  1. Very nice, Pershore down by the river. Sort those Willows out while your there..lol
  2. Create a group for yourself called ‘Bills Excellent Tree Works’ or something of that effect. Start taking pictures and videos and post them on the group. Invite friends and family to join at first, then perhaps new customers. Word will begin to spread and you might get a few jobs out of if. Very little effort, and potentially some gain! (providing the work is of a high standard)
  3. You'll get plenty from Bebo as well (so I hear), might get a little tree work too! :laugh1:
  4. Haha, thats funny Alasdair - your doing a 180 ! Come-on admit it - You use it! (nothing to be ashamed of)
  5. Yeh I think it is Steve, wouldn't catch me on there - Too old and too ugly lol.
  6. That was a fair size cavity on a large tree which what looked like an open crown to be fair. No excuses for their working methods though – unforgivable. I don’t agree to that poor tree being made an example of just for public entertainment. The amount of crown raising that took place would render it unstable now anyway. Least it looks like it was done during the summer – Better chance of compartmentalising.
  7. .....depends if you have morals or not! Yeh baby, bring it on!
  8. Those poor trees, being pruned during the winter months (just so Arbs can feed their families and put coal on the fire). Of course its not just depletion of stored energy and the possibility of pushing a tree from stress to strain…. …..think of all those fungal pathogens floating around the atmosphere, just waiting to find a fresh, moist, and succulent pruning wound – Yummy!
  9. I've been using Facebook for a while now (as some of you may know!). I've got a 'Friends-of' page for the tree team and this has worked well, not so much in getting extra work (I'm L/A) but in informing my employers what we actual do! You do need to keep it up to date though because if you don’t, people will lose interest. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/group.php?gid=12054243295 If I did do a lot of private work and my customers were particularly happy with what I’ve done, I'd ask them to join my 'Friends' group. I'm sure you'd get plenty of work that way!
  10. I'm treating myself....buying a Garmin 705 Sat-Nav for the push bike - Cant wait!
  11. Here is the latest on the camping issue at the AA Trade Show, not good news I'm afraid.... Good afternoon to you John My apologies for the delay in responding, a combination of me taking leave and my Internet system not working properly........ I am sorry to advise that the Bathurst Estate has only authorised camping for those attending as exhibitors at the 11 Arborists’ Trade Fair. Best wishes Zoe Zoë Paskins Administration and Events Arboricultural Association
  12. Hello mate, Your right, it is a bad time to do it. Don’t prune at high times of stress such as bud break and leaf fall. The tree is already using large amounts of energy and wouldn’t welcome using even more energy to compartmentalise the fresh wounds. Trees store energy within their branches/stems, removing this stored energy (particularly if the tree is under stress) could cause the tree to pass into strain, a condition of which it will not recover. I’d wait till late spring/summer, the tree will then be in a period of high photosynthetic production and will be able to cope much better with a crown reduction.
  13. I wouldn’t go for one of those yet because you cant use it on the ground. 026 gets my vote!
  14. I'll write you an answer....for a fee
  15. Daldinia concentrica, the coal fungus, carbon balls, cramp balls, or King Alfred's cakes, to name but a few..
  16. I’ve noticed some of the Groups have been a little quiet in recent months (inc. this one). It seems to have coincided with the re-structuring of the web-site. What are your views in Groups? - Easy to navigate round ? Are they inviting? It would be interesting to hear from other users….. Still, it’s a new year; spring is well on the way and there might be some new Midland members out there….?
  17. Nice boat Mick! I used to sail Toppers and lasers when I was younger - Great fun!
  18. Got the new phone on Friday..... After many phone calls and quite a few e-mails of complaint Vodafone sorted a deal out…. Free upgrade (Originally they wanted £100) 12 month contract (originally they wanted an extra £80) Unlimited Arbtalk and e-mail for £34 per month. I still think its expensive – Am I getting a tight arse in my senior years??
  19. There is a huge differance between college work and real work in the real world. Perhaps that's what they meant.
  20. Glad he’s going to be ‘fine’! I pity the instructor/teacher who was on duty that day – One hell of a responsibility!
  21. What!!?? I'm 39 I'll have you know....years left in me yet (and still have a full head of hair!)
  22. Tout is probably too stronger a word for it. I have to be seen to be making a reasonable income, so if it comes my way I’ll have it!
  23. Nice to see the old boys up in them trees lol.
  24. Luckily I built up a good relationship with the customer in the past and this time I got the order number before I put the invoice in. I’ll charge 3 days, they’re still getting a good price at that – I’ll keep my eyes open next time I price a job up!
