:thumbup:Stickers are good for putting on your helmet. Especially to cover up a hole in the top of helmet where maybe 1 day you take a fit of rage and drop kick it 100yds!

Just done mine 2 weeks ago. An operatives card is what you require not a visitors, don't bother wasting your time with sample questions or revising. 40 Simple multi-choice questions to be answered in 40 mins, only need 35 out of 40 to pass. I just winged it and passed with 34mins still left on timer. £17 to sit test and £20 for card(robbing g*ts). You def need the card as it will have your number on it, as long as you can provide the number then its checkable.

I got 5000 flyers printed for £98, only posted around 200 so far to selective houses with trees and hedges on property. Have had 12 jobs from flyers, first job more than paid for flyers and 4 jobs are returning work for next year. You are not being forceful by posting flyers, its not like your knocking on the door telling people what work needs doing to their trees(like gypos do). Your giving people the option to read it or chuck it in the bin.

The protector pro's and trekker mountain are basically the same boot but trekker is shorter. Both a great solid boot that will last, will keep you feet dry even if you are wading about in wet ground all day. If you like the feel of walking in rigid ski boots then go for the protector pro's but trekkers give you far better movement and are better for climbing in. I was given a pair of protector pro's from a company i used to work for, after a few days I threw them in the garage and put my own trekkers back on.

My old man got a Legacy Outback boxer diesel as soon as they were on sale. Very good car, plenty of grunt and far more efficient than the petrol equivalent, nice lay out inside and acres of boot space. Only problem is they no longer have a high/low gear ratio which came in handy when driving in snow or boggy ground. I have a old x reg Legacy 2.5 petrol which drinks petrol faster than a winno! but its comfortable, still looks good, and can fit a 5 aside football pitch in the back and also has a hi/lo gear ratio which is fantastic at going up hills in deep snow. Only problem is the clutch went a couple of months ago and could not be bothered to get it fixed so it is now in garage with half the garage contents sitting on top of it and SORN'd.

An Army deployment bag is what you want. Far better than anything else that is listed for sale as a climbers kit bag. I've had the same one for over 5 years and it has not a hole, burst stitch or broken zip on it. I use a file when i'm out on a job away from the vehicle, but now and again (when I can) I will use my Dremel 8000 cordless i-on with the chainsaw adapter to sharpen my chains. It is far better than a chainsaw grinder as you do not have to take the chain off the saw and you do not remove as much as you would with the grinder or file. With a file you will find that it does leave a slight serrated edge and burring, this causes the cutting edge to splinter and dull quicker. With the Dremel the secret is to just rest the grinding stone on the tooth and not put pressure on it as this burns the cutting edge causing it to become brittle, after just a couple of seconds of grinding you will have a super smooth mirror like edge with no burring. If any of you use hedge clippers and find them time consuming to sharpen you can use the mower blade adapter. Just unbolt blades pop them into a vice, the adapter is set to the optimum cutting angle so each edge should be at the identical pitch. should not take more than 10mins.

If you have not done it before then you may as well give it a go, at least you can add it to your experience. If you are quiet at the mo and they can guarantee you a lengthy period of work then it may work for you. Some guys that I used to work with on railways have went back to the woods to do brashing and first thinings, cause they thought rail work was that bad!

Its an experience at least! Are you hoping to do sub-contracting work or be taken on by a company, if they get the contract?

Pts ticket lasts for 2 years! and then would only need to sit a 1 day refresher course. Is it Tree/Vegetation work? Personally....I would never go back to rail work after 5+ years of doing everything from Tree work, track maintenance and engineering work, its all crap! Split shifts, night shifts, full weekend working, working on steep bankings and cuttings, scrambling about on ballast, its got the lot. Enjoy.

Work for nothing just because, A) you're inexperienced? NO, just because you have started out in the Forestryt/Arb world it does not mean that you should work for nowt just to gain experience. A flat rate should be given then if you do a good job extra should be added. Do not entertain the people who can get a weeks work out of you for peanuts(unless you are a monkey). B)The job satisfaction? NO, A Hedge is a hedge, a Tree is a tree, a Job is a job! We need to make money whatever the circumstances. I do not see how doing free jobs for people gets your business running if they pass info to other people stating that you done their job for nothing! You only get known as the guy who will do jobs for next to nowt! It aint challenge Anneka.(if you know what i mean). My next door neighbour is a brickie, i never hear of him talking about hooking up with other brickies on a saturday just to go and build a wall for the hell of it, why do people do Arb work on trees other than for money? Mind you, i've never got a boner for looking at a tree and thinking i'll climb it for the challenge! (some people do). It is no wonder that it is one of the lowest paid skilled trades. It is a small industry full of people willing to do work for nothing. Negotiate a competative rate, show willing and work hard, do not be afraid to ask for advice.

Have you tried Ian Hall at M and H Tree Services, Canonbie. I'm sure he has got a tractor and trailer forwarder not doing much at mo. Is your company Eden Arb or under another name? If you need any personnel for cutting/climbing i'm available for work as and when.

Where's the job and what's involved.

Hi guys, I'm a cutter/climber looking for work in SW Scotland, Cumbria or elsewhere. Over 8 years experience with cs30,31,32,36,38,39,40 & chipper ticket Also hold UA1,UA2.1.2.3. 3years+ on railway tree management all over UK and 2years+ on Utility Arb. Other time spent in the domestic/private sector. Can work in other areas as long as costs are covered. Cheers.

Was working on a wee job last summer where I was earning up to £200 per day, would of been more if i didnt stop at 2pm each day to go to pub!. Its on again this summer, its only for a couple of months though. If I manage to stay away from the pub hopefully it will be about £250 per day.

You want to try climbing in them or cutting them down on a nightshift in the summer when its raining them little bastard greenfly hide on the under side of the leaves and not just a few!. Swarms of the shits stick to you and get in your earmuffs under your helmet under your clothes and in your mouth! Ever since then i hate Sycamore.
