  1. Ah, I remember now waht we did!! The thermostat was stuck shut so removed it and we broke it to make it open and re fitted it broken but open. The van was fine then no temp troubles and I ran it for a few weeks before gettign round to getting a new one. But that was in summer.
  2. Disconnect the thermostat and see how it seems? Obviousyy if it is overheating you'll not have a way of knowing about it! I did this with mine (LDV not vito) and drove it for ages, but I'm sure that was in the summer and my mechanic friend said make sure its fixed by winter or you'll have trouble! So I'm not suggestign you run it with no thermostat for long but see if it ticks over over and sounds ok, and check the temp just by feel/smell and maybe drive a few miles. If it seems ok then get a new thermostat.
  3. Oh yes, that again! I've still not tried it that way!
  4. Since I've just got some meindle boots, I'm determined to footlock the tail for a bit to get the skills back. My last boots were hopeless for this so I used a pantin a lot. I will still use a pantin when wearing spikes and maybe go back to it once if feel I've mastered the footlocking again (not mastered as such but you know what I mean)
  5. Paper bag over the head would be just as good.
  6. I have tried it, and yes I agree for partial crown lifts or deadwood on one side only its the dogs.
  7. NAh, its for girls and its just an excuse! Are you saying she never does your head in the rest of the year? Vitamin D can help as its produced naturally when there is plenty of sunlight and so lack of it can be a contributing factor to SAD, but in reality lack of sunlight makes us less energetic so doing stuff makes us more tired than usual and tired = moody. Its not rocket science, you just need to get on with it and ignore the moods, or dump her? Not long now though before the sun comes back. It comes back faster than it went away, so in 4 weeks there be a huge difference.
  8. Do you use Rads for the ascent? Or to work from on the way up? Or all day long?
  9. Get the climbing tickets so you can be a better groundie, and the fellign ones when you really need them, if at all, many people dont have 33. Even if you don't become a climber as such, being rescue qualified will open up far many doors than fellign tickets will in the arb world, but if forestry is where you really want go then I guess fellign is better. As far as age goes, I guess that is a problem for either industry but it depends on fitness more than age.
  10. Didn't mean to be picky about the terminology, just thought I'd mention it. I know wht you mean by Drt and my typing is lazy as well!
  11. Just my opinion. I can see the benefit for long descents to save the hitch. Anyway I guess its supposed for working off srt, and that is something I don't see the point of. We have the most perfect system for our industry (Ddrt) and its simple and safe and practical and can be improved, changes etc etc. I don't understand why anyone would want to work off srt all day long? Srt for access, and maybe do a bit on the way up if you want, but Ddrt is such a good system. Anyway just my opinion, thats all, and ,my opinion is usually wrong.
  12. Going back to the original picture. WTF! I see where he's comign from but a bit OTT IMO..... To save your friction hitch on long descents it is possible to use an 8, if you have a tree motion harness you can just clip it to the lower side D ring, left or right dependant on what side you prefer, so its below your friction hitch and hitch is the back up. You'll be descending off one side of the harness only which is a bit odd but on the TM its ok. After that, just a quick thing about terminology... our normal double rope technique is called Ddrt and not DRT as that is something else. So its Srt for single rope technique and Ddrt for Double(d) rope technique. Drt I think is doube rope technique which is like double ascent ropes for caving or in our case footlocking or twin foot ascenders on two fixed lines would be Drt. While we are at it can someone remind me what Rads stands for? I know waht it is but where did the abbreviation come from?
  13. Cool, good thing to aim for. I'm 40 this year so I just want to do more and enjoy it. I did some first ascent peaks in Alaska when I was 20, that will do me for achievement!
  14. No, your a non smoker who want to live!!! Psycology makes us move away from bad things, but really we should think about movign towards good things. So instead of not wanting to die you must want to live instead.
  15. Thats good advice, you don't smoke!
  16. Start mountain climbing or re start it? Have you done much before? If you can climb trees all day then you cshould be able to get up any mountain in the country, you might puff a bit but you'll still get there.
  17. 4 days will go in a flash, especially if your not working, I struggled to not smoke at work but that was all.
  18. Oh, and new years resolution is to climb more mountains!! only 3 last year was pathetic! So on bike or foot its back to the hills.
  19. Frank be careful around the four day mark! Your body will allow you to pretend you have given up smoking for 4 days but after that it will try and trick you back into it. Remember its your mind that decided to quit, and your mind must ignore what your body is telling it. So many times I've found myself buying fags on day 4 thinking it was the best idea I'd ever had and not realisign it was a trick!! Nearly 3 years for me now though!
  20. This go pro one looks good. £299 for HD quality check the test video GoPro Official Store: Wearable Digital Cameras for Sports
  21. HAve you got a grcs? Looks like a good job for one, set the tallest biggest straightest tree up as the rigging point then work the whole lot from there.
  22. Is your name really J.S.Hoddy or are my eyes mistaken me?? J Shoddy tree services would be a well cool name!!!!!!!
  23. Thanks boss, excellent work as usual.
  24. Good stuff reg. I like how the balanced bits get through the editing process! Was that a days work? What would the cost have allowed you time wise if you didn't have the crane. 2 days or not that much? I guess its not your job so its not important to know.
  25. How does that help in the scenario shown? Drt off of an srt line is a useful trick. Srt is more efficient for large ascents and easier to set up than a lockjack would be.
