  1. Use a Henchman platform. It is a brilliant tool, just expensive. We use Stihl 81R cutters and sharpen them twice a year. Read the RHS online guides or buy the book on pruning. Use a tarp on gravel. We do monster hedges over here almost every week. Mostly conifers that have been let go. Last big one took 5 men 2 days. Don't be afraid to tell a client that it may be better to fell, grind, replant than to try turning a pigs ear into a silk purse. At the end of the day, it is all lovely money! Ty
  2. I rather thought that at 36 you had passed your best before date... hhhh! Ty

  6. How about Alder? That was used for 'piles' for jetties and even ones from the Roman period can be found in river mud today. Any-one burned that once dry if it dries at all? Ty
  7. The red and yellow poppies are Lidl's own and I added the remainder of a bag we used for a clients meadow. I've mixed it with grass seed too as next year I will mow paths through to a circle in the middle. That is IF we don't just cover the whole thing in wood chips as business continues to grow... Ty
  8. Building contractor got in a 15ton swing shovel instead... Ty
  9. You may close this thread now Mr Bullman, I think it has run it's course. Bon nuit all Ty
  10. Hello, I need to source an alternative source of grinder teeth for our 4012. So has any-one experience of buying teeth from the USA? OR any U.K dealers Cheers Ty
  11. I began this thread by asking about the normal guarantees offered by dealers. My worst fears have come to pass. Thanks for all your comments regardless. Ty
  12. Perhaps we should all just stop discussing the pros and cons of machines and materials and totally avoid bringing up any problems so to avoid the risk of criticising suppliers and manufacturers. Ty
  13. One sided? One sided? Where do you read that Mr Bullman? Ty
  14. Skyhuck, Thank you, I really mean that too. I'm tired now, it's Sunday and having called clients to move work I'm mentally preparing myself for going 100% back to the HB20 for some pretty large stumps I'd booked for the 4012. Ty
  15. QUOTE Stephen Blair: I feel your life has thrown other stresses at you and you are focusing the blame on this dealership. 1. Only the dealership is to blame for supplying a machine with a fault. To have £20k of work and a team of men reliant on 1 truck is not ideal, 2. Two vehicles, one of which tows the tipping trailer filched by members of the Irish Bare Knuckle Caravan Club days before. if I were subbing you on a large job I'd need to know you can handle it, an excuse of a stump grinder stuck on a pickup would not be a relevant excuse for me not to get someone else and chase you for my losses. 3. Where do you read that I cannot handle things? I organised a replacement vehicle for this last week so work as normal. The previous jobs have been lost as the grinder had a fault, what could I do? You can't just pop out and hire one here as easily as the U.K. To make up for lost time before I have been grinding on Sundays and National Holidays in between faults also using our original and far more reliable Bandit HB20. The fault is in parts I wouldn't think are covered and I wouldn't expect a company to send a technician to a diferent country free of charge when already you have admitted a 90% improvement on a flick of a switch. 4. It is just as easy to get to France from Sussex as it is to Scotland. I was willing to travel and even booked a ticket to return the machine for repair but the response from the dealer over the first round of faults was that no-one would be willing or able to meet me. I still have that ticket to use up too. The second time I was told that I would have to leave the machine for at least a week AND pay £55+vat per hour for a technician...nice. Greenmech organised a technician to come out here. Bandit organised parts to be shipped and repairs to be made out here. Sadly, I chose to buy from the wrong company this time. I won't make that error a second time. I really won't. Ty
  16. Hello, At our new premises near Rennes, we sowed several flower mixes with grass seed to brighten up the place and to cause passing traffic to notice our business. Images here on our facebook page: Have a nose around! Ty
  17. You might get lucky as a good climber but unemployment for the age group 18-30 is running at 33% in Spain... Good luck though! Ty
  18. What are you doing in Montpellier then? Cos you not there for the surf now eh?...ha ha ha:laugh1: Ty
  19. One thing is, here in Frenchy France you can buy a decent house already renovated by a Brit at a keen price because the market is swamped with expats desperate to sell their properties. For around £60K a family home that would cost you £250K back in Angleterre. Ty
  20. They did in fact give it the steam clean of it's life, it was clean as a whistle when we received it. I've checked a fuse, wriggled any number of connections, squirted WD silicone electrical jollop (that worked last time and the starting/control issues almost went away) I opened a couple of circuit boxes to find water in one of them and a lot of dirt too BUT this box has open ports for the cables to pass but no drain hole for water (A design fault not the sellers I may add) Strange how the engine starts but only on manual not remote. The remote controls AND the manual do not function except the tether control STOP ENGINE toggle switch...bleh! Ty
  21. Housing benefit IF you rent is also good here. Housing itself as your must know is very much less expensive than the U.K. In the end, it's not just what you earn but what you spend. Ty
  22. What about further up the country up on the North Coast up near the Channel Ports to make travel cheaper? Life is cheap enough here to be able to save money. Your kid is worth 184euros per month IF your in the French tax system. Social housing, ours is a very smart and dirt cheap. Tax credits for 'modest income' earners. Markets for all your food. Weather is warmer in Winter up here and the Summers are just dandy. What's not to like? Ty
  23. Morning guys, Yes I agree with much you write. This machine is only a stop gap for us. I wanted to keep it for 2-3 years to help build up the business towards a larger newer machine. I feel like a fisherman with holes on his nets, unable to stop the catch passing through... Always more work though coming in! An episode like this won't sink us that is for sure but it hit me hard as Irish travellers made off with our tipping trailer and the chipper bearing going all within days of each other. I was beginning to wonder just who I'd upset up there... Ty
  24. Couldn't stretch to the 2550 45hp...
