  1. Many modern harnesses have extra attachment points for this purpose, giving the stability of side d's and the comfort and safety of the main d. Some other harnesses can be adapted for the same purpose. I was told not to choker with the lanyard but to attach both ends to your main d. I'm not sure the reason for this.
  2. I think the mini catcher is a bit ott on a landy, and the price.
  3. Was that just off meadowbank? I'd love to see the risk assesment.
  4. You're both right, when empty the back wheels would go 4 foot in the air under heavy braking, and when full you could only turn the wheel when moving. Awesome chipper though.
  5. I us my wirecore for everything too, but its the comet one and its way softer than most of the others out there. And way more expensive. https://www.gustharts.com/Products/Arborist%20Equipment/Arborist%20Climbing%20Equipment/Strops%20%26%20Lanyards/Product/Komet%20Flipline%20with%20Rocker/ I dont have the rocker so it was'nt that much!!
  6. Before that one they had a 1000, and true, that was narrower by some margin.
  7. This is said mog Trust me, not the most manouverable thing I've driven.
  8. The mog I used to drive was at least a foot wider than a landy. Dunno about a 7.5 tonner though. Mind you Dean I've rammed my ldv up a few chip piles in the past, its just a question of momentum.... and a couple of broken number plates.
  9. Muppet. Done it a few times myself, such a ragged cut they dont heal that well. As a tip keep it covered way longer than you think you need to. Getting dirt and crap in it slows healing right down. The old addage of "getting the air to it" is an old wives tale. Wrap it in insulating tape and you can still work.
  10. Better be light with the right foot Steve, driving the navara is going to feel like time travel after the LDV.
  11. Brilliant, I wonder if any of that stuff made it over here. Men were men in them days, I loved the topping out.
  12. 110 hard top and an LDV pickup and the wife has an Audi a4. I do need the 4x4 though. BTW Steve if you're going down the 4x4 route and getting a trailer look carefuly at the towing weights because these days many of them are pathetic. Which is how I ended up with a defender. I'd get this:001_smile: http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/LAND+ROVER+RANGE+ROVER/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146-236,N-51-172-240-4294967209-4294967210/advert.action?R=200851325697313&distance=178&postcode=td135yr&channel=CARS&make=LAND+ROVER&model=RANGE+ROVER&min_pr=&max_pr=15000&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=2003&vehicleRegLetter=53
  13. Thanks, looks good, do you have a dedicated srt rope or just use your regular line?
  14. Got any close up pics of your setup blakes?
  15. Recently word of mouth and the web have been working for me, neither of which really cost anything. I looked at a job on thursday, we had worked there 2 years ago, he still had the business card I gave him back then. If I see the client at the end of a job I always give them a few cards to pass on to friends and neighbours and keep for next time. I am now thinking that I might start sending them out with the invoices too.
  16. Cut round all the stems as you say, then fence the area off and introduce a few sheep, they'll eat the lot. Wether this does them any good I can't say but they will eat it. Just looking on the net, it is poinenous to cattle when eaten in bulk, so probably not good for sheep either, shame cos they love it.
  17. I reckon the vented bags are goung to work really well, the wind really seems to get through them, we've only managed to fill 40 odd so far but I'm confident that they're the way to go.
  18. Got a friend with a canter, good engine, poor gearbox, poor economy, but the worst thing is it weighs 3 ton empty.
  19. My mate does one month a year for tradmastarna, he says that its hard work but a good laugh and if you go in the winter the days are very short. Your tickets are probably a plus and showing certs could only help get a foot in the door.
  20. This is Illegal, you should be covered by his employers liability anyway. Tell him where to go!!
  21. I know he's tied in twice but using the side d's when felling tops out is bad practice as if the top tears as it goes your strop / lanyard and climbing line pulls tight. This is ok on the climbing line as the loop in your line runs round the stem only and as it is attached to your bridge and will simply pull you closer to the stem. With the side d's however the loop rund behind your back meaning you are inside it; therefore if a top tears and then hangs you will be quickly asphyixiated by the pressure on your diaphragm. This is an uncommon occourance and we all fell like that at times I'm sure, but it has killed quite a few guys in the us and canada when felling tops out in the forests there, and I was taught to attach the lanyard to the bridge for topping out.
  22. The picture (figure 2) appears to show someone felling a top out whilst anchored in with the side d's not the bridge. Current best practise? Discuss.
