  1. Heres my cbr600fx. Nearly was the owner of a vtr firestorm but got outbid
  2. I use Meindl Tree Climber boots. They're really light and don't feel bulky like many other chainsaw boots, feels like I'm wearing trainers.
  3. Barney

    todays job

I love jobs when you can get the truck right back to the tree. Are you leaving it as a pollard?
  4. I've tried pulleys but found I kept having to stop to pull the slack through, is this normal? With a prussik and thrusting you get a nice rythm going.
  5. I like to keep it very simple, one end of my rope with a prussik, a steel strop a chainsaw and sometimes a silky. Very rarely use a cambium saver.
  6. Yea climbed it, it was climbable just didn't feel very safe. I was able stand where it was previously topped and smash it out in big pieces. As for the risk assessment I just sign it and get on with whatever job the team leader wants me to do.
  7. Oh dear, I topped a large lombardy yesterday which had previously been topped about 10 years ago. There was alot of decay right at the top, a few snapped branches, it felt unsafe. I agree this is bad practise and either Lombardy's should be left alone or felled
  8. Good work. We did a job in an urban environment the other day, spec was to leave the stumps at 2m high for a chainsaw carver to come and do his work, I guess thats another good way to keep it ecological.
  9. I heard Bartletts in Pill are a bit shorted staffed, whether thats just a rumor or not I don't know, might be worth a phone call though.
  10. Don't worry about it mate, your in a mog everyone will be getting out your way. Sounds like a good idea to me, you can then tow a trailer and take a chipper to site.
  11. Just found the Brit tipp website, looks good and light weight.
  12. I can see how playload won't be much more than that with a 3.5t truck. I've no intention of getting a tip master body, just thinking into the future when (if) I ever have my own business (dreaming)
  13. Cheers guys these figures are about what I expected. Steve - Is it the tool box that makes it heavy giving it only 500kg playload?
  14. Yea I knew it would be expensive but I'm doing some research so any rough figures would be great.
  15. How much do you think the company would quote to build this? http://www.tipmaster.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26&Itemid=33
  16. Jensen A530 '07 When changing the blades we have to use a wedge to stop the fly wheel turning so maybe a pin similar to what the vemeers use would help lock it in place. One of the grease nipples on the feed roller bearings is in a really awkward position. Also ground clearance is an issue with the tail lights only a couple of inches off the ground. These really are very minor issues though.
  17. Agree with you on the american chip truck look. If I had my own business I would have have snatched that lorry up, love it.
  18. Great job mate, where was that too?
  19. MasterBlaster, I love how you have so much space over there, great access, BIG trees, beautiful weather... I just spent a day dragging brash through a terrace house on a busy street with no parking have you got any jobs going?
  20. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the same misterTee. Ah well I enjoy my work, got a 10 minute cycle to the yard so can't complain about the money theres more important things, lifes good
  21. I can't seem to find a company that will pay a climber round this area (Bristol) much more than 70pound a day and I've worked for a few firms and know alot of tree boys in the area. I think its time to relocate
  22. Hi alex, how are you? Sam here from Jim's company, truck looks nice with the sign writing finished!
