  1. evening guys looked at a large pine on a building site today oh my god . Bs 5837 out the window. future home owner asked for my opinion before he buys. about 100tons of subsoil banked up around it no protection fence site agent informs me that they have still to scrape 3ft of the ground level. all this on a mature pine no more than 20ft away from a plush new build ? i educated and told my customer that this tree will need removing within the next few years and this would then be at his exspense. my question to you lot is what is the max fine the development company could get if i blow the wistle on them ?
  2. they are nice the pouch fills with dust and even worse when you catch it on a branch and rip it half off
  3. lucky boy does your confidence no good. i had a big old Mac the other week , took the weight out of a multi leader then shat myself the whole tree felt .... not good you have to go with your gut on some things the ones what will get you are the ones that give you NO gut feelings im glad your ok mate , live to fight another day take care all of you
  4. i will never forget when my groundy kept asking to do things in the evenings and weekends fishing golf etc had to exsplain that i couldnt and that i have NO time for socialising or playing and that to keep us busy i had to look at at least 5-10 jobs a week. you guys understand most jobs are never over a days work so you have to look at, price up, and get at least 1 job every day. we are not like other profesions ie builders who if lucky find themselves with 3months worth of work from 1 job oh and yeah i agree shrek the pressure of paying wages which inturn finances other peoples lives is massive my grondys been grumbleing about money lately. what can i do ..... i cant control what he spends and on what ive told him before that i will pay him 1000 per week but your be out of a job within 2 weeks in regards to original post there is to many tree cutters out there and enough quality tree surgeons, the customer has to chose between the two
  5. keep my eyes and ears open down worthing and brighton way for you mate
  6. ive just had this customer went with a lower quote (£75) from a landscape gardener after i put in app couldnt drop price as already as low as poss and the principals of using a local grass cutter to do a profesional job. am going to invoice for tpo whch was granted, normaly charge £99 customers going to be pissed people should stick to there profesions... ps i would never tell you i could fix your car or service your boiler or re tile your roof.. but to many do.
  7. silky work love the redirect there. when chogging down i always use the top of the saw for cutting, it stops your pants getting full of saw dust. good work
  8. what pin themdown on lunch break and diy them with a couple of bricks haha
  9. no idea ? hope to never find out if not we would only employ guys who have had the snip
  10. imagine if a new gut starts for you and within 4 months says his girlfreind has just given birth and that he wants to take the 1 years maternity leave instead of her.. i think its broken down into some thing like 3 months full pay 3 months half pay and then £100 per week from there . now that would piss me off and i would not be able to afford to pay it especialy as you then have to hire someone else..... and then he does it and so on
  11. im under the impression if you draw up a contract of employment which suits you and your employee agrees and signs your ok
  12. at the end of the day the boss is going to pay you as little as he thinks he can get away with. one of my guys grumbles about his wage and all i say is 'if you would like i will pay you £1000 a week but your only have a job for 2 weeks' shuts them up
  13. ive just had to take on my guy he was self employed now employed he used to be day rate and worked bloody hard to finnish early every day. the change now is it costs me about a extra £150 pm a extra insurace policy of 800pa and holiday pay we told him no sick pay or maternity as he keeps reproducing kids. have a look at bunging him a few quid to buy his own gear ? and then take it out his wages per month? your then not supplying his tools to work with . as long as his providing you with a receipt when you pay him for his services you should be sorted
  14. not being funny but ive just had a student leave us his a good lad and everything but untill they buy equipment or pay insurances etc i think 40 a day is good . at the end of the day they are learning from us THE REAL WORLD. I found college teaches them everything they will ever need to now ONCE and then the box is ticked and its all forgotten. i put my old student on the spot once a nice big macra take down and i told him right your the boss how we going to do this ? he replys we could do this and we could do that... stop there i says could is not good enough how are we going to do it ?????? so many little things all add up to one big thing . qualifications are a form of recognition of skills but experience is everything imo

  17. hi guys my little tw125's twin rollers started messing about yesterday advice please was not pulling 4in+ stuff in only every now and then ? could it be this lovely weather got in the control box ? or maybe the belts to hydraulic motor slipping ? havent had to do anything to this macine since owning it ? should i get it looked at before anything goes bang. i remember reading a old post about throttle being fully opened and checked it help and advice appreciated
