  1. Have you seen the pic of what happened to a climber when he fell on some fencing??
  2. Collins Field Guide states – ‘Crown – Broadly conic, seldom as narrow as L.decidua, often with very long, low branches sweeping out and slightly up; upper branches also bend up somewhat towards the tips; branchlets do not hang. Stands look orange-brown in winter from a distance’. It was the low branches, sweeping out and slightly up that led me to believe its Larix kaempferi.
  3. Oh dear, I feel I've dug myself a hole! lol The reason I went for Kaempferi is that I have both varieties in the same park and the difference in form is a lot more obvious. (not saying your not wrong though Giles) I'll pop out and try and get some pics later...
  4. Progress is being made, permission granted (even looks like we’ll get permission for ‘stand alone BBQ’!). All we need to sort out is dates and days, i.e. Saturday or a Sunday. How soon would you like to meet? Before the AA show or after? I can probably get organised at fairly short notice…….just let me know.
  5. Larix yes - but which one??? (branches point upwards at the tips)
  6. Took this yesterday while looking for a suitable tree for the Midlands Picnic in the Park, so come on then – what is it??
  7. Hello mate - and welcome to the forum!

  8. You have a point, its an awkward one alright! The branches you see in the background are from the neighbouring trees. The tree that was worked on was entirely crown reduced by approx 90%. They were poor stock and should have been thinned out years ago, and what’s worse - I’ve got to drive past it every morning!
  9. Well done that man! Remember, 1000 posts = 30 CEU'S
  10. Guys, guys, there was no photo-shop involved. Dean is the new Photo-king! I can understand why they spec’d that job, but personally I don’t think the hazard has been eliminated, yes its been reduced with the reduction of the lever-arm and sail area but that tree will put a lot of re-growth, very quickly and also will keep laying down annual layers. I’d have felled it.
  11. Close - think more of a large water feature.
  12. Errrrr.....I should like to point out that I wasn't responsible for the works carried out (this time)
  13. Nice to meet you Yorkshire pud' - you dont look bad at all! Not sure about that hairy chap to your left though - Best of luck fot the future mate - anytime you want to talk - you know where we all are.
  14. Here you go chaps........ ............Mmmmmm, nice!
  15. All that and you can't tell a range rover from a Discovery..........tut tut, David.
  16. Right, just a little fun….This tree is local to me, have a look at the pics, note the potential targets (if any) and give your management recommendations….. ….I’ll tell you what happened to it later this evening.
  17. Just a few pictures of the proposed location of the get-to-gether at Gheluvelt Park, Worcester. Here’s a little history….. The park was opened in 1922 as a permanent memorial to the local soldiers who lost their lives at the Battle of Gheluvelt in the First World War. The 1914 battle, on the outskirts of the Belgium town of Ypres, has been described as the day the 2nd Worcesters saved the British Empire. Fewer than 400 men of the 2nd Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment drove back more than 1,000 German troops intent on breaking the British line and advancing to the channel ports. Defeat at Gheluvelt may well have won the war for the Germans. Such was the importance of the battle. Anyway, the Oak is prob the best climbing tree....see what you think.
  18. Either spores from a Ganoderma or he’s spilt his drinking chocolate, Bundle my boy.
  19. Just got back from the pub……Wow! What a thread! Excellent pictures, I’m really jealous of a job like that…Nice to see a MEWP (even if it was to blow the cob-webs off lol)
  20. Good-luck Tommer my friend! Let me know how it goes....Might even try and get some help myself – to me that’s the biggest stem, taking that step means admitting there is a problem and for me I’ve been in denial for far too long. I feel for you buddy.
  21. It's not mine, well will be one day - and I have been here for three stinking years now.......
