  1. Ooh sounds fun. Good luck
  2. Say Ted mentioned it.
  3. Try Sean at greenheart tree care in Exeter. Google his number.
  4. Hello, I have a chainsaw mill and have today just done my first mill of some standing dead cherry I took down about 6 months ago. I was expecting a rough ish finish but I have definate bar marks in the planks, mainly towards the last 1/3 of the plank. I am using a stihl 066 with new 36" bar and chipper chain. Would a ripper chain stop this or is it just more practice on my behalf? I have some chunky oak to do and some dead elm but wanted to ask this before I go any further. Ed This To this
  5. Thanks woodman, I'm in Devon so a bit of a trek for either of us really. Shame as I reckon it has some good value as it's 15' by 5'2" for the big one and 12' for the smaller lump.
  6. Well she is down. I have two nice pieces I'm going to chainsaw mill but the butt came down in two pieces. One 3.5 ton And the other at 5.4 ton The big bits are off for carving as no one would mill it for us.
  7. Wow nice one mate
  8. I'm in Devon, the tree is in Exeter. Starting take down on Wednesday. Will plead with the guy to let me plank some of it at least.
  9. Oh yeah LAPD, great and lime green! Wow

    Mimosa?

Hi all I haven't done any milling yet but have a chainsaw mill and am taking a dead mimosa of a fair size down in 2 weeks and wondered if it was worth milling?
  14. Did you find somewhere to do your cs32? I have a training day booked on the 5th April here in Newton abbot you could join me on and then sort an assessment out nearer the time.
  15. Those peices look great. I'm new to milling etc, can you run me through making one of those seats? Is there a rule of thumb with regards to lengths of lower piece to alter back rest angle?
  16. I'm in the same boat as you but I plan on buying one and just having a go trial and error hopefully without too many errors. I'm in Devon otherwise I would offer our two heads better than one but a bit far to go.
  17. Got it, obvious now you say. Thanks
  18. Forgive me but what is meant by end grain?
  19. I have a 300 landy now and would like better mpg and more comfort etc. I had a puma 130 double cab but sold it. I had a td5 disco so don't want a td5 defender. It's a toss up whether I spend money on the 300 or get a newer puma. Can get a new chassis cab fo 19k plus vat but don't want to spend that much really.
  20. Hello, I'm weighing up my options on work trucks. I'm after a puma 130 single cab but I don't want a new one. Does anyone know where to buy one or when utility companies renew theirs? Ed
  21. It's the huge base on the chipper that's the problem as the arms are right up and the shoot is up very close to the back of the chip box. I have run the chipper with the base off before to gain clearance to a site and sat it down on a log when in operation. I will make up a bracket with sliding legs so I don't bottom out anymore.
  22. Yes the base unbolts but sits too low on the deck then. Adjustable legs sound a good option. Thanks for feed back chaps.
  23. Thanks mate i think you would be right, trouble is i cant lift the chipper any higher. Managed to winch her out this arvo and once the front wheels were out the chipper cleared and she drove out bald tyres and all! The base on the chipper is very deep. i will call TP to see if they do a different base with liftable legs.
  24. Oh yeah good shout, top place for bits
  25. 14.5 x 20 or there abouts
