  1. Is this why the "V rig " doesn't appear in the " Hitch climbers guide to the Canopy" ? Or did i just miss it?
  2. Now Id try and set a V rig probably with assit from groundies. This is where i have used two prussiks and both ends of the rope. If you are u asking about unassisted ...throwline with mini grapple.
  3. I was working a big Euc the other day and got caught in a in the rain but went on to finish the tree. Cold and wet on the outside and hot and wet on the inside. Soaked inside and out. I didnt go to the doctor:001_tongue: just went home and changed. Was working 10 mins away. I think it would be hard for girls to fit in here in Tassie .Its all so MACHO sometimes ....BIG SAWS....BIG TREES..BIG EGOS...I sometimes find hard to fit in.
  4. OR Throwline in to a nice high point( preferably one you can work a fair portion of the tree from) and ascend up and strop on. Taking the time to get good at throwlining can be a long tangle road but worth it in the end, I havent seen anyone use the double prussick system for years and would think through and shuffle other options before pulling it out off the tool box! But it is in there.....some where...i think.
  5. Brings a new meaning to the nickname of one of our operators which is " slug" Actually it was interesting. Thanks
  6. In my limited experience to have a capable rescue climber with you is rare and one with dedicated rescue kit( like the comp. climbers have ) is even rarer. If this is my situation only ...." tough" but if as i suspect i am not alone in this what are you doing as integral to an overall risk reduction stratergy?
  7. Who is only climbing when they have another competent climber with them or do you mostly rely on self rescue.
  8. Could this evolve into the "end" of Dbrt as we know it. Looks like its makes srt more userable. I will be trying it . Thanks for the other hints Oakman.
  9. It just maybe you have to get high enough to cut a few limbs for line clearance or some thing .
  10. LOL Thats my kind of answer!! Q :How long is a piece of sting Ans: About half as long as twice its length. Depends on lots of things .Last one I did (no spikes) with a pantin From throwline to top 20mins.

    Srt

    Flying yeah!!
  12. Dont think ive seen better Srt system yet. But i am biased . Its a sequoia harness he is using. My Srt system is a version of this.
  13. Flipline .Silky( when needed), Two revolvers ( one as rope redirect on harness) I Petzel williams krab.Small sling,Ropeman. Chainsaw and 500ml water bottle. Other stuff as needed.
  14. Heres mine a six turn simple set up. More compact thus not as free.
  15. Heres mine its a bit worn and modified.
  16. I he was an arborist.....what am i then ? I laughed ,i cried ( out to them) I cringed ! What a classic ...of what not to do!! How do these guys survive?
  17. As in Whoopie ie a rigging sling see the HSE rigging research PDF in the rigging and roping thread
  18. Yep not PPE but a handy little tool though:sleep1:
  19. How did you go Drew? Did Cody use a revolver or the Crab/ pulley in the comp? Didn't you say something about a problem with the revolvers bend radius ? Seriously thought I rarely SRT even thought i have a good kit and a neat little bag to stash it all in at the top. Last big tree I pruned (35m) iI pantined up, whats the rush as i get older ( now 50, don't laugh just keep breathing and you'll get there too!!) i see the sense in a gradual warm up access method. Still i might give the DbRT of SRT a try.
  20. Nice to see it again thanks. He looks as old as me now!!
  21. No I wont get to Conference this year , hope you have a good time.

  22. No Drew, I was refering to the " Signing off " part of Oakman's statement. I don't know about you but when someone says " sign off on this " it seems that the concern is more for their skin if some thing goes wrong. Especially when, after going through the protocols etc you are told to do some thing entirely different ie the protocol is just not practical. This appears to happen quite a lot in my part of the woods. Back to access lines, we just purchased 90 meters of a static line for Srt( big tree access) are you saying i shouldn't use it in smaller stuff as a Back up line as well? Ps Thanks for the pics of your Hitch climbers rig , I tried a similar setup today. It worked well. RjM
  23. As long as its all not just a "BCE" butt covering exercise. RjM
  24. Thanks Drew Thats what I was finding the self advancing ( only slight) which seems it might be a pain in some situations. No splice because off the bending on the splice as it comes near the ring on the bridge? RjM
