  1. haha i will leave a feedback after borrowing Steve's spiderjack! if its is awesome or annoys me or is really hard to get used to then i'll let you all know
  2. cheers for that deerman! i have been intrigued by the ropewrench and cant quite get my head around it, but that is for another thread!
  3. ah cheers matey! i'll send you a pm:001_smile: how did you get on with it mate? do you prefer hitch or cam? cheers
  4. also... is the lock jack rated to descend on a single line without a rope wrench or whatever to back it up? just another thought is all!
  5. yeah they are expensive eh! but i do get through a fair bit of hitch cord a year! if the cams are only a tenner, it'll only be a bit more expensive than gettin new hitch in all year. also if their advantage outways the cost difference i'd definitely look in to one!
  6. the cheaper ones you've seen are the art positioner mate, no good as a main line device! ART - Climbing Gear but look at them! they are so shiny! so what puts people off of these devices??
  7. no worries Ben, an excuse to dream of the moors is all good! the one thing that worries me is, can you put the lockjack/spiderjack on midline? if not does this ever bother anyone?
  8. Those birches looked awesome Josharb! painting wounds is a big no no matey, its something that arborists used to do many moons ago but the paint actually seals in pathogens rather than protecting the tree from them! just give it a go and try and make it look like Josharbs trees!
  9. i'll gladly take you for a days climbing near me mate, about an hour and a bit from you though? i have a friendly local farmer who allows me to teach guys in some stunning horse chestnuts!
  10. I have been climbing on a vt for years and love it:001_cool: But i am a gear fiend and i use camming devices with rock climbing and like the idea more and more with all these video's and discussions. So.... what i mean to ask is, is all the fuss and hype justified? Has anyone given it a good go and not liked it/been converted? How often do cams need replacing? Can you glaze a line easily? I'm seriously thinking about getting one but want to be well informed first! pros and cons from believers and non please!
  11. sometimes its a case of knuckling down and just getting out there, if i take too much time gingerly stepping out there i often end up getting in a wobble and loosing the bottle, if i go out there like a cannonball then i am fine! it does take practice but just try and relax and just go for it!
  12. hey matey no work?

    bit minging out huh!

    Lucky man

another epic miscalculation! ugh! what a wally!
  14. bloomin eck! looks nasty! were supposed to get a right old blow all across the country over the next few days!
  15. i had a sonim landrover phone. the screen cracked and then it had some system failure! i bought it from tesco, they say that they'll replace the phone if it broke but when i rang i got re directed to an automated answer machine to leave my details, never recieved my replacement phone and have gone back to my old nokia from 5 years ago. otterboxes look awesome though if you want a gucci phone. oh and the battery on the sonim was rubish!
  16. you'll have to post an after shot mate to show off the good work of the NHS! dont worry about the oldies queue jumping, one day it'll be us lot with the busted hips! good luck with it all mate and all the best for a quick recovery!
  17. that's horrible news! my thoughts are with the guys wife and kids! and the poor guys working with him!
  18. thats, my point really, at his stage the last thing he needs to be thinking every minute of the climb is the million ways in which he can die! he needs to think of the safest way of doing things yes but without the fear of god stopping his every move!
  19. :001_rolleyes:okay so there is always a possibility of falling, especially if you are carrying a cutting tool and manage to get a rope or your harness bridge:001_huh: but at your stage as long as you are tied in to a bit of wood thicker than your wrist and don't go mad doing big swings (which i doubt you'll do) and either don't carry a cutting tool or just be extremely careful with it, there is very little that can go wrong. you have already showed the ability to get up a tree! when teaching people to climb i get in the tree with them and set targets out on the end of limbs, like slings (or their wallet!) and this gives them something to focus on. if your having a real wobble i would systematically go through all the logic behind the system you are climbing in, reminding yourself of how strong it all is! climb safe and climb long!
  20. yup! splitting logs today off for a spot of rock climbing tomorrow!
  21. get good at hand sharpening! i have never used a machine to sharpen a chain, so i dont know what they are like but just get good with a file and there is no need!
  22. Mrs Ayers bought me a Ropeguide! i am dead chuffed with it! i do get that work related stuff can be a bit of a let down, but A ROPEGUIDE! come on! that is awesome! i think its because she's fed up with rope guts all over the living room when i trying to splice up my own versions!
  23. get some boots out there mate! one less thing to weigh in and i bet they're cheaper out there!
  24. oh my word! those guys are amazing!
