  1. Seriously though nice splitter , looks a really chunky solid bit of kit
  2. What's the score re planning with them Tom, are they classed as mobile, going to have to get one for about two years I reckon
  3. If that's you days splitting, your sacked. With a nice shiny splitter like that I would expect three times that amount in one day
  4. This is what I am hoping I can get permission for on my land at the side of the yard, fuelled by arb waste and totally off grid, should be interesting living off grid.
  5. I,ve got a barn full of logs and haven't sold any yet, I wait until the new year before I start selling then the customers have got most of the whining off their chests and learnt a few lessons on buying cheap logs
  6. Don't even need to spend £60 just cut the shaft down all you need is a hacksaw. Using the splitter like that will kill you, it will grab, spin and wrap you round it like a lump of rag. It is an absolute death trap used like that
  7. Tesco flask as in a post above, work a treat
  8. Whilst I agree in principle with such organisations, as a mainly domestic based business, it wouldn't matter if I had royal appointment, customers are mainly price oriented when choosing a contractor. Whilst I would like to be a member of an organisation, I feel that the more responsible tree workers have enough hoops to jump through to run their business,s and find it difficult to find the time to enhance their business further. You can only do so much before you lose your competitive edge, again....this boils down to the level playing field scenario Very sad but true
  9. In a few hundred years time there will be only one human race, we will all be the same colour as has been suggested, with the advent of universal travel, this will happen very fast in ecological terms. Any species, whatever damage it does should be afforded the right of a humane death. I for one hate seeing things suffer, if it has to be despatch, i take the attitude that if that animal were me, I would not want to suffer a slow death
  10. I looked into this years ago and was advised that if you run pipework through the pile, you are removing the heat which will make the microbe action less efficient, unless you can have a slow constantly renewing process. I would imagine the only way to extract heat efficiently without affecting the microbes would be to have it enclosed and extract the heat given off by the pile from above it ??
  11. I would like the option of rigid or articulating, on bumpy muddy ground, all four wheels need to be in contact. I have never found a problem with it, many a time when I have felt the machine lift a wheel or show signs of becoming unstable I have gone to lock off the articulation which has sent it a bit further and made it worse Good ways to make a machine more stable or for added peace of mind is to add wheel weights or fill with water, I noticed in the vid the machines were demo'ing carry no load
  12. 5hp is nowhere near enough, it will stall constantly or be painfully slow. All engines will run a 3000psi pump, but it's the volume of the pump that is the cruical thing. The lower the volume the less the HP needed, try putting a higher volume pump on a low HP engine and it will stall Measure you cylinder or go on logsplitter websites and look at the spec of the machines they sell, in the spec it should give you the tonnage and volume of the pump and some even give the cycle times how long it takes for the ram to do a full cycle in and out You should be able to obtain all your info from that
  13. Good point Richard, I find it bizarre that they have apparently done away with the oscillating joint, I never have it locked off and it would be the deciding factor when I come to renew mine, without oscillation, I won't buy
  14. Ill try it and use river sand, it drains well
  15. I've got the "lite" and it's very difficult seeing the laser in day light outside
  16. In an ideal world every species could learn to limit their numbers and we could all live in harmony, but we as humans are supposedly the most intelligent beings and we cant limit our numbers, we know we are damaging the planet yet we still carry on regardless. We all use energy needlessly, we over eat, pump co2 into the atmosphere, kill each other rob each other blah blah blah If humans can't stop damaging the planet and over breeding we can't expect less intelligent beings to do the same
  17. Mines a csf multione which is equivalent to the 635 I think, the biggest one, I think it's the same as the one with the grab in the photo above, that grab it has on is the exact one I have and they are very handy too, will scoop up brash and pick up big lumps of timber Edit, mines a bit bigger than the 635, it's 50hp! Oh and the excavator will make an awful muddy mess, but if your on rough ground that wouldn't matter??
  18. I wouldn't recommend side slopes, but they perform well going straight up and down a slope, I have carried stems weighing as much as the machine up near 45 degree slopes Filling the tyres with water helps a huge amount with stability, but don't forget to also add anti freeze
  19. Any species can become a pest. Magpies are also heavily controlled
  20. Depends on numbers. Humans are at pest proportions, we should have a cull
  21. All fenced off Stumpy, I,ve watched the little sods, they like sit there chewing away knowing you are watching them, like.......taking the mick. They also know what range my gun is zeroed at as they never come any closer, unless of course I don't have my gun with me.....they also have X-ray vision....because they can see through the landrover outer skin. I,ve tried it......you go down with no gun behind the seats, they come near, you go down with a gun behind the seats, they don't come anywhere near......they are some strange alien being with super powers that has been sent from another planet to drive us insane.
  22. Squirrels are decimating my trees, they have so far ruined about 100 young trees on my land and I noticed the other day that they are causing massive damage to large mature Beech on the estate that I shoot on. They have stripped the bark off the tops of the branches on nearly the entire crown of a huge number of them, an unbelievable amount of damage. They also take "all" my hazel crop before they are ready, they don't actually take them, they just chew a hole in the shell and drop them to the floor where they just go to waste ? Then there's the nicking eggs and chicks This is damage on my trees, I'll try and get some photos of the beech trees but I,ll need my telephoto lense. We despatch around 2000 per year if we didn't the damage would be horrendous
  23. One day I will get to park my car in it
