I think you should ask the question, why do people attend these shows anyway? For me its only 30% about kit and equipment (sorry justin) and 70% about meeting friends and having a drink with people I'll only see a couple of times a year. I think from reading this thread others have the same priorities. With that in mind I think a more central location would be better, since the AA is a national organisation I think it should reflect that with a central location, or alternate between north and south. Or even dare I say it; scotland.

i'd climb for £3 ph before tesco's at £20ph. I know that there are bills and stuff and I have a kid, but I hava had many diferent jobs over the years, some I liked some I didn't. I even worked in the city for a year, made good money too, but my heart wasn't in it. You only get one life, and its way too short to waste it in a dead end job you hate, Brodie, I think that for you arb is a dead end job, because the day you stop enjoying it is the day you should quit. Everyone would like more money but the love of the job outweighs the crap money, if it doesn't then get out.

You've hit the nail on the head there, supply and demand. This is a great job, so lots of people want to do it, therefore wages are low.

I took some rubbish to the council skip today, I was delivering logs and I chucked a couple of our old sash windows and our old fridge freezer on top. When I got to the skip there was no one around, (our town dumps have recently been re-furbished and now have about three skips and a place for fridges) I went into the office where there were 4 guys sitting around drinking tea. I asked where I should put a fridge and some old windows, I was told I couldn't dump as I was a commercial vehicle, I was prepared for this and dug my heels in. I was a tree surgeon dumping a fridge after all. so they said I would have to fill in a form and could be subject to a huge fine. So now I could dump my stuff, one of the guys managed to ease himself off his chair and come outside to help. "the windows go in that one and the fridge goes round the corner" he said. " Ok i'll pass the windows down to you" I said. He laughed in my face saying "I'm not lifting anything" and walked back inside, he seemed really surprised that I expected him to help. so I had to do it all by myself. Why it takes 4 men to run a re-cycling facility that serves a town of 2500 people is a mystery, they probably get 30 cars a day.

If your guestimate of the size is correct you're looking at 6.5 ton. so allowing for a wee bit of taper say 5.5-6ton.

It does make you wonder how you'd react given the circumstances, a few points; they could not be ordered to do anything, being unarmed as they were, so any action they did take would have to be off their own bat. They will have to live with the decisions they made. Its also worth noting that in an area like that the nearest armed response would have been miles away. I reckon my nearest will be at least 40 miles.

i have finally decided to get one, having used the silky one with the 4 extension handle, I was just wonderind wether there is anything else on the market worth considering. we do not to powerline work so its really just down to performance and ease of use, are the fibre glass ones worth considering?

its 67cm eye to eye, I like to tie the first half doubble fishermans and then theother slightyy short, then load it and get them to settle down before cutting off the waste. 65-70 cm would be about right. Yes my rope does twist. you just need to climb some big trees to let it unwind.

You'd need to ask stevie really, I have relatives in bingley and wetwang so can stay over a night to break up journey. but if i am traveling with mr blair maybe he won't want to saty at my mums lol.

why not make it the day before or after jonsies show, then us traveling down can break up the journey with a yorkshire stopover.

I see now, found a pic, its not the same as what I have been using. At the end of the day all hitches are pretty similar variations on a theme, the XT is a new one on me, although its halfway between what i did and a vt. I would imagine it works pretty similar to what I have been trying.
