  1. splicing workshop in the south i am trying to organise a splicing workshop in the south probably at sparsholt college. i know some of you might be interested or may know of other people who are. if so could you get in touch with me as i am organising a course with treeworker. we need at least 8 people. the course is a bit pricey, costing £160 but that includes the tools to take home and lunch and tea etc. i need to know definite numbers before we can get the ball rolling so let me know as soon as possible. PM me or e-mail to [email protected] cheers will.
  2. hey john, how do i change my name to Will Ayers on here. is it easy or is it a pain in the arse?

  3. hello there. i am out of work at the mo and am a fully qualified climber with an ND in arboriculture, if you need me, weekends or during the week, then i should be able to get to you. cheers
  4. ankles are realy bad though as when they are dislocated the blood supply to the foot is cut off and if not treated you could loose your foot. this isn't the case with elbows apparently and hence the long wait.
  5. yeah marks got some pics. i gave him a cd full of them. theres some cracking pics of people at the top. gimmer, get them on here for all to have a gander at, especially the ones of steve looking a bit camp.
  6. the trangia you have is as good as any stove you just need to get the gas adaptor for it try this place Trangia Gas Burner Converter Adapter for Trangia 25 and Trangia 27 camping cooker. - Walk And Travel i have one and use it at comps and when on days away from tea sources, john shuttler will vouch that they are good as i fed him tea all weekend with mine at the uk&i finals
  7. i climbed one of englands tallest trees with college earlier this year, my tree was next to the tallest and that was measured at over 60m which is 200 foot ish. it was awesome. i stayed up there for ages taking photo's of the other climbers in the tallest tree got a bit cold, coming down i had to change my 37m rope over 3 times and then get on to the SRT system for the last 10m or so i was warm by then!

  15. ahh but are you happy wee shreky boy. i certainly am and im currentlty in a worse position than you. mortgage going out and nothing coming in but im realy excited when big jobs come up and never dread going to work. i love coming home knackered and just spending time with the missus and the cat. more money would be nice but i'd rather be happy than rich. hope thats what you mean, living on a shoestring can be great as long as you are happy
  16. my mum and bro work at addenbrookes as did i years ago.

im sure i'll be up the work climb or something.

i agree i must be brave or stupid, pretty cool place to get married though. i'll take you up on the offer next time were up. milk and 2 please!

    see you at the comp.

  17. i spent the whole day up the work climb tree as the tech so missed it all, i wanted to see what people would do as i wouldn't have a clue. if that happened at work i think i'd have to get up on another line. its a shame that paul was trying to rush people through, he could have let people finish to see what they did. interesting to hear about the 3:1 pull system to release his weight of his system. the only trouble is paul has to go one step further next time. wonder what that rescue will entail. perhaps a guy passing out half way through a traverse between 2 trees.
  18. i agree that there should be a fitness test of sorts however aren't people who go to college going to be less fit, less experienced and less knowledgeable all at once. I think it is more important that a college produces fit people rather than only allows fit people in. I'm older than all of the boys on my course and they could run rings round me in some fitness test but I can work as fast, if not faster than most. some people joined the course looking a bit lardy, me included. but some of the lads are now carved out of wood (me not included, what can I say, I like food!).

it would be a great way to show people what we do without getting them in to a harness. but i agree that its probably a bit of a mare with H+S. theres one at Kew gardens that i took my grandad up and he loved it. great to see the birds and stuff. it would be an awesome project to be involved in
