  1. Surely such a tree deserves a more of an effort to retain it !! Doesnt seem much treescape about from the video. But i dont know all the facts so there could be some major cause to remove it. It is hard to get the balance between "safety"/ insurance and "grandeur"/ function issues. Is it just a big sick dangerous messy vegetable or a beautiful shading beneficial ( insert big list of the benefits of trees) living creature. Thats why I find "tree reporting " is really not that easy!! As an ex hippie i lean away from the " if it moves shoot it ,if it stands still cut it down " hillbillie mentality. Lets face it after it is cut down where is the future in that. Just ask the guys who worked in the Sahara Forest. RjM
  2. ‘Councillors received advice from a tree surgeon who said the roots had become infected with a fungal disease’. Are"Truffles" are a fungal root disease on oaks?
  3. Ahh thats why i bought that funny looking pulley and revolver thingo. Anyone used the W C Ropeman setup ( page 19) ? Hows that working for you? RjM
  4. Hey Robdog how ya doing??

  5. Mark I think robdog is talking about a floating anchor point with a pulley probably set on a static line and the drt system set on it ,...ithink. Footlocking Practise as dean said. Flat soled shoes for max locking, work the rythm, elbows in , knee out. But what would i know I hardlly footlock. Sorry its been a long week finished off with a climb in the pouring rain RjM
  6. Oakman the minitraction is clipped into the basic and the basic to the Petzel srt harness and his upper harness is over his shoulders. A shock cord running from a ring ( added to ) on the pantin up to a small pulley ( attached under the basic) and then back down to a foot loop.Basic is attached to the harness by small life rope runner as life support. No thats not me climbing but it is me talking. Dont know who this is [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4GD_JQ0P8E&feature=related[/ame] RjM
  7. Glen you need to update your avatar then!! As an oldie I use the pulley/friction hitch prussick with the pantin ie using the stronger leg muscles more than the upper body. Also have mostly converted the other climbers on my crew to the prussick/ fixe combo( pictured on last post). Is any one else using this setup? Tie one fishermans bend to the top of the fixe and the other bend goes in between the pullies eyes.this means less room is taken up on the biner.
  8. Hey RobDog Seen This http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=qfPQnHY1Sjo&eurl=http://video.google.com.au/videosearch?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&h RjM
  9. Just recently got your message. I do have a video of when he used in the Victorian Masters Challenge ( which he won ) but i i dont know if it would be to helpful as to the gear he uses. It needs some editing but i will see if i can get it to you. He keeps refining it anyway , you know what gear feaks are like!!!

  10. This is what i am using I call it a prussik ie rope on rope . Aren't they all versions of prussiks?
  11. I get it!!Rock climbing ropes is for climbing rocks, Arb rope is for climbing arbs ( trees):001_tt1:
  12. Throwline to the Bag , A slipped bluntline with extra twists( similar to a slipped cinch knot) for easy release..Thowline to rope without eye clove and half hitches with twisted half hitch on last( similar to Rupes pic.Throwline to eye on rope, clip small rated biner to loop on bottom of throw bag or bowline to eye..

  14. Problem with swivels is that they swivel !! tried one didnt like it.
  15. Or maybe this could be adapted to throw line http://www.kyudo.com/hassetsu.html
  16. "my throw lining is just o.k so this helps a lot". Secret to better throw lining Practice ! Practise ! Practice ! ( like years of lt !!). Liked the Web site . Is that your Business? Any chance of a job? ( just joking).
  17. You can also 1 Isolate limb with throw line 2 set static access line round limb 3 tie apine butterfly on access line and thread line through and pull line up to snare limb 4 Srt up(one side). 5 leave SRT gear on access line .6 Gear can be retrieved from the ground for next climber or rescue.Seen it done but haven't done it yet would like a new static line left my old one at my old job( Boss bought it). Old 50 in 15 days!!!
  18. It requires an ability to cleanly snare a TIP without any limbs in the way.Apart from that it seems good method which i recently used when climbing up to some big outer limbs on a large White Gum ( E viminarlis).
  19. "You seem well informed on this matter. Which qualification / certificate is most recognised in Australia? May have a full time climbers job there and wanting to take a quali which is recognised by the Aussies." Seems the same issue DownUnder which quaily is best ?? Personally I go for the ISA ( its international !) I am hoping to do mine perhaps this year. I have level 3 certificate(hort /arb) but it is 20 years old.Time to refresh.
  20. The black line is made of shock ( elastic) cord. Scott said finding a little pulley to match it wasnt easy.Foot loop to the Basic with solid cord, Basic to Harness solid cord(life support), Basic to little pulley on Minitraxion (with shock cord) down to ring on modified Pantim.Minitraction to Harness (life support).Petzel Srt Sequioa Harness. I think.patentpending:001_tongue:
  21. If you click on my name and "find some more posts" some pictures are under a post on 28-07-08 Sas Srt . But he has replaced the croll with a minitraxion and probably some other mods.
  22. Thats how most react to seeing it the first time!!:001_tt1: Andy...I will try to get Scott to put it in writing but basically it is as dialogued on the video.
  23. As promised a video of Scott Sharpe's SRT system. Sorry it was taken on a mobile phone and i dont know how to load utube (can any one help?).
