  1. Bat don't "nest". They "roost" and have "nursery roost's" for rearing young. If you think there is a real chance the tree is being used by bats you need to get it checked by an expert. They will come at dusk and check for bats leaving the tree.
  2. I had a 395XP it was awfully I doubt I'll ever buy another husky. I'm old hat, I like old hat If its not broke, why fix it
  3. 460 is a cracking saw!!!!!!!!!!! Huskys are great..............................for softwoods
  4. A hole in the very end should be fine, its best to heat a thin steel rod and melt a hole, that way it won't fray.
  5. Anyone else bored now??????????????????????????????????
  6. Pretty much yes. They are the people the HSE consult when deciding on what the policy will be when it comes to recommended training, so the obviously suggest more training not less. I would be interested to know if there has been any serious analysis of accident statistics to see if those involved were well trained etc. As has been mentioned earlier by Mesterh, we generally only put our selves at risk, those you mention are putting others at more risk than themselves.
  7. He'd be wasting his time trying to get it sorted under warranty, I heard the guy he bought it off is well dodgy!!! I reckon it will blow up next week:001_rolleyes:
  8. CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are muppets in our industry, so we are all treated as muppets . Fortunately I work for myself, so there is not the same duty of care as there is with an employee, so I can get away with the refreshers (until a client insists on it) If I employed people using saws I'd get them refreshed, just to cover my ass, but I think its a money making scheme and wrong!!
  9. Tell them how pleased you are to be doing it and how excited your facebook friends are!!!
  10. :confused1:These two posts seem some what contradictory
  11. What if someone has never had any formal training at all. I only went and got assessed. If I've never been trained, I can't be "refreshed" Coming on here is great for leaning new things or getting advice. Trees are just the same today as they were 17+ years ago when I first started. Some equipment is better, which makes things safer, so I don't really see the need to spend money to get bits of paper. If people want to go and get some more training thats great.
  12. Absolutely!!! With luck we don't us our first aid skills from one year to the next, so never become experts in first aid, thus we need to be retrained. This is not the case when it come to doing our job, to suggest we need additional training after years of do the job is nothing short of insulting. Maybe if you have an accident there could be an argument for some training, but making it something we all have to do every 5 years is ridiculous!!
  13. No the rest of us just treat them with the contempt they deserve and ignore them. My tickets are 15 years old
  14. Thats a myth, IME, I've never been asked for tickets by insurance Co's, not when taking out the cover or when making a claim.
  15. Depends on your stove. Some of the modern clean burn stoves are built for use in smokeless zones, so are not designed for coal as its not a smokeless fuel. And dedicated wood burns should not be used with anything but wood. But old fashioned multi fuel stoves are fine with coal, as are open fires.
  16. The OP says no chainsaw use and I have never heard of chippers being used on climbing courses. The risk of a slip, swing or fall is a real one and should be given some real consideration.
  17. Is that you in the picture???
  18. It could be steel or iron in the wood.
  19. Be very careful, they are really clamping down on this, you could find that when it comes to the crunch you are not insured!!!
