  2. dont worry tree dweller, some arbs get grouchy this time of year! just keep your chin up and dont let the baaaaards get you down! you right to ask on here as without a clue on how to quote you have to start somewhere!
  3. i'm the same with pricing up jobs, end up cutting it fine on earning anything at all! gladly i just climb for other people now so rarely do quotes..
  4. :001_huh:plan for the worst so you can keep on working at your best! a safe climber is a good climber, and safety not only means not cutting oneself it means being ready for anything!
  5. id say that sounded a bit cheap to me! so you have 2 days with 3 guys so thats 6 man days there already. don't know what rates your paying but if it were similar to what our guys are getting you wouldn't have much change out of £800 your going to have to liaise with the council and by the sounds of it there is going to be some rigging involved. the walk out with the waste sounds epic even with a little mule in there. think of the clear up after.. it'll be a quarter of a mile of raking and blowing! there will be stuff falling in to the water etc etc. obviously it is impossible to price something without seeing it but id go with a ball park of £1400 and upwards, i think even at that you'll be wondering why you didnt just push the price up a little more. if all goes well give your blokes a tip!
  6. okay so i've thought about it a bit..... id open up will ayers tree school, teach people to work in trees and run a recreational climbing course as well. i think 100k would more than cover all the gear and insurances etc. i have some land i can use already, with some lovely trees on it and a large section that can be felled at a slow pace. i love teaching, id still probably do the odd bit of climbing for people or else i'd miss it!
  7. wasnt this called a treepeedo a few years ago, i swear i saw one at a show... could be wrong. i remember the guy explaining it but those photo's explain it alot better, i'd love to give one a go, wonder what it'd be like to throw?
  8. id buy gear and go big! but im young so why not!!
  9. if you look up the any persons arrest law, it states that any person can attempt to stop someone else from comitting an offence by using reasonable force, you are allowed to do this if there is reason to believe that you can do so in a more timely manner than the police, and if you can do so without causing undue injury, so the only argument left is wether the guy used too much force... well... not in my eyes, they should have waited till the train was moving
  10. it really is a thing to try before you buy, it depends so deeply on body type and weather you like certain ways one harness works compared to the next. i have climbed in quite a few harnesses, i like the sequoia and the tree magic, my next harness will prob be the tree motion though.
  11. blowin a hoolie here in cambs! wonder if i'll be on normal scheduled work or callouts tomorrow! hopefully both!
  12. well serves him right then! our motto is go big or go home but there are limits!
  13. http://www.treeregister.org/pdf/Champion%20Trees%20native%20species%20May%202011.pdf not sure its quite what you wanted but near!
  14. i find going rock climbing and belaying climbing partners indoors and out helps with friction management, thats what its all about! at college we took ages rigging bits off to get a feel for it, quite often, groundies are just thrown in at the deepend. last week i had a rigging job where the groundy had never used a portawrap, i was uber slow on the job but got it done in time and safely.
  15. well i just turned my monitor on its side and although i agree the groundy should of let it go, the climber should have seen from its trajectory that he was in the line of fire! i make a point of watching bits to the floor, or atleast till they are clear of me and have completed any swinging that might affect me! that said, it was a huge piece for a port wrap, not sure a tag line woulda done much to a bit that size unless it was tied off on something?
  16. well. yes and no in my opinion. if he had been a bit more aware, he could of got out the way of it. besides we don't know what happened before this, how many wraps he asked for etc. if my groundies make a mistake its because they don't know any better and that's because i haven't told them. even the most experienced groundy needs to be told when to let it run and when to hold it... its teamwork surely? i love learning from other peoples mistakes and im definitely going to learn from his!
  17. wow, now there's a whole load im crossing my fingers for! just had a good look at the list Steve! man you've been busy! theres so much there!
  18. although your anti boy band yoghurt song is lovely and all, i think if i were going to start a facebook thing it would be the millitary wives, atleast they are for charity rather than creamy goo!
  19. yeah her beard tickles and her belly is huge but she's very kind!
  20. im hoping for a ropeguide! i think santa (my wife) will more than likely use my account to buy it but its the thought that counts eh!
  21. i think if you have hired it for a day and it breaks down during that time then you are well within your rights to ask for that whole day back! we are in an industry where we get paid for a job well done not half!
  22. not that near you but i got 2 8 footers for 60 quid, still a rip off but com on! its christmas!!!
