  3. We briefly had sleet and hail this aft but no snow. Did look and feel like it could have started though.
  4. on a clean and empty can, I've managed to repair a hole by melting some plastic onto it and then using a heated up nail (or similar) to blend the edges together. It was the oil side though so don't know how well it would work on the petrol side. EDIT: too slow
  5. That's what I would try too - the old ones were much better. It's just not bothered me enough to bother swapping
  6. Think it's a case of matching the crane to the tractor/ballsating to suit. My old county was pretty stable, only picked a back wheel up a couple of times, first was within a few hours of it arriving (definitely operator error) second time was just oushing my luck a bit. Worst thing I found was forwarding out pointing up hill - didn't take a lot to lift a front wheel at all. First time it did that was a bit of an arse nipper
  7. A few of the estates round us are similar - They think they are making money because they often view the wood as being free because the work has usually been paid for by the shoot department. I used to be able to buy a heaped hilux load of split hardwood off the estate for £25 and it would be dry enough to go straight out. I'd head up to the farm, chuck enough off to make it level and then go and deliver having doubled my money (the going rate for a load that size was only £50 at the time before anyone starts ) It was quite amusing that once the Estate factor got his hands on the woods department, the £25 load quickly went to just short of £50 and then to nearly £70 the year after
  8. The silver side's all do have the bulb, and I completely agree that a primer bubble has no place on a pro saw. I do, however, know of a guy with a 346 that managed to puncture the bubble and it still runs fine. I was quite surprised as I thought it would leak, but it doesn't
  9. You didn't happen to buy that ifor canopy from a guy near Malton did you - I sold one t oa guy with a hicap the same colour that was fitted with a phaser and I'm sure he was called Andy too

  13. I've seen some dogs on site that were proper liabilities. My thoughts are that no dog should be outside of a vehicle while work is going on - dinner times and break times are fair enough though but no fun for the dog.
  14. I have a feeling that the current stuff may be via Kramp. It's not bad oil, but everything just keeps creeping up in price. I can remember when the oregon stuff jumped from £26 to £39 overnight

Our local Husky dealer's prices always used to be great on the Oregon chain oil (£39 inc vat/25l of late) but recently he's not been gettign oregon and the new stuff is working out a fair bit dearer at £35 /20l Might not sound a huge jump but seem to be getting through a fair bit at the mo, think the last drum was my 8th this year. Does anyone have a supplier who can get it down below £1.75/l delivered? We'd even consider 205l at a time if we had to.
  16. Course he should stay, if anyone actually thought he was being serious for a minute then they clearly need to get a grip. Didn't actually see anything any different to normal yesterday round us so guessing strike didn't really do a lot.
  17. would you be looking just for Arb or would Forestry be of interest too? Is York too far to travel?
  18. Reckon you'll be surprised at what it will pull - great little winches. We've been using one recently on some fairly rough pines and it's been surprising what it will do for the size of it. Dead easy to work on too, we did the clutch pads a few months ago and if it hadn't been for one of the new ones being mis shaped it would have been a few minutes from start to finish.
  19. It was that plastic strapping that uses some sort of buckle rather than a crimp - I think it can be re-tensioned too. We found that you had to be careful not to over tighten it as it did snap a couple fo times. Could have been operator error or maybe just cheap strapping/clips or both
  20. Got to use the one Riko sell at the APF last year as we had one on the stand. Seemed a well built thing but I found the whole process a bit of a faff. You'd get the bands on and think they were tight then tip it out and it would end up in a bit of a heap. Sure it get's better with practice but it's not a system I could be bothered persevering with
  21. Agree about the axle lockers - would have been a good move. Crazy isn't it with the 90's - I've towed near 3500kg with mine a few times but it certainly doesn't handle it like a 110 or 130 does, however you load the trailer.
  22. 300 tdi - usually every 6000 miles or so, sometimes a bit longer but not by much
  23. Caledonian do the Kranman ones, they look pretty smart. Think you can get the vahva jussi traielrs from a couple of other suppliers too - know Jonathan Latham was advertising them on ebay again recently
  24. I'm liking my current defender, got 275,000 miles on and still going strong. Would agree with the others - buy a cheap, knackred one and it's bound to break down a fair bit. Either spend more and buy a sound one or go cheap and expect to spend a bit replacing bits as and when. IME using genuine LR parts for the important bits is money well spent, a few of the pattern part manufacturers quality is dubious at best.
