bike, I personally really dont like halfords because they are not there for bikers they are there for shareholders. But the Boardman range is good value, just dont get sucked in by there warranties etc.
  13. No, halfords always has been and always will be utter crap! With the only exception being the boardman full carbon race bikes they do for £999. probably the best specced road bike you can get for that money. My Ridley was same spec as the boardman really, but its RRP was £1600 but I did get 45% off in the wiggle sale so it made it cheaper than the boardman and I refuse to buy a bike from halfords regardless of its value. But of course the real Boardman road bikes, as used by the Brownlee Brothers, retail at around £5k and you cant get them from Halfords! Halfords employ muppets, so they are not going to know much. Carrera is a halfords own brand POS made in china probably.
  14. No. Its owned in part by a private equity company and then two two founding members still own the rest. Probably will get floated on the stock market soon! Revenue close to £100M per year now. Sure, they have a lot to be thankful to wiggins for but also Hoy/Pendleton etc. cycling is a massive growing thing now. Have you noticed that Halfords is now a bike and leisure shop now? Car parts are in the corner somewhere!
  15. Yes, we mustn't forget that the guy who fell managed to generate @4kn somehow! Am I right in saying he was under instruction at the time? On a training course? I'd say there are questions to be answered there as well.
  16. Er!!! No it definately is not! They are lucky to have a name that sounds like wiggins but it's a coincidence !!
  17. Just been for my first lake swim of the year! Bit too cold though still!!
  18. "No point having an expensive bike if you have cheap legs" I think that means put the investment in your legs first!
  19. I dont know much about moisture content? Surely thats water content only? Cypress have a lot of sticky stuff which is not water and needs longer to deteriorate/break down before burning. Sure the water content might be below 25% quite quickly but the other crap will still be in there. Leave it outside for 2-3 years, split and store inside, jobs a good un! Wouldnt have it on my fire mind!
  20. Both those photos taken on the same corner!! Dont get me wrong, I do like new bikes, and that cube is lovely, I just dont like biking to be about the bikes if that makes sense.
  21. No, why would he? If he's finished the cut he may be moving to the next work position. Or he could have chosen not to place a second anchor?
  22. Have you only just finished it?
  23. I think he means on a bike, not running! Hi Ben! re bike shop: Old bikes are cool, dont let them tell you to buy new, in fact try another shop next time. I go to one thats happy to fix up old stuff (although I can do 99% of it myself). Biking shouldnt be elitist, thats one of the things that puts me off. I have bought a modern carbon fibre road bike just to fit in with the triathlon club but they are certainly not an elitist bunch, they are just up for a lot of excersise! I stear away from groups of mountian bikers on full suss machines at £1000's as most of them a just loud and annoying and cant ride a bike unless its got suspension. But having said that I did the local mountain bike trail on a full susser a few weeks ago and beat my best times on every section so I can see the appeal! But old school is still my favorite. Did a 50km off road bike race last weekend on my 21yr old kili racer, and had zero mechanical issues!
  24. Yes, what I meant is wiggle events are not usually done by people raising money. They (wiggle) are definately not a charity!!!
  25. Yep, mayhem is at Gatcome park this year, hopefully a good move from the awful experience at Eastnor castle (only weather, nothing bad happened) I dont want to go there again! So, Arb show at Bathurst on the friday, then mayhem starts at 2pm the following day just down the road at Gatcombe and both are only half hour from my house!!
