  1. Apart from Cowboy movies did anyone find the old vid ? I wouldn't mind seeing it again.
  2. MB he's tree fishing with a throwline. Did you see the request for the old vid "Oregon Coffee Break" it made me curious to see it again some one suggested that may be you had a copy MB ?
  3. Tom D .How are you? what your srt setup now days ? any pics ? any video?
  4. Quote from LaZ Its great SRT is being considered and discussed. For me, like Tom and DMc, the point is increased bio-mechanical efficiency and safety. If we start counting seconds in an industrial environment, over time we could be sorry. Im pretty sure it the petzel "absorbica' fully open 1.6m.But will get pics next time. The lock on the pantin is great( much easier than fiddling with a crab).I think that its not there originally so as not to be used as life support. The SaS give five points of attachment, 2 gloved hands( not technicaly life support) 2 ascenders( life support) and one pantin(not life support). this definitely helps this old climber overcome his resistance to climbing on string!! Yep i have fouled the elastic cord on pulley, when was not so familiar the system. I think Scott said the strop on the basic was short enough to keep any fall below Factor 1 As i said before its very aerobic as u use both upper and lower body at a high rate ..must be fit
  5. Thats cool Steve.I am not a great footlocker and as i am approaching 50( climbing 20 years) and have hurt my back am looking for more efficient ways to climb As Tom D said. I don't feel the need to speed but do see it as an indicator of efficiency. Mostly we do climb smaller stuff i am at present working on a avenue of elms that have been " lopped' and hacked by power line clearer's.Rarely use SRT but i like to be stretched. That what guys like Scott do ,we save most of our big jobs for him and i mostly ground when he's around , but i learn heaps!! life long learning .Scott said he appreciates the feedback and is at the moment replacing the croll with a "mini trachion" (or some such) for more security. Will video in September when he comes back over.Probably be a different again then!!
  6. I have both an Ibuki and a zubat ...prefer the zubat the Ibuki relegated to backup .Also only use for prunning.
  7. Sorry Laz that should be 400mm not cm . Bit OTT kind of describes Scott ,he always is doing . jigging retrying, coming up with with new gear. Seriously this is a fast system ie Scott has clocked 50 ft in 11 secs compared to 50ft in 18 sec for him footlocking (on a good day)and it makes the frog walker look slightly cumbersome. The pantin is a mod by taking the cam from a petzel left hand ascender. This does not make it life support and dont tell petzel.
  8. Its Orange actually and it....keeps my head warm !! Its a safety beanie , it goes with my cut proof shorts and steel cap sandals Really I was trying to show off TAZ
  9. Dean yep you are right u only use it on big tree pruning. We have a big 120 ft Euc removal coming up and Scott would spike up that. I know the groundsman was exaggerating but he said said we did in 2 days what he seen other crews take two weeks. Sounds good though!!.So we might beat you home yet!! Scot said the system is loosely based on the texas walker system in caving and he is still developing it. Las the Cinch is behind the breakaway Petzel strop which only opens to 400 cm . He had two lines one holding one for lowering. Mines 100 meters .
  10. or pack it in the kit bag. Which we did on the day as we both went up and did either side of the tree.
  11. Dean you can either leave it clipped on the acess line (except the pantin which stays on your foot)
  12. The harness http://en.petzl.com/petzl/ProProduits?Produit=656
  13. The little pulley from the pantim to the basic ...thats what makes the system FLY!!! Very aerobic !!
  14. Nice pic's ? The location ? Beautiful winters day at Beauty Point nearr the mouth of the Tamar River Tassie deadwooding Euc's. Nice pic's ? Scottie ( The Edge) Sharpe ? Current Victorian and Tassie Tree Climbing Champ. The Croll and the Basic are life support the pantin isnt he has an energy absober on the other end off the acess line with a Cinch for lowering.

    SaS SRT

  16. ..... when you have oak, eucalypt ( mostly),she oak, sequoia , sequoiadendron, blackwood, pines(various)and crypress among others on your firewood pile. ......when you try to remember where on the tree you cut log from when you put it on the fire. ......you have to prayer harder to be humble because you spend most of the day looking down on people:001_smile:
  17. U use a kind of flicking action whipping it back behind you and then flicking it forward. I took the 4hour drive to the Tahune after seeing the vid. You dont really see from the video the small drop zone Grahame had to work with. Under the Air walk there are guy cables and paths close to where it all landed. Well done!!!
  18. I have a 2 white vertex vent helmets. white to reduce heat ,it can get hot in Tassie. 2 so i can strip down and clean and grab afresh one if needed. Plugs on string in summer .peltor muffs in winter mostly wear orange glasses pruning add visor for removals( more chips). One problem with white...people think your the Boss. I s that the same in UK.
  19. I rarely use my SRT setup but it is handy to have for bigger ascents.Scott Sharpe designed it and it is great to use.I convinced my Boss( leading contractor) to buy 100 meters 10 mm Spectra which mostly sits around but a handy when needed.
  20. The danger of working alone:sad:
  21. Now thats a chipper operator....
