Continued training is there mate. I agree pretty much with what you say apart from the validity of the quals you did in 2000. You are supposed to do refresher training or up training every 5 years. AfAIK they are still valid but if you have an accident or are going for some larger contracts evidence of refresher training is required.

I am guessing it was pretty dirty and you washed it above 30C? higher temps turn the jacket into a teabag. The high temp melts the waterproof coating within the fibre. my first jacket was covered in crap one day and I hosed it down in the shower after work. Leaked like mad after that. the second jacket I wash on cold and it still it waterproof after 4 years.

No trees up there though mate in Svalbard. I only saw one tree and it was an Xmas tree by the bins.

I have a couple. Swazi Korona from NZ. Also a cut and climb. i like the Swazi for the colder weather and heavy rain as it has a skirt and is awesome in the snow. Also don’t let the price fool you. If you order from NZ site they drop the VAT and the price drops by a significant amount. Add delivery and I paid a shade over 190 gbp and it arrived in a week.

I think a big part of the problem is people can’t read correctly. Wisewood ( nice bears) started this thread asking why there had been a demise in ‘Chainsaw Carving forum’. Didn’t take long for people to get the wrong idea and start moaning about Facebook, brexit and then the usual political bollocks.

Ask your dad. I would guess he would advise against it. Ruined body, crap money, kit getting knocked all the time, everyone undercutting the opposition and as a result bringing the industry down. There can be good money to be earned but IME it will take you around 7-10 years to get to that level... no matter how quick you can learn. By that point you will be pushing 40 and the general aches and pains will start to kick in, as will the younger boys doing the job cheaper. Again not trying to put you off, just being a realist. The arb industry is in a lot better position in other countries, but the fact is it can be bloody hard work and will definitely test your mettle when it is blowing a gale and you are trying not to get blown off the tree. Give it a go... what have you got to lose? Try and find some work part time or volunteer with a local firm. Has your old man got any contacts you could get in touch with? Whats the worst that can happen, if it isn't for you then go back to what you were doing. Good luck.

ETW isn’t worth that much in the UK. Seems to be a lot more recognised in Eurozone and Scandiwegia. When I first started to work in Norway before I moved here, I laughed when I was asked if I had ETW.

Forgive me as I can’t remember the model. It is a Jotul. There is soap stone on top and in the wall about 5 foot tall a piece that has been whitewashed. I could be wrong about the wall, it could be just heat proofing or similar. Edit: I don't normally leave logs like that unattended. Just before someone points out it is a fire hazard.

Supposedly, they have visibility of this thread and are taking note... where is their response then? The only time I have had direct contact with the HSE was at an accident scene. I was asked to make the tree safe after the casualty had been airlifted to hospital. 3 guys in suits and about 4 police officers had secured the site and the 3 HSE experts were asking me some of the simplest questions regarding tree work. I responded that that they were supposed to be the experts... I ended up having to write a risk assessment and MS for climbing a ladder, installing a anchor point and finishing a cut. Anyway, I digress. I would love to see an actual response, (for or against the new ruling) but I very much doubt it.

A climbing harness, side strop and a nicely tuned 150t or equivalent. Just get in there, sheer bloody determination is key.

So is it DPF or Adblue and not both? If so, my Hilux has Adblue. That could explain why I have never experienced any DPF issues.

Great chipper the Schliesing. The turn table comes in very handy. We used to run one at the firm I used to come out contracting to, in Oslo.

How do you force the regen mate? i have a new Hilux and no problems to date. lots of hills and short journeys but a few motorway journey’s mixed in.
