  10. Indeed..your woodland first needs to qualify as to its classification ( ancient, paws, other semi natural etc...) in order to even be considered. If you have any docs relating to the history of the site this will help some. You may get a grant. It is 50% of the costs that are already carefully calculated by the commission and dependent then on the nature of the topography ( ie How much of a problem they consider the site to present.) Consider gettin' a howie ...£1000 a day but itrs a one stop shop???
  11. It certainly doesnt make much sense to suggest that America had no need of tree surgeons b4 the europeans dreampt it up! I wa s jus having a rant; you're probably right man, I am probably overly impressed by the likes of Shigo. IMO probably the singlemost significant contribution to our understanding of the organisms we work with day to day. An American dag nammit!!
  12. You ain't jacking s**t bro....The only thing spot on here is that we none of us really know where we stand for as long as standards are duplicated or divided by national or regional differences. I will argue the toss if I can and if I think what I'm doing is safe. Especially if to not do so means I am forced to adopt new working practices with which Iam not familiar perhaps, opening me up to the dangers of not knowing what the f**k I am doin'...again!
  13. But then you are no longer using work positioning are you..I am tied in with a sap( supplementary anchor point)Two points of attachment
  14. If climbing on both ends of the rope, in the event of an accident you may find that you are not able to reach the ground! Bummer!!!
  15. $96 tho mate..***k that....run for the hills!
  16. Pollarding grew into the understood practice of the repeated removal of regrowth for fuel on common pasture..historically.It was simply designed to be above the browsing height of the livestock that also shared said common . Amusingly, the forestry commission still use the term lopping today....
  17. Just when you thought it was safe to get back into the water...heres a link to a consultation paper on all things TPO that need changing....Cheers for the post Tony. http://www.communities.gov.uk/publications/planningandbuilding/tposconsultation:wave:
  18. If you enjoyed that then this may help fill a few gaps... http://www.caves.org/section/vertical/nh/49/cthsc/cthsc.html:wave:

  20. They would be the first to admit it..infact have they not already done so by seeking to rectify those saddles showing excessive wear....It must be obvious. Please try and take a balanced and sensible view here. Its PPE. I did try and temper my remark with a hope that all will be well in Gotham City once more...I want to see this succeed as much as the rest of you. Sorry if the truth hurts!
  21. You se now I was just starting to think that you made some intelligent remarks about the harness hardware mate when you ruined it by saying that the hardware isues didnt matter, you wre to have one anyway. This is crazy brother...I will not buy substandard equipment and I dont think you should either man...I really do hope the problems get sorted finally b4 it all gets very Mickey Mouse.
  22. damn thats one ugly tree !
  23. Actually what I mean here is that the trees TPO status should not exempt it from being worked on...which they dont with an applicaton and so on. What I think must then be assumed by a councils overiding decision as to the need for work/removal is the responsibility that must surely come from passing said ruling....
  24. A tree that hangs up is suspended in the crown of a neighbouring tree. This is a one set of problems. Once successfuly on the floor the dynamic is altered...you can relax now..... Heres a tip...keep your comments in the right thread....! Hazard /Risk assessment....maybe the beginnings of a workshop....?
  25. Hazard and risk..both quantifiable elements in our line of work.Sometimes identifiable only but certainly a dynamic force in real time capable and in need therefore of continual assessment
