  1. I really cant see anybody being able to make that one stick mate>>>>
  2. Not really mate as you have intimated previously.they havt got the....dosh to spend on educating dumb arse builders...ooopps We got into this as a way of advising Brownie vis a vis working the trees. Be careful you arent a pawn in some power game bs**
  3. Of course they would Pete. But the point is you need to go to court and argue the toss with folk that essentially know even less than that....Expert witness is fast becoming jus that. A difference of opinion is just that. By presenting a report to a council of the condition of a tree with TPO is just that. Your opinion alone will not hurt the guy!! The condition of the tree is most likely not a contestable issue. Whats important is the councils wilful neglect in not responding to warnings from members within their own industry. actually I'm not sure that by preparing a report on the condition of a tree and on finding and recommending removal, you dont set yourself up as culpable.
  4. I think greedy developers need taking to task here if it can be shown that they have simply neglected the conditions of planning consent.....3 heavy standards /....that told them!!
  5. Strict Liability !!! Essentially councils can and should not order TPO status if they cant be held accountable for the conditions. My motor gets an MOT once a year..not much use on any other day of the year 'cept the one on which it was issued. IMO.
  6. .......mmmmmmm.....>>>
  7. No. but neither by the same token do you expect a lousy tree with its roots all cut away to be slapped up side the head with a TPO
  8. Liability means just that...Especially if a tree is covered by an order from the council...If a tree with a TPO in place fails and the council have not been given their five days notice...so what...As a condition of the tpo the trees are inspected to maintain their regal status...councils are already failing in their duty of care to allow things to get that bad
  9. Just dont work on them before your sure the all clears been given. It seems that a conflict over care of duty may arise. Dont work them without learning their current status. An LPA or tree officer may try and rush a TPO if they are afraid that davelopers have ignored the status of the trees which will have been detailed in the planning consent...this does happen asnd is the knee jerk reaction of councils who are abused. You could find yourself the unwitting victim of expedience. When advised above that the planning consent status does not concern you...it does and it should be adhered to..You sre being asked to cut your own throat?!
  10. Dont do it period.....
  11. I hate that stupid oval adjuster on my Geckos its poorly positioned and the velcro does'nt sit right, thats only a minor niggle. Try going wrap around style over the shank the way Frans shows us in the pics...dont use the oval loop atall. (They are next to useless ) I dont wear mine that tight anymore but started wrapping direct around the shank cos the straps kept bunching and riding a bit using loops and it makes for easier fitting especially if you put your spikes on once up the tree.
  12. I assume you are referring to the amenity value of those beautiful oak stumps with regrowth like a dogs arse I shouldnt wonder....I thinl maybe you should only kill a tree once...
  13. Yeah...the effect of propping will reduce the flexibility of the limbs...obviously or it wouldnt help...but to make them overly rigid can introduce immeasurable forces .The system you have described would seem to be designed at addressing this built in weakness allowing some give whilst supporting weight. The other solution is a prop of a calculated strength ie a measured failure rate...but this is not as good! Liquid cooll.......
  14. ...mmmmm!.........
  15. Should be a matter of routine for us to practice aerial rescue in the work place..interval unknown....
  16. Just google samson rope..yale and so on..you are sure to get the hits you need.
  17. Bundle 2

    Knives.

An orange Petzl..is it called "Spada "..at ALL times...figure it is quite handy on account of being small...cant imagine a silky waving around me in an emergency....sorry Pete!
  18. Some of the sh*t I ended up climbing on the railways was evil ...so damn compromised in the stem you'd wonder what you doin' up there..oftentimes I would anchor in a neighbouring tree for obvious reasons...It didnt take me long to learn that and amen to that brother!! Encouraging market for the timber is helpful.
  19. The point here is perhaps that we really are discussing the use of equipment that is familiar to us...If it has been passed for use in the uk /europe, happens to be the same tool manufactured in US for example. it becomes an issue of minutiae.I bounce the ball back to the manufacturers..we need universal standards if we are to avoid becoming victims of individual inspectors likes/dislikes or interpretation of regs... Rule of thumb..FIT FOR PURPOSE The fact remains that I believe the USA drives arboriculture..I'm not saying I like it but that seems to be the way of thngs. It was born there and developed in a large part. Europe has a different set of rules and compatability .Manufacturing has always been a global thing..never more so that china now wants to play with the big boys. It is a testament to Stihl's ingenuity and resourcefulness imo that they maintain a small number of manufacturing plants in and around the world, successfully bridging the platforms of conformity to sell their product worldwide...Quality The point here is that I would not resubmit a tool for recertification if the loler/hse had a problem. I'd ask they doit and prove beyond doubt that the original classification ( theirs) falls victim to double standards......mmmmmmmm......
  20. I work on a site with 85-100 acres of woodland ( c 1790) Alot of this has degenerated into sycamore...but to say it supports no wildlife is misleading.Wildlife is represented here with some significant presence. OK, you can argue the weed status..it will eventually over run the mature beech and oak to name a few, dramatically changing the makeup of the site. I am not a great fan of these trees. I f you read my previous post, I can see their value in some cases. The woodland supports great numbers of wildlife IN CONJUNCTION with other species. In fact squirrel damage for example is almost entirely restricted to the syckkies...Works for the moment!!!!
  21. That spade takes no prisoners...I gotta wonder tho' how the arborist manages to keep the transplant upright. I mean thats a mean tree already. Shear factors must be an issue here but I would have to think about how to maintain the trees attitude....I'll huff and I'll puff ...the rest is as they say..... Enjoyed the thread.
  22. Phytophthora ramorum./.kernoviae RFS quaterly journal vol 101 no 3 july2007 pg 187 yes it can lead to infection of broadleaves from rhodedendron
  23. No... you want to bend down, peer at the top of the tree between your legs. When you can just see the top of the tree between your bollox, you are the same distance from the tree as it is high...hi....>>>
  24. And you bin cuttin' yoself, smearing petroleum based products with added ptfe in the wounda yeah??!!!
