  1. Bolting one of these onto the bed would make it superior to a Hilux, and cost less! Vanair ViperGen Fuel Injected Rotary Screw Air Compressor with Generator - 100 PSI - 050719 Ugly as can be, but so what? Some snug snow chains up front, and four wheel drive becomes somewhat extraneous, even in the mud. A peasant's unimog! Jomoco

Cheers Bro. The substance of your vid I couldn't agree with more, standing up n usin leg muscle, an upright posture keeping things properly aligned etc. But YouTube stars such as yourself, promoting wonderful new innovations that require great attention to detail to avoid mishaps or misunderstandings on the viewer's part? Are wise to follow Jepson's example IMO. Put the inherent dangers of a new system's usage up front n center stage, high lighted in red ink. Have pity on the greenies of humble educations n backgrounds. Live long n prosper Reg. Jomoco
  5. Nice rig Timon! Tow hitch on the front makes serpentine driveways easily doable IME.

But it's not the educated climbers either myself or any companies/industry associations are concerned about mate. It's the YouTube copycat dumb guys who don't know shite bout mechanical advantage applying directly to SRT configurations. You wanna know why some folks are leary of anyone sayin SRT's superior in all situations except crane work? Because it ain't true, not even close. Knowing the limitations of both systems is vital to any climber's well being. Jomoco

I keep thinking of beetle dead allepo pines with bowed main leaders n decurrent wood structure. Brittle stuff that ain't gonna bend far before breakin? How's a base tied SRT system not inferior when dealing with certain brittle species? Jomoco

So you're saying I can't redirect my DDRT tie in point system using loops and two revolver biner's eh? Oh but I can, three times if I want to. Been doin it for decades mate! Jomoco

Anyone claiming I've derailed this thread off topic's ignoring the fact that Reg is more or less scolding commercial manufacturers and industry associations for impeding wholesale adoption of SRT systems, without even mentioning it's frailties n drawbacks. A rather lopsided approach to promoting SRT from an objective point of view. Reg'll forgive me someday I'm sure! Jomoco

This Jepson bloke, gets straight to the heart SRT's frailties, right off the bat, straight up. http://allabouttrees.com/wp-content/uploads/guides/climber/Single_Rope_Technique_SRT.pdf Jomoco

Don't think for a second I didn't watch brother Reg's vid with an eagle eye mates! I kept waiting, and waiting for a mention of doubled forces being exerted on the upper redirect of a base tied SRT system. Not a whisper. The issue I'm on about may be the very crux of so many old schoolers' reticence in allowing SRT's usage on their turf? Mechanical advantage applies whether you're aware of it or not. Jomoco

Anyone promoting replacing one climbing system with a new system, has an obligation to clearly point out the new system's limits and dangers, period, IMO. Yes SRT's great, fantastic, revolutionary! But it has inherent limits n dangers as well. Listing all the numerous advantages of SRT without any mention of it's drawbacks whatsoever's rather dangerous and unprofessional IMO. Jomoco

You've rather inadvertently put your finger on my beef with SRT promotions! The false notion that a base tied SRT system's upper redirect point requires no more structural strength than a DDRT TIP does! I thought we were being honest here mates! Yu know? Jomoco

    DdRT Injuries

So you SRT pro's are saying a base tied SRT set up doesn't double the forces on the upper redirect? Or that doubling those forces is no biggie and merits no mention to climbers interested in copying your YouTube SRT exploits? Jomoco

SRT's fine, SRT's great, no doubt about it! It's just that you experienced blokes promoting it's use to youngsters have been a tad too light handed about also pointing out SRT's inherent limits n dangers, to make real sure no newbies hurt themselves applying doubled forces to a TIP suitable for a DDRT TIP, but not a base tied SRT TIP. Kinda like Murphy's law guys, wipes out lots of folks who ain't as smart n capable as you. Jomoco
  20. Makes me think that a chain brake activated by releasing the trigger? Might make more happy endings like your's possible? This is the 21st century you know.. I've heard tales of rear handled saws with trigger brakes, but never a top handled gas powered trimsaw, the electrics are superior in that sense. But that's no valid excuse for keepin the gas powered trimsaws in the stone age dang it. Jomoco

Hah! Famous last words! Dependent on species characteristics my good man. I may be a dinosaur DDRT dope, but a living one, a relatively intact one enjoying semi-retirement, because I know the limits of applying lateral loads to skinny upright branches of certain brittle tree species, that can't handle it, whereas other species like oaks will. Surely yo realize a base tie SRT system doubles the forces on the TIP, right? Jomoco

  25. Love the handsaw release cuts mate! Very professionally accomplished takedown. Nice clean methodology bringing home the bacon. Fair size tree too. Jomoco
