  1. chance makes it more beutiful and precious.
  2. The dodging is very true, but equally the testing would be woefully inacurate and unfair. The only way to police it will be by not working with or employing `stoned' people as opposed to people who smoke in down time.
  3. You rock apes are as fit as butchers dogs. I occasionally work along side an ex para who is also in his 40's, he came to the industry late but he's effin good. II squadron it is then.
  4. Only if it comes from peace and Only if it solicits peace. I do hope the peace message is visible here.
  5. Translation of the Koran can yield as much violence as any translation of any ancient religious text. where in the Tanakh does it say bulldozer peoples houses and kill Innocent Palestinians? Where in the bible does it say make war on Islam? the answer if you are fundamentalist enough is`everywhere!' Muslims are people of love on the whole, of charity, If a small minority believe in acts of aggression, they are not backwards in coming forward about it, they do not hide their hate, in some ways this fundamentalism is very honest. Peace
  6. Are you proud of your beliefs or your actions? Which is more important to God, the planet, the peoples of earth? My local vicar once said that "belief in god with out actions is to worship the devil". That's why Mother Teresa did what she did.
  7. The same accusations are levelled at People who believe in Faries, ufo's and lizards ruling the earth.
  8. That is a very profound question. The answer to which I am very happy to say is, I don't know.
  9. Should that be`two squadron'?
  10. His name was Mark, from Essex, He was the cherry picker operator we used today. Last name escaped me. Nice bloke. Rock ape through and through. He loved it. 2nd Squadron, Sierra Leone 2001, Kosovo 99.
  11. The first half of this makes an important point about perceptions, the last half gets a bit silly although the point is probably good. [ame] [/ame]
  12. I think the numbers are because the muslim faith is very convincing, it has resonance in modern life for a great number of its followers. Because it is a bigger part of their lives than modern Christianity is for Christians. IMO For Muslims, their faith is greater than a religion, it is their entire existence. I think their maybe some coercion particularly in other countries, but I think they would not be so dedicated if force was involved. The faith would crumble if they did not believe. Look at Christianity.
  13. You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing. What have you lost? Nothing!
  14. Theres alot of ex servicemen in the industry isn't there. Many are on this forum too. I work with afew and today met someone from the RAF regiment. Tree surgery must be attractive to you guys. What do you think is the reason for this? The tales I get at work are full of really exciting stuff.
  15. Hi Dean, I think you have hit the nail on the head there. The reason that Mosques are increasing in number (and lets remember that houses can be converted to mosques, which accounts for a great number of them) is because Muslims are avery dedicated faith. They need a place to worship, Theres a lot of them percentage wise who pray 5 times day hence the need for mosques. Christians by your own admission don't attend as often as they should. I think your family's attendance record is very typical of Christian faiths. On a wider note, in these uncertain times it is usual to scapegoat the things we don't understand. All terrorists all persuasions should be treated with the same disdain. To only pick up on one thread of violence is to make a statement about something other than terrorism, like faith or race. Terrorism is an act of violence. The logical termination of hate. hate is prevalent every where. Including on this Forum. Hate will not cure the world's ills. Compassion, love, peace and understanding will. Those that believe that because they do its ok for us to do have fallen into the eye for an eye trap. An eye for an eye and soon the whole world will be blind. As the great Buddhist Yoda once said "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” FTR. I'm a militant atheist.
  16. Blinking heck! Seems stupid to say you were lucky as you plainly weren't. But good job the saw missed all those bits. Good appraisal of the reasons why too. As climbers of all abilities we have to reject any pressures to speed the work up. Go at your own pace. Speed will come with experience. I am guilty of going hell for leather too at times.
  17. He makes some valid yet obvious points IMO. BUT he makes some very bigoted ones too. Particularly about the mosque. Is Westminster abbey a massive faith based building? I wouldn't want to say no to British Muslims when the apathetic Christians of London have such a huge building already. Unlike the man in the film I don't fear Muslims. I do fear hatred, violence and terrorism. these things belong to all faiths and all races, and to some extent to a greater degree. The SAS were training the Khmer People's National Liberation Armed Forces how to plant land mines in paddy fields to have the greatest effect on the population. That's terrorism right there, sanctioned by the British government. The terrorism of Tony Blair in the former Yugoslavia and Iraq is well documented. I could go on but the point is made. this man should be campaigning for peace and love not encouraging the divisions that already exist. He's no doubt a member of UKIP or the BNP a Daily mail reader. please ignore his polarized tabloid politics.
  18. If the obvious is so free of quality, what must the rest of your LA's work be like? I'd send them to the CE of said council. Maybe you could get the contract next time round and not the out of work plasterers.
  19. We met up at christmas for booze and consequently all verbal information was lost in the aftermath. Bugger wont reply to emails either.
  20. Taken from a moving quad with a VR lens. but yes the quad fell chasm like into the photo opportunity abyss.
  21. And some more. the Oak coppice is apparently 1200 years old! what a change it makes to working on housing estates over greenhouses and burnt out cortinas.
  22. Here are the last days of my work in Hatfield forest.
  23. I suggested to someone I know in SO19, that officers should have a dedicated secretery for every two officers, linked via broadband and other technology to deal with paperwork. he said CASH!He also said I watched too much 24.
  24. Probably the best destination for the emigrating Brit. Outstanding countryside. The south island in particular is amazing. Get yourself involved in a skulling competition in a bar at the end of shearing season, it's like the wild west. Kiwis are really genuine people and I've a lot of time for them. I have a friend over there in Christchurch working for a tree firm, I think he finds it less progressive in its H&S and work practices. Once again like the wild west.
