  1. It'll be nice to see the state of the crown in the spring mate. I'd have a really good dig around the leaf-litter at the base. Yes, the boot-lace is honey fungus (providing you tied yours up that morning)
  2. Nice to see the best practice of shoving the brash through with the aid of a shovel!
  3. Cheers for the replies guys! So far I’ve resisted temptation – it does have my name on it though (and with only 27K on the clock!!) I’m still going through the divorce and might wait till its finalised (might have a bit of cash in the sky-rocket by then)
  4. I’ve got the opportunity to part-ex my Discovery for something a little quicker – A 2006 Subaru Imprexa WRX. It’s a one owner car with 26K on the clock. I’ve always hankered after something a little sporty but have no experience with Subarus – If anyone has any comments I’d love to hear ‘em!
  5. Totally natural janey, just a long exposure :-)
  6. Its heartening to hear your going through the investigate process after a near-miss, many people would brush it to one side, carry on and forget it - so WELL Done! As you know I bought mine a fair few years ago now, I bought them for highway work when we were doing a lot of street pollards with the MEWP, for this work they were INVALUABLE! Things have moved on with the tree team since then. I have two young very capable climbers who prefer to climb if given the option, however the helmets still have their place in tree work. It is just So nice to have that direct line of communication between climber/ground person, no shouting, just a calm, precise two-way conversation on the work-site. Invaluable bit of kit in my opinion.
  7. Hiya Mark, It’s a play at HDR. Three exposures were taken, one under-exposed, one bang-on and one over exposed, adjustments made to lightness, saturation etc and then all three images combined to give the drug-induced effect you see before you.
  8. This is the monitoring equipment for the saws - Each member of staff had been issued with a credit-type card which you swipe on the base unit at the start of the day. A HAV monitoring unit is the assigned to that member of staff who would then attach it on to individual saws throughout the day.
  9. Sounds interesting Paul, thanks for posting
  10. Just a few pictures from today’s HAV testing. The test is carried out by attaching sensors on the front and rear handle of the saws, two readings are taken whilst cutting takes place; a calculation is then made to give the optimum daily usage.
  11. Tipping Site for Chippings - Midlands Area If any Midland Arbs need a place to off-load their chippings and your round the Worcester area then I’ve found a place – Apex Motocross is quite literally on the side of Junction 6 off the M5 motorway. At Junction 6 off the M5 you will come to a roundabout - take the 1st exit if you are approaching from the M5 South or the 5th exit if you are approaching from the M5 North (they use the chippings for the track) Tel Lee Jones on 07989 098289 Lee wont give you anything for them but useful if your working in the area and need to off-load. You can watch the motox bikes while your there
  12. ....which can be found here - NPTC | Assignment Schedules
  13. Yes readings are taken live, we’ll be carrying out the tests in our wood-yard. I’ve debated whether to replace A/V rubbers, sprockets and chains for the test but decided against it as I want the tests to reflect ‘real world’ conditions. I’ve had the saws tested before and one thing I have noticed is the difference between manufactures vibration levels and the actual vibration levels as tested on site. We have a brand new 441 ready to test so this will be particularly interesting..
  14. To be honest mate we share the work out but the jobs which put us over were defo’ the logging-up jobs on the ground. I’ve just changed our 044 for a 441 as the trigger time for that saw was diabolical, we also have a new 066 to help bring levels down...
  15. Electronic HAV Chainsaw monitoring. We’re about to undergo a three month trial regarding Hand Arm Vibration here at Worcester City Council. The trial will consist of the testing of all saws and associated equipment for vibration levels, the fitting of electronic sensors to each saw and then the issue of swipe cards to members of the team which will be read by a base station. Usage and vibration levels will then be recorded on a daily, weekly and monthly basis and reports and comparisons made. We’ve been recording our approximate usage and vibration levels for some time and have consistently gone over the recommended HAV limit, so a proper electronic survey should provide interesting! Is this of any interest to people? If it is I’ll publish details of the tests and results as they come in. John.
  16. Arbtalkers – Register on the Daily Mail web-site and put these points across, a good opportunity (although a tragic one) to educate the public.
  17. Hiya Mark, It was at a recent VSCC (Vintage Sports Car Club) trials meeting. I’m one of a pack of photographers who attend and when we get bored we generally end-up snapping away at each other. I pulled this one off Facebook and did a little selective colour work. Glad you like it buddy!
  18. "Chainsaw wielding pyjama man attacks tree in dead of night" Yesterdays job….. Chainsaw wielding pyjama man attacks tree in dead of night (From Worcester News) The comments below the article make an interesting insight into what the public think of the police and street trees....
  19. Got called out by Highways to this today, some guy decided to put his chainsaw through the tree at 2.30am this morning. Police were called and he was apparently arrested on site. Been trying to think of a motive to this mindless act of vandalism… …..then I noticed the satellite dishes directly in line to the tree. County Highways are looking to prosecute.
