  1. Even on a single line, 2 men at 120 kgs each (big units) would only take it above the swl so the rescue would be done, everyone lives and the rope gets chucked due to it exceeding the swl. No harm done, thats why there is a 10:1 safety limit!
  2. Why would you want to do that? If you want to look like you are going to a fancy dress party as a power ranger then get a stein helmet, but if you want to look like you know what you are doing at height then get a petzle helmet and safety glasses!

A gri gri is not designed for use as a s side strop. It does work but is not ideal. A grillion is the the same but without the built in spring and is designed for use as a side strop and is is quite good. The Trango is the best of both worlds, it releases like a grillion but has the sensitivity of a gri gri under load. The trango is the only way forward! Gri gri are better kept for srt use as stated aboeve.

I've just e mailed the contracts manager again. We'll see what happens. He's a bit of a dinosaur so email is not his thing but my original request was appreved straight away, the ISA membership numbers/genuine status and general outdoorsyness was sufficient to qualify but then nothing has actually been done. I'm wondering if paperwork was sent out to Mac in wednesbury and lost? I think we need Mr Bashford on the case on his return.

Hmmm, so its nto actually ont he data base yet! So he just put you on the D of E, scheme. Basically all ISA purchases would be added up and as long as we collectively spend over a certain amount each year (not much as I remeber) then we can stay in the scheme. Not much use until its properly set up, I'll chase them up again.

No, they do 10% for card holders of there own 10% scheme, but I was goign for contract their contract discount scheme which is for large groups etc. Discounts vary depending on products but 15-20% is normal. They are quite strict in most stores but will do discounts for BMC, scouts, ramblers etc but need a membership card to be shown. Gettign them to accept ISA cards is good news!

How did you know that you might get a discount with an ISA card? I hadn't told many people as it wasn't confirmed as set up yet?

Seriously? Did you show an ISA card and they accepted it? I have been workign on it for a year and thought I had got no where, the guy that runs the discount scheme said it was fine but it seemed he had never got it "actioned" and put on the company computer/till system. I knew the guy from when I worked there (he's the only remaining member of the original head office team) I had been e-mialing him again to get it sorted but was not gettign a reply. If it has been sorted then this is quite an important step for all members of the ISA.

The cow was curious and stood watching as we prepared our evening meal. It would have been serene if it wasn't for the constant clanging of the enormous bell hanging around its neck. An approaching storm was our only hope of a peaceful night tucked up underneath the large boulder in Val Bodengo. Yeah, not pretentious or anything!!
  13. Thats true but I thought tree surgery was exempt but apparently if the tree surgery is for the purpose of construction i.e. on a site where construction is being carried out then its all CIS. Only after the house is sold can you then go back and do tree surgery and it becomes private tree work.
  14. I recently had to call the CIS help line. They said if the tree work is for the wider scheme of buildign house then it comes with CIS (not exempt) I had always got away with it through certain wording of invoices (arboriculture not site clearance) but a recent job I did they just taxed me 30%. Not the end of the world as the money come off my tax bill but if I had worded the invoice differenty and seperated the machinery hire/use then they could only tax me from the labour part of it. I want to keep working on this site so will get my self CIS, do better invoice and let them have 20%. Plus my rates will go up by erm 20% should do it!

I've got a spare window you can throw 300 out of if you want?
  16. We may have been a bit one sided here but I think some good points have come accross. Yes, we've bashed the boss quite a bit and we don't know his story but no harm done, we've advised based on the facts given if this young lad is telling it wrong then our advice to him is wrong so its too bad for him. Discussing it here is actually what the forum is for and no names have been mentioned.
  17. But your the Boss Mick, thats fair enough for you as you make your choices as to when to work and how much to charge etc. Its not fair for the young lad to be available 5 days a week and have no say in what he actually does or the hours he gets. Its a tough world for sure but decency is possible to find. For me if I don't work I spend all day eating instead!!
  18. Thats what I should have done, pulled a rope up in place of the throwline, I think I had my access line up one the first tree and no spares. The first piece of deadwood out of the firs ttree got wrapped up in the throwline and that was that. (groundie was having a climb too, so he no help at all!)
  19. I tried that recently by leaving a throwline in the second tree. Big mess!!
  20. There is less force on the anchors than if you used a redirect and about the same force on it as if you used two seperate ropes on two anchor points. Sure you would never use either method if you were unsure about the safety of the anchor but its just needs to be remembered that it is not as good as two seperate anchors. The distance of fall would be equal to the distance from you to the anchor that failed as that amount of rope would suddenly be re introduced into the rest of your sytem. So if you are 30 feet from either anchor and 20 feet off the ground, if one anhcor fails its gonna hurt!
  21. I'm surprised honeys are sellign those, I would have thought you need a specific boot to fit them onto, with rigid soles and front and rear bit to clip them onto. Strap on crampons would fit any bit but are not really rigid enough for front point climbing which is what you would be doing. Go for normal spikes, they can last years. My first pair of buckinghams lasted 10 years for me and are still in use by an occasional user somewhere.
  22. Shreks Wee Brother is available
  23. HAs the guy got his music video up yet? I'm in from the pub but I see no success story yet!
  24. Correct! I employed a fireman, he had tickets etc and was brilliant! He declared the income above his salary so all was fine. One of the best workers I had, shame he set his house on fire with a bbq and forgot the number to call!! RIP mate.
