  1. I agree in this case John....but where were your earmuffs and visor mate?
  2. Expected lifespan of an urban tree...est @ 30 yrs...fell and replant. Councils are too busy spending money on courses for mewps which no-one wants to have cash to invest on soil treatments and pruning that may provide some enlightening facts and advance our urban management strategies....
  3. Whats the real gain tho buddy?
  4. yeah..wrong thread for the ol' mewp.
  5. I believe a mewp can be safer ...it all really depends somehow. The way I see it, the mewp is another tool at our disposal and I may chose to deploy one where necessary....It all come round to the ol' chestnut....gettin a ticket doesnt make you an expert...practice and experience will....Training in the use of mewp's is a complicated maze of categories...... Oh...and I rarely if ever use my top handle with one hand...dont like to see it!
  6. ganoderma can take a longtime to get established...the test was employed effectively.....
  7. Yeah..good. Cos without gettin'too up my own arse here...they can be broadly categorised as soft, whites and brown rots. I know its a lot more complicated in reality..the value of a field guide or good reference is essential really IMO.l

  15. I'm not a fan of Marlow..... I think there are more user friendly ropes too and I dont splice. Used Salamander for 6 months and into the bin..Manu rec lifespan....it was showing signs of wear..real wear and not from abuse I tells ya'....
  16. Thats what Im talking about....!
  17. Yeah I gotta say I find the whole thing quite interesting. Very much with its feet in the world of mechanical engineering and load/lever calculations. Not always as immediately obvious as you might think. I would be interested to know if there are any courses that address the principles and methods of the science. A current best practice....
  18. Crown support and propping methods. Reasons for using the techniques.Pointers on the purposes of using bracing, maybe include a brief history of the technique to highlight the reasons to employ it. The dos and donts and methods of calculating angles, strengths required, inspection intervals and such...
  19. Leave it out mate, thats the second time 2nite ...!
  20. They callin it triple braid then eh? I settled for a knot on Fly...!
  21. Yeah..there is a whole platform of saws for hand cutting from fold aways to huge panel stylie numbers for massive limbs( well for a hand job) Im sure you have all seen the thing Im talking about. I know at least stihl do one. For small, fine work, the Silky Prosentei is a good bet with a section of fine teeth to allow the cutter to work the fiddlier or more flexible wood . The fine teeth set into the tip for access.
  22. Thats the one matey....!
  23. Looks a bit like New England Fly if you ask me!!
  24. Can be a good thing as it wont tend to stab quite as effectively Zubat 330 has a curved blade and we want our student to learn the principles of felling cuts with a hand saw..jus a thouhjt?
