  1. Have a search for New Zealand on here, there's heaps of info already been put up. Alternatively have a look at Treemenders posts as he's just sorted out a work visa for NZ. If you need more detailed info PM me with what you need details wise.
  2. I'm too old and unfit to get to the tips but I do have a set of AUS pruners for the tricky stuff.
  3. Harden up David, all that climbing out on tips will keep you feeling young and fit

    snow

It's funny but 30 minutes drive up the road there's a 2m snow base on the mountains but naff all here. Stunning morning this morning though. Hard frost and clear skies. First time my dogs had seen snow too. The confused look on their faces was priceless.

    yellow snow makes great snowballs.

Snowing now in Turangi. Nothing like putting your feet up in front of a roaring fire in this weather
  7. Adam, the Matais and Totara are in the bush just behind the houses in Pukawa which is the south end of Lake Taupo. I think there is a water reservoir/tank in the vicinity if you're trying to locate on Google earth.
  8. Maybe for you guys Adam but this old fart hasn't climbed anything that big in a while. I might just wait until you lot are at the top and then get you to pull me up I think Treemenders had some foresty work tied up down in Hurunui if my memory serves correct.
  9. 6 inches deep in Taupo surrounds at the moment and still snowing. Naff all in Turangi when I left at 6.30 though. If you're down at the mountain or this way give me a yell.
  10. Spoke to Stihl at the fieldays who told me they weren't getting the 201T here for at least another year. Spoke to my local dealer who has one arriving next month for me to have a nosey at. You could just run with the 192T if you want the cheaper option. I'm sure Drew has a spare 200T as he doesn't seem to use his much these days
  11. Sounds good to me. Better T up the boys. Will have to be september or October (give me chance to get over having my wizzies extracted) so I'll chase up on seeing if I can get the house over the road booked out.
  12. Treemenders, glad to hear you got it all sorted. Did your employer down in Hurunui help out with the visa in the end? How long did you manage to get your visa for? Well, you should arrive just in time for the start of the good weather, here's hoping it all works out for you
  13. A couple of options; the first is to talk to a shipping company and try and get some space in a container. If someone hasn't filled up an entire container you should be able to buy some of the remaining space. Take the saws apart and clean and disinfect them. This will make life easier at this end. The other option is to just sell them and buy more over here. There are a few people that get on the work and income sponsored forestry courses but drop out when they realise it's much harder work than sitting on your backside getting the benefit. Work and income pay for the saws but what usually happens is that the trainee flunks out after a month and the saws go back to the dealer to be on sold. I bought a month old 046, seen probably a couple of hours work at best, for $1200. The 066 or the new equivalent are the same. The only ones you won't pick up cheap are the smaller saws.
  14. Any reason for hating New York Steve? I'm not a big city person either, in fact the further away from people I am usually the happier I am. NY is more for the wife than me. And the surprise regarding small town America? This is why I need the pointers. I don't want to spend a fortune on a holiday I would rather forget.
  15. Cheers Graham, that's the type of thing I'm looking for. Not really keen on the big touristy thing. NY is for the wife but I want to do something for myself as well.
  16. If you can splash the cash, Meindles. Warm and still waterproof after three years of abuse and mighty comfy.
  17. Well, estimated costs for two weeks are around $11K so i reckon about two weeks If I can afford longer I will but that's probably pushing my budget to the max as I'm paying for the whole trip.
  18. Had a look at trip advisor but got a bit lost with that and the other info available. If I can stay less in NY that's sweet as the hotel costs are expensive to say the least and I've been told to stay at the best places I can afford. Not knowing the US I just don't have a clue where to go. I just like the look of some of those quiet little unspoilt places as far away from the hustle and bustle as poss.
  19. I'm hoping to be able to treat the Mrs to a holiday in the states early next year. First and foremost is about 5 or 6 days in New York but then I probably have another 6 to 8 days to kill. I had thought of San Francisco but would really like to see small town America. Any pointers appreciated. I definately don't want to do LA, Florida etc. I know it's not much time so I need to keep my options simple.
  20. Yep, me neither but had spent ages wondering. Now I'll probably forget anyway.
  21. Nice pics guys. Mistahben, what's the EPV? Looks like a freightliner with the 55' boom.
  22. One man band too at the weekends but generally now just for the smaller stuff. Went through the end of my thumb with the silky today after mistaking it for the branch I was cutting. Climbing line, saw, strop, branches and anything else near was covered in blood.
  23. Fair enough then.
  24. Where in the Blue Mountains Adam? Spent some time around Kurrajong and Katoomba working. Nice pics by the way.
