  1. The best climbers wear red. Ha:wave: Im sure there'l be some comments on that one.
  2. :icon14:Cracking saw, i have one, £80.00's good price. Bit heavy but good for use on the floor.
  3. Its the hi flex for me, they've a little bit of elastic but i wear a belt with them. SIP are pretty good too.
  4. You can get some A holes in most jobs, just looking for something to get you with. Personally i hate mewps, think there worse thing out there, think roped to a tree is safer, that way at least your away from the piece that your cutting.
  5. Cheers. That cleared it up alot, i can understand why you shouldnt climb without someone there able to rescue you, one of the lads i have with me can climb, he just hasnt got the paper to prove it. Probley just better idea to throw him in for a assesment, and have done with it. Just, i got told that information the other day, and im in the middle of finishing a job. I S*** myself when i heard it.
  6. If you climb for a living, like most of us do, then you must have someone who is competant and qualified to have his 'tree climbing and aerial rescue' ticket. There are 3 of us in my team, and i am the only one who has all the relevant qualifications to climb and use the saw in a tree, but the lad's i have working for me only has there cs30/31. I was told that if i am climbing with a groundsman who cant climb and the hse catch you, then they can and most proberbly take your equipment from you to make sure you dont climb again. Being only 3 months into starting off on my own i find this a bit worrying. Is this true? Any help would be appericated on this.
  7. :icon14:Cheers, i'll have a word.
  8. Thats evil. ha. Keep em out though.
  9. Does anyone know where i could get some warning signs made up, not the big metal signs or the folding ones. There made of plastic, cant be arsed with my signs being pinched all the time, especially my 6 month old fold up signs.
  10. Does anyone know of any inspectors in north wales or the mid wales area's?
  11. Think a snap hook is bit bulky, myself i use a 3mtr length of yale xtc with a splice which i nicked with a saw. Dont you think 5mtr is a bit much, rekkon it'll just get in the way,but does depened on what you want. I've never had any problems with 3mtr and if i've needed anymore lengh i've always used the other end of my climbing line.
  12. They still teach using the prussik on your main line and the other end of your climbing line as a strope / re-direct but there are some many more friction hitches now which can make life alot easyier.
  13. Cant complain with jonsie's price. Should be getting mine from him this week.
  14. :)Belt for me. I know one guy who wares both.
  15. Big A, It is professional or its not. Sorry just dont understand your reply with the company is still going?
  16. I like your website, nice and simple. Who did yours for you?
  17. Yer your probley right on that, never realised how much hard work it is just advertising yourself. Suppose what i did different though when i did my flyers was, i took the time to have business cards printed and also had a landline number. And wrote a introductory letter saying who i was and from where. I think i'll do yellow pages first then go from there like you said. Cheers Steve
  18. Dont do it in mid wales, but what im thinking of doing is, a sponsered climb, find the biggest tree and climb it for charity, get the local pres involved. Free Advertising of your company for free. It worked for a friend of mine. Good luck mate.
  19. I did the same, got some work that way, but people seem to slag that idea off! Read it on a couple of other tree surgeons web sites saying that people who, do, do that arent the real thing. Doesnt really help people who are fully qualified to do the work, to get there business started.
  20. I'd like a web site but not sure which to do really, yellow pages or web site? Im just staring out on my own doing aborticulture. I was with a landscape company who did some trees when needed but was very vare, and have cs31,32,34,35,38,39 and have a National Diploma in landscape studies, not bigging myself up in anyway. Thing i dont understand is i read on one website that people who post flyers to advertise themselfs in this kind of work are not qualified to do the work. Sorry it just relly winds me up how people can turn round and say this. Just makes it harder for me to try and get off the ground. Bit off the subject so sorry about that.
  21. The week i did my coarse, we had four different brands of harness, the Skylotec Kolibri, which looks good but the leg loops werent very comfortable for me, the Willans T22 which i just didnt like to bulky, the Komet Butterfly which was good but again the leg loops werent very comfortable and the Komet Dragonfly which i stuck with because, it was comfortable for me and found the seat was very comfortable.
  22. 45m, i agree. you need your rope reaching the ground, what if your hurt and you need to get yourself down quickly if you can that is.
