  1. Too right, why should I move into a better position when I can just clip the top of my steel toe cap? Every second counts, the less time I spend in work and the more time out with my friends and loved ones (all say ahhhh) then so much the better.
  2. Pfft theres no time in the real world for work positioning. I reckon i could cut a tatoo of myself into a hawthorn hedge. Cut my boots quite a few times only with the 020 allways "Yeah thats close but...."
  3. Lol gotta laugh sry. Been there myself mate, stamped all over a wasps nest by mistake. Big mistake, ran down the street ripping my t-shirt off. Musta had about 20+ stings. H8 the bloody things.
  4. He was so lucky there. Exactly how not to use a chainsaw.
  5. I allways use a steel crab as a running bowline and if its really small diameter limb or very smooth bark with no pegs then a half hitch aswell. Very quick and has never came undone (yet)
  6. I've had a pair of aquafell xperts for about 8 nomths now and think there the bllcks All other boots ive had in the past would have fell to bits by now, these are still in one piece and are still waterprooof. Too many people think that with some boots and chainsaw pants on they are invincible and if anything happens its the manufactores fault
  7. Are people still capable of climing when they hit 40?
  8. We all justify the things we do "35 in a 30 zone wont do any harm" etc but i dont lose any sleep about it It was 8+ years ago. 3 cuts to left hand 1 to left leg. 2 required micro surgery the others required a big plaster Getting hit with a saw is like being booted with a pair of steely's.
  9. There not that dangerous I find type c bad in the tree but really bad when your grounding, the weather has been S**t this year but still there has been plenty of days where its stilll too hot to wear them. Maybe I work too hard
  10. Come on its a chainsaw not a nuclear warhead. I've had several cuts in the long distance past with an 020 none from cutting and holding i might add, and I'm still here doing a top job quicker than most
  11. Nice find that Gerald Bonner was one of my old lectures at college:001_smile: Hopefully someone from the HSE actually put a pair of type c's on and did a bit of treework to find out how restrictive and hot they are. (yeah right )
  12. I cut and hold probably 90% of the time but 2 inches is a bit close! If the saw skids along the branch then theres not much time before it will get ya. Having a guess I would say that most of the time I have the saw about 6-9 inches from my hand. Not something I would recomend to a beginner but we all do it (well most) so if you aint sure then atleast start the cut without having your hand anywhere near it, then when the saw is in a bit you can hold the branch. Will help prevent it skidding. Most important though make sure you allways have a nice sharp saw. And make sure you know you can easily hold the branch, It can pull you in towards the saw Anyway thats why God invented the 020
  13. Taken from Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 1996 CHAPTER 53 Might help someone if it starts getting legal. 111 Notice of intention to withhold payment (1) A party to a construction contract may not withhold payment after the final date for payment of a sum due under the contract unless he has given an effective notice of intention to withhold payment. The notice mentioned in section 110(2) may suffice as a notice of intention to withhold payment if it complies with the requirements of this section. (2) To be effective such a notice must specify— (a) the amount proposed to be withheld and the ground for withholding payment, or (b) if there is more than one ground, each ground and the amount attributable to it, and must be given not later than the prescribed period before the final date for payment. (3) The parties are free to agree what that prescribed period is to be. In the absence of such agreement, the period shall be that provided by the Scheme for Construction Contracts. (4) Where an effective notice of intention to withhold payment is given, but on the matter being referred to adjudication it is decided that the whole or part of the amount should be paid, the decision shall be construed as requiring payment not later than— (a) seven days from the date of the decision, or (b) the date which apart from the notice would have been the final date for payment, whichever is the later.
  14. The best thing working outside. The worst thing working outside Or- Standing back and admiring a really nice reducition and listening to some praise from a well pleased customer. Pricing a job to do a proper bit of pruning only to drive past a few weeks later to find some gypo has hacked it to pieces.
  15. Theres nothing wrong with that If your gonna make subbies pay for ALL there mistakes then 1 Tell them up front. 2 Expect them to look at every job and then give you a price for it. 3 Expect some of them to P**s off. You cant expect someone else to take all the risk at a fixed price and you get the profit. Ive worked on both sides of the fence plenty of times and I would never pay for any damage I caused unless I was getting bonus for none damage etc.
  16. Great innit spend, more than 50% of my time removing brash and timber than takening the thing down.
  17. Is that right? Surely the water will dry out and the humus will be a nice environment for plenty of things.
  18. Looks like a good job there but wheres the last pic of the tidy garden
  19. How will it out perform your disk version ones? Will it still be around the same weight and size etc? How did your design/machine compare to the greenmech, timberwolf etc? Sorry for all the questions just interested in what your doing
  20. Is that the one with the easy access to the blades? Was it something like 7" 44hp diesel?
  21. I'll start with £2,500 If the road is really busy then id up it.
  22. You know how the LA send nasty letters out saying "unless you prune you tree back from road, lights, pavement etc or remove dead tree within 14 days we will do it for you then charge approx 5 times the going rate." Well really shouldnt I be within my rights to demand the same rights as the LA? Surely if I use a route either by foot or car that has a ddd tree within the target zone then surely thats a danger to me and the rest of the public and it should be removed. I think i will try this one out the next time i get some poor old dear calling me to prune her dangerous privets back from the footpath.
  23. 700 years old! Must be the last of the ancient oaks. Nice pics pity you didnt have any before shots. Welcome btw
  24. Me being a tight arse would say the cheapest Or something around 40hp diesel
  25. Sounds like a good spec what hp?
