  1. Husk what? Betamax!
  2. 10 years old! The chip must be about 66mhz. As Masterblaster points out, when you get even a cheap new PC it will take your head off. Surely your not using it for this forum, or you wouldn't be posting.
  3. If theres power and its not going on, then it could be the video card. it may well be on and you don't know it. If the hard drive isn't booting it maybe a deadun. You would have to have some data recovery which is expensive. Do PC world really do that service for £29.99? I guess thats when the computer is working well enough to find the files. PCs are as cheap as chips at the moment. In future back up and chuck it in the bin. I'm getting anew power mac next week. My PCs are looking scared.
  4. Obviously no names here. At one point all our ground crew were CS38 holders. We used to do practice sessions. About a month after 3 of them qualified we did a practice in 3 40ft oaks. Not one of them managed to get the victims down in less than 45 mins. For this and other reasons, I have very little faith in the NPTC system. IMO it should be a legal requirement that aerial rescue personnel should undergo testing and retraining at least once a year. I'm agreat believer in not getting overly tied up in methods. If someones dying, last thing you need is the newbie groundcrew panicking about which rope to use. It has to almost be an unconscious act. I guess that means lots of practice. But how many employers will see it as an investment in the workforce as opposed to a loss in income?
  5. Wow! That's verging on pornography. If anyone (63 others)wants to go 1/64th of a share with me, I'd be most happy to time share.
  6. What paints are ok to use on the vertex?
  7. It's the Viking chatter i can't stand. The mess it makes of cherries. better off with a big norse hammer.
  8. it's late, don't you all have 200ft monsters to scale in a few hours?
  9.
  10. From you, that's worrying
  11. looking at the vote, I'm reminded of resevoir dogs.
  12. Hades or Valhalla more like. Pain in the ars*. Great idea with a poor execution. sorry troll like explosion.
  13. Forum exposure paying dividends here chaps, thanks very much. Will try all of the above.
  14. Thanks all. I'll try some 9mm but dont want to go up to 10 as i think it will slip on the newer rope. I use a bag and flake it in. Never ever do I coil my ropes. Does this happen to anyone else, or like dogs looking like their owners; my rope is reflecting my personality. Might be (jumping threads) better than the drug tests in exposing stoners.
  15. two threads are converging.
  16. I use three ropes of different lengths, all XTC. They run through a Petzl p50 with 8mm cord onto a wide ball lock. 4 wraps 3 turns On the newer rope ans 3 of each on the older as it has more friction. The memory thing is interesting, but my long rope is pretty new. maybe it has a good memory?
  17. I've been using a VT for about 3 years now but it creates a massive amount of kink in the rope. does anyone have a solution to this?
  18. to open the ton bag, stick your ar*e in it and your feet into two of the top corners so it opens sideways, what was the side is now the top over your back. Then push the sticks etc in like a dog digging a hole. you will look stupid but it works very well.
  19. getting around of applause from the girls at the back of the `gentleman's club' after topping out an 80ft ash. testosterone through the roof. That and flask tea.
  20. Are you suggesting Jamie was not telling the truth? That's outrageous!
  21. Mewps are used by my firm when they are necessary. If the tree is unsafe to climb or if tradition access is inconvenient, or simply not quick enough, then they are a very useful tool. But I'm with you on preferring trad access. Look at pecontools avatar. Health and safety rules aside, it's pretty damm obvious that every climber should have someone capable of getting them down when or if the situation occurs. Saving a climbers life is all that is important. The law should not be our motivation. It should be common sense. I haven't climbed without a climbing groundie for 8 years.
  22. The term is used in popular culture to show enthusiasm. Its the abruptness of it, the puppy wanting more now!, that makes it an appealing or humorous question. But yes, to the uninitiated, it might seem overly minimalist. sorry for confusion. Long winded effort next time.
  23. Surreal post that Jamie. Are you on class A bugs?
  24. we're good at this in the UK. I agree, looks like a whole lot of FYM. IMO (ooh I used it!)
