He placed the lumps down on the driveway. Took a couple of attempts and he nearly took out a gate pillar. Got there in the end. Sadly we had to ring the bloody thing up as the customer wanted to keep for firewood. Suppose at least we didn't have to handball it out.

Not a clue mate. The operator said he could do about 7 ton up close and 1.5 at full tit. I reckon maybe 2.5 - 3 ton. The tree was stone dead so obviously lighter.

We rigged the crown out with a Hiab. Plus got a bit of vid of the last pick. The tree was left at fence height hence the cutting above head.

Today's job was a short but stout dead Beech tree to remove. The tree had plenty of fruiting bodies around the base and had a lot of Ivy Growth in it. Managed to get done in 4 hours with the assistance of a Palfinger hiab. I did a twinned stemmed lawsons Cyprus aswell whilst we had the machine on site.

Sometimes it is not only the size/weight of the piece for the shape. An experienced climber will pick and choose the pieces to be lowered not only to be able to clear obstacles but to make it easier to receive by the guys on the deck. Sometimes I will rigg and number of pieces at the same time so when the head is broken down and lowered it takes up less space.

Have you considered craning it with the brash on? Would save in man hours and ultimately money in the form of wages. It really isn't that much bother, but of course that depends on your set-up and the site location for vehicles etc. A location would help for you stick query though. Good luck and looking forward to the pics.

I always find OP to be a bit sketchy until it wears in. New cord on a new rope is generally the worst combo. Do a couple of long fast descents with the cord tied correctly to bed it in a bit. Once it is worn a bit them it grips a lot more reliably. I tend to use Armor pruss or Beeline these days.

I use Beal rope cleaner. Put the rope in the thing in the kitchen with a glass door on the front and then turn on and explain to the missus it is meant to jump around like that on full spin...

I just tell them - "feel free to put it back together, all the bits are in the back of the truck... I just hope your bloody good at jigsaws!"

I found mine has had no problems oiling like described. After about a year old it stopped oiling and a few flushes of the tank seems to have dislodged whatever crud was in the tank/filter. Been working like a dream since then. Edit: is that Huw?

I think you'd be surprised at how much you can move in a wheels bin. Great for through the house jobs as they fit through most doors.

Personally I would have a chat with the guy and explain you are a contract climber and not a miracle worker. If he is an understanding guy he may listen but more often than not he will not want to hear your comments, he will just want the job done. Is he expecting you to bring the rigging kit? As for the rescue climber situation, it should be a minimum from his staff to be capable of an aerial rescue. Of course I haven't seen the tree but if it is as bad as you make out, I would probably have walked just because the guy sounds like he is taking the P.

Missed you mate. We were camping at the bottom of the field. John Shutler had a Hennessy Hammock tied off to a big oak tree and his pick. A couple of tents and a tranny conversion my mate slept in. Tom D turned up on the saturday night aswell and pitched up his Yurt.

I get at least 2 years outta Airstreams. I am now on my 3rd pair. Might be worth checking but the last I heard was that Meindl were offering a 2 years warranty on the boots. Take em back or at least talk to your supplier.
