  3. He is married with a new life in Cal I forn ia.
  4. Love the stuff myself. I made a load at the beginning of the year mainly for lunches at work or as a snack. Sliced and marinaded it all and took about 1.5 kg to a friend with the drying machine. Then vacuum packed it all and froze it. He said next time bring three times as much as he inly used 2 trays. So next time the full 5kg will be dried.
  5. No. A friend of mine shot it earlier this year over in Sweden. He also gave me a full boned out rear leg. That is approx 5 kg. I was meaning to make Jerky out of it but when he shot it and gave me the meat he was waiting the results of the Trichinosis testing to come back. He said it might take up to a week so I banged it in the deep freeze. The test came back the next day as good to go. So now I have to fully defrost the 5kg arse cheek and then refreeze it for 30-40 minutes. That way it can be cut uniformly and thinly before the marinade and then drying to make Jerky. Haven’t got round to it but really need to make space in the chest freezer as I have a full butchered lamb coming next Friday.
  6. Slow cooked Wild Boar in a tomato type sauce. Lots of spices for flavour and ginger and a couple chillis. We were going to pull it, but it was pretty nice in the larger lumps. 1.8kg or Wild Boar went into it. Served with roasted spuds, a few carrots chucked in for colour and Sour Cabbage. Enough left for another two meals.

  11. It’s not food. It is a toy with a small reward. you could do a favourite toy or just something else but the work is using his nose and the reward might be play, making a fuss or in Kira’s case a treat.
  12. Sounds a bit like boredom mate. do you leave him for longer period or does he got to work with you everyday? I do quite a few sniffing exercises with Kira. If she gets anxsty in the house I put some marmite or peanut butter in a king and hide it I. The kids underwear draw or some other not so obvious place. She tend to settle after 2 or 3 search and finds.
  13. I can see where you’re coming from but IMHO a lot of employers will have the box ticked so they think they good to go. The young / new climber will be put into positions where they may not have the experience or ability to complete a complex rigging job. Some employers seem to think that having a SE climber in for 5 days a week is ok as well. When in reality they should be paying for PPE, Pension, Holiday pay and ongoing career development. I stress not all employers but there are definitely many who think the above scenario is ok. Why would they think any different when it comes to jobs and the climbers competency? “They have got the ticket they must be good to go” I am all for pushing new climbers to expand their comfort zone, that’s how they progress and gain experience. But in an attempt to make the industry more professional (which is something you hear on the regular). How will pushing inexperienced a climber way beyond their limits and the subsequent accidents help the cause of pushing the industry forward?
  14. I have to disagree. Some of the muppets barely pass the CS39 or whatever it is called these days. Would you really want them swinging heavy lumps around d on a rope? Just let them get/ thy need experience with work positioning and comfortable, safe use of chainsaw in a tree. Then teach them rigging techniques. Accident happen when people are expected to do thing outside their ability. Also a large numbers of climbers think their ability is much higher than what they are able to actually achieve.

  17. Well in the past, you have form for doing the opposite to what has been suggested. Its all good though, some people prefer to learn from their own experiences. Others (me included) preferred to learn from others who have been there, done that and got the badge and T-shirt. Hence finding someone who could act as a mentor is a great idea. where about’s in the country are you based?
  18. Kram, no doubt you will ignore this post as well but some people are actually trying to to help you here. Do you not realise that to get you alone in a course for a week to pay for the assessor then they need the numbers to make it work? Nothing wrong with a good mentor. In the meantime why not check out the Art and Science of practical rigging or the Fundementals of general tree work. They might help you gain some knowledge. The kind of thing Alex is mentioning.
  19. And don’t use rock climbing rope.
  20. Took the words right from my keyboard. Kram, on a serious note. The course will teach you something but it is of course a paper exercise for the employers etc. You will get as much out of it as you can if you go in there open minded and don’t try and tell the instructor he is doing it wrong or you know a better way to do it. There are many ways to skin a cat as the saying goes. But if your on a cat skinning course then listen to what the instructor is trying to tell you.
