  1. Block any route/path with a council approved notice and signs plus branches cut to really make access difficult and you can be sure that on every job you will find a schoolboy climbing though the barriers, an elderly person magically appearing under you as you chog off a massive lump of hairy arsed coni or a U.K plated Freelander that has followed it's SatNav around your fortress, up the verge and around the lamppost and is now trying to squeeze past the chipper and open mouthed groundy whilst the lady passenger waves a hand and covers her eyes in embarrassment. It happens, you can't stop it, it is just one of those things. Like elderly customers who try to sneak old fence posts and bags of garden rubbish into the pile of brash for chipping during lunch break... Ty
  2. Right, Seb bought a pro Bosch as he is a Bosch man as I am Stihl. Apparently the battery technology has advanced well with Li-Ion and so I should get more than sufficient time out of 2 batteries per day. Now then, what about this disk, the local suppliers are turning up blank and even one I called in the U.K shakes his head... What disk? and where? Cheers Ty
  3. Well, we are charging top dollar now. In fact... I don't think we can really charge more and keep a straight face:biggrin: There are always people cheaper that is for sure but there again, not everybody wants cheap. They want people they feel are professional and can be trusted to do a good job and are willing to pay for it. We are confident enough of our abilities and quality to put in a price that we know will make people wince a little BUT we have the web site and facebook pages plus a growing reputation locally to back it all up. The advantage of charging more is that WE CAN afford to invest in equipment, land and the future. If then one day, work dries up a little then we have the room to drop our prices and still turn a decent coin. Ty
  4. So... I'm off to a supplier of pro powertools in Rennes tomorrow to get a quote and advice. The prices they charge here are normally eye watering so if there is a real saving I'll buy online if they won't negociate. And now...the disks, what are you guys using? Cheers Ty
  5. Cheers, I'll look at Milwaukee. Is this mustard? DeWALT DCG412M2 Angle Grinder 5035048390887 Ty
  6. Hello, Looking for recommendations for a grinder and spare batteries to tickle up the stumpy teeth in the field. Cheers. Ty
  7. Here: BBC News - Making maple syrup - the traditional way Ty Disgusting really:biggrin: Never mind all that halal meat you've been eating. Like the spice Saffron which is basically crocus sperm or eggs which are unborn embryos, now exposed the trade in tree blood! Ty
  8. Here is a common one for us. When we do a quote I always put in 'option' stump removal. Every so often a client doesn't take us up on it. (normally the ones who negotiate for every 'petite sous') They say "Oh I have a mate with a digger who can get it out for a beer"... Oh yeh, right! Later I get a call "How much to get rid of that stump?":laugh1: Their 'mate' has either left it in the front garden realising the local tip won't take stumps OR has had a go with his 1.5ton mini-digger on a 1m+ cedar and FAILED but ruined the garden around the stump. I'm not interested, partly out of spite and partly because I don't need the kind of work that causes headaches through another's false economy. Ty
  9. Electric conduits for the automatic gate opening system and perimeter electric fence for the guard dogs. No-one I repeat NO-ONE is ever knicking one of our saws:sneaky2: Ty
  10. Day 2. and 3. In the end 400tons of gravel went down as we had to scrape away a great deal of top soil which is very deep and rich in this field. We are sowing an annual wildflower meadow to make a real show for this summer as we have a great deal of passing traffic and that's a lot of potential clients. Le Jardinier Anglais is on the up and our new headquarters should reflect our quality to the world. Ty
  11. Hello, When a client asks me how much to chip a tree or hedge IF they cut it down I tell them the same price as if you had got me to do the whole job. Besides, I add, "just where are you going to put this hedge/tree in the mean time?" as I look around their tiny suburban garden. Far easier, safer and less stressful to chip material as it's cut. Otherwise it can be like playing 'pickup sticks' with your arse cheeks! Ty
  12. Difficult to charge out log splitting for more than bought logs. Grass mowing, not looked upon as a high value service but more specialist works such as recovery, winching or chipping could be charged out for more. Ty
  13. What I don't understand is, your from Suffolk right? So what's up with Norfolk? Ty:001_tt2:
  14. I try to charge out our new John Deere 1026 at 45euros inc vat per hour with a minimum forfeit of 90euros plus 'deplacement' (travel one way) However, I pay a shed load more in taxes over here. If your all day on the same site then you can always drop your fee. Some-times we drive 100km which requires the truck, trailer and tractor now that adds up to serious $$$ just to top a field or split a few logs! Ty
  15. Hello, I would say that is about right for local work. Ty
  16. So that is 43euros inc' vat which is about the minimum we send a micro tractor out at per hour... Ty
  17. Yup, you can cook a Quadchip sufficiently so that it cuts out automatically this way when chipping dry dusty conifer hedges... Ty
  18. Ca MARCHE! Despite the rain we have some 80tonnes of 0-31 stone laid over geotextile with the rest delivered tomorrow making it up to 200tonnes or more. Our new headquarters are road side and should be a very effective advert in itself once we have landscaped. Aside from our chips and wood I shall be planting a hornbeam hedge and several styles of garden to show potential clients as one day when I am too decrepit to climb I shall potter about with herbaceous perennials and garden design. Ty
  19. Oh, there are Brits out here who charge that and even less... They'll soon give up, once the machine does! Ty
  20. The Dooso is 150k euro plus vat and he changes it every 3000hrs. It's pissing down here today and the tyres are slipping in the clay but the work advances.
  21. Twin tyres, 500euros a pop! £30 an hour for a 13tonner is good. Trouble we have is that the self employed and small companies are taxed to high heaven here. I pay 90% of an employees wages again in 'national insurance' and 33% on profits. BLERK! Ty
  22. A colleague is installing a hard standing at our new premises over the next 2 days. The 360 is a 15ton so should make light work of the job. With the electric and water going in that's over 10k splashed out so no directors dividend this year...or the next either! Put things into perspective, this 360 goes out at 90euros plus vat per hour and the ensemble for 135euros plus vat. Damn productive this father and son outfit, it's the second time we have used them with great results. Ty
  23. We are going to re-visit shortly to see and perhaps low stake them. They may not require it and put out sufficient roots fast enough to never need staking...I hope. Ty
  24. Hello, Le Jardinier Anglais planted 8 Betula humilis to replace the 12 Lombardy poplars we felled with Pie Eater Pete of this parish whilst he was on a busmans holiday here. I had ground out the roots but in order to plant we needed a mini-digger to break through the remaining roots. These trees are one hell of a price as they where container grown in 60litre pots but the client is an appreciative Jersey trust fund manager and so we splashed out on the biggest and best specimens we could source.
