  1. Not sure ifthe archos is particularly weatherproof either. There are some pretty good cheap units out there if you only want to upload to utube, but for burning dvd quality they get expensive. BTW Steve you mentioned sending one back after a day, was it really bad? I did look at that one before getting the POV.
  2. Anyone tried the 280i? my dealler was realy trying hard to sel me one the other day, any good? I think it has a Husqvarna XP type air intake.
  3. Thanks, I always cut like that and trim the stub after, with the larger limbs I get more control as they don't hang on and flip over sending the butt away from the stem. With the smaller ones I could just cut them straight off I suppose, maybe its a hang-up from pruning.
  4. It was in Penicuick AJ. Excuse me for being thick but what are MA and FSOL Rich? Oh and it had Heterobasidion
  5. I use windows movie maker to edit the video on mine so you may be able to do that if you have it.
  6. Looking forward to your next video.
  7. Thanks Reg, the two stems over the road and the drive were rigged to avoid damaging the tarmac, the other two were just dropped on to the area up the slope a bit. We had cleared two yew trees and some laurels of there earlier so the ground was bare.
  8. This is the video of the hemlock I posted in the picture thread, Some of the rigging footage was missed unfortunately but I did get some from the ground while Andrew was climbing. [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta69XnNYPnI[/ame]
  9. Nice work Tim. How do you shift the wood?
  10. Water in wounds is actually not a bad thing, the debris which collects in the little ponds creates an anerbic environment which can help to exclude many pathogens. Probably best to probe the cavities and see how extensive any rot is.
  11. Nice video Steve, you're right about the buttresses IMO. BTW my book has beech at 900ish Kg per cube so at 8.8 cube it must be about 7 ton.
  12. I don't know if its worth the space on your server Steve, I'm getting better with it but there's a lot to think about while you're really trying to do your job. I really wanted to get pictures from the ground as well as the helmet cam, so on this one while I rigged down the first stem a groundie was filming with a digital camera, but the video file was corrupted on the pov and the groundie turned the camera on its side so the pictures the wrong way up. I think we're better at tree work than film making.
  13. Its a POV Steve, I'd definataly recommend it, very pleased with it, although I have lost a couple of clips recently due to corupted files, I dont know why it happens. Overall its very good, the quality is excellent if you burn a dvd, on you tube its pants though. My missus sugested that i make a short vid of each job ans send it to the client with the invoice as an advertising tool quite a good idea for the bigger jobs I thought, I don't know if it would work but it might help you justify buying one:001_smile: Go on , you know you want to. Ps. the people at Dog Cam Sports were really helpful.
  14. Yeah, currently editing a short vid of the job, takes a while, Might post it tonight if the missus lets me stay on the pc:001_smile:
  15. We took this hemlock down this week, here's a few pics. It was a really interesting tree; four equal sised stems rising from a single stump, originaly part of a pair, unfortunately when the other one was felled about 10 years ago Heterobasidion set in on the stump and has spread to this one. It was a great tree to climb and gave some great views of Penicuick.
  16. As long as they're done regularly and their condition is monitored there's no problem,, except the way they look:001_smile:

    Sad News

Its always horrible to read about stuff like this, It must be terrible for his friends and family. If Lee or anyone else in the area finds out what happened please post the details, perhaps future accidents can be prevented, and some small good can be taken from something so bad.

    was this you

As an employee I'm sure it was a great laugh, as an employer its a nightmare, H+S would immediately go through everything with a fine toothed comb: have they bee properly trained in the use of that equipment? If not the employer would have been liable and could have been fined. Thing is though I bet as employees we've all done stuff like that. There's no way I'd have trusted my workmates enough to do that, the hedge ducking was inevitable LOL.
  20. Great vid, I wonder why they did'nt just fell it though.
  21. What type / size of flail / tractor have you got badger? I have a valliant 500 and was thinking of getting a flail.
  22. Can you get a dongle for the printer?
  23. Just go wireless, Steve, we recently got a new cordless phone with three handsets, the main base gets pluged into the phone socket, the other two bases just need a mains plug to charge the handsets. Our internet is wirless too that came with the broadband, the phones were about £70.
  24. I dont know if you'be seen this before but In light of all the security related threads on here its worth posting. Still amazes me. [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nP6SKDppwes[/ame] I reckon it'll cost big£££££
